Photo Challenge #40 ~ Up! {6-28-09}
This week we're going to work with perspective again, this time looking for things up, up and above you. At times I myself feel I'm to busy pointing the camera straight ahead or down at things that I miss a world of wonderful things going on above my head. (And that's a lot since I'm 5'2"!) LOL! So look up and around you, and find out what's going on above your head this week! And remember, this also plays very well with holding your camera vertical.
Photo Challenge Rules:
~ Have FUN with this! There are no right or wrong photos.
~ Take as many pics as you want, share the few you like best.
~ Please share only current photos, taken after the challenge was issued.
~ We CANNOT upload our photos to the SCS galleries. You may upload them as an attachment or host them from your blog or any online photo hosting site. Just provide the direct link to the photo in your post and also make sure that it is not from a password protected album.
~ Just a reminder that we are a family-friendly site if you are sending others off this site to view photos in an album hosted elsewhere.
~ Please jump in and join us in the photo challenges at anytime!
~ Again - HAVE FUN!
We took a walk downtown and here are a few "up" pics - the Wachovia Building and a statue of Sir Walter Raleigh.

Fun. I always think we miss so much walking around cities if we don't look up, so I really like your Wachovia Building picture.

We were just up in Toronto at the end of May and I was amazed by all the different types of buildings. I wish I had taken some photos of them.

These are taken at Disney in May. The first one is of me and my youngest actually looking "up" at the fire works, couldn't resist . She was so scared, they were right on top of us!
The second one is in the butterfly garden at EPCOT.
The third is a very dark, but pretty night shot of spaceship earth at EPCOT.

This morning I was out taking photos for the bridge challenge and I took this one.
It's not great but I thought the timber work on the underside of the roof of the bridge was pretty interesting. Hope you like it.
Connie
PS: I didn't see this new challenge until about 3:30 this afternoon. How about that!

I took these photos at sunset. Most of my photos are looking close to the ground, like flowers, I rarely look up so this was a great challenge.

Angie, I like how you captured Sir Walter. The Wachovia building looks really tall. Deanne, I love the photo of you and your daughter. Connie, I love the underside of your bridge. How neat that it fits this challenge too.

Here are some "up" pictures. The first one is (obviously) a tree. The second picture is the screen at the drive-in theatre. I thought it was pretty neat because the moon was right above it. Funny, we went to watch Up.

Last day of training we've had ongoing over the last few weeks, so I took my DSLR in with me today...I tried some *up* photos in the garden yesterday, but nothing worth posting.
Two different lampposts - old and modern, and looking up the stairs in work. There's an escalator to the mezzanine level, and then 161 stairs up to the the floor we have been doing our training on.

And more...our normal workplace is not nearly as photogenic, so I took the chance to take a good number of photos today. Got some good looking down ones too .
The plant growing from the chimney is opposite the bus stop where I get the bus home. You see a lot around town.

That is ironic that you went to see up. I like how your drive-in photo looks. I don't even know where a drive-in theatre is anywhere near me.

I found some more pictures. The first two are of the weathervane on our barn. The second I took as a big storm was rolling in. The last shot is of one of the propellers on the B-17 bomber Sentimental Journey when it was at our local airport.

So many cool photos! I've had a friend visiting me this past week. She had never been in Canada, so I took her touring around our area of Ontario. We got lots of shots, and I will just check and see if there are some good 'up' pics.

Here are a few.
Number 1......looking up at my friend in the arch at Templin gardens in my hometown. The second is of the sky light at the Boldt castle (officially on U.S. ground) on an island in the St. Lawrence river where we took the 1000 island boat cruise. The third is looking up at the leaves of a ginko tree that was planted in honour of a veteran who died in Iraq during the first world war. It is found at Eugenia Falls.

It always amazes me how much architecture varies round the world. That barn, we have nothing like that over here or that I've seen in the UK or France, but from movies I'd immediately think North America when I saw it. Same with MariLynn's steeple - it's so different to ours. And the Greek ones are very different again and very photogenic.
That dome is amazing, Ina, and I loved seeing the gingko tree. Just sometimes on the way to work I see a leaf or two from one on the ground, but although I've looked and looked, I still haven't found the tree they are coming from. They look so much better on the tree .

Sabrina, it is funny that when you saw the barn photo you thought North America. When I saw your little bridge. I thought, well that does look like Ireland!

Finally! I had some time to really 'play' with photos. DH and boys picked the tallest tree on our property to build the 'fort.' Worked until midnight, two days in a row!

Some more 'ups.' DH trimming climbing plant on the fireplace. The second one is awesome because of the fact that it is in COLOR! No kidding. These clouds came in fast and furious and the temp. dropped like a lead ball. It was mid day and just before this the sun was bright and sky was blue. I thought we might get a tornado so I snapped a few shots. You can almost 'feel' the cold air. The last is actually from a few days ago when the moon was full. I took the same shot with my dSLR and this one with my Canon Power shot. Since I don't have great lenses for the dslr, the one from the PS was much better.

Great challenge choice Angie, I had fun looking up but the weather has not been the greatest for photography although with the help of the photo program I think I salvaged some.
The school and church were moved from other locations to our township grounds and the flags fly over the veterans memorial area of the grounds.
Looks like the photo scale down for upload process has distored the lines on the buildings a bit, they are very even in real life.

I just happen to have a few "UP" pictures that have been taken recently.
First one was taken by my camera but by my hubby. I have to share it because of July 4th.
The next pictures I took outside of our house because i happen to look out the window, see a really wierd cloud and ran out to see the entire thing. This is what I ended up with.

Here is a photo of our city's Canada Day fireworks. This is taken from my back deck quite far from the site of the fireworks.
Happy Canada Day (yesterday)

I was out taking pics of our new dog, and heard the plane flying over. I liked how the setting sun was caught under the wings. And then I realized what a beautiful moon was coming.
thanks for looking,

Lisa - that is an awesome picture. Where or what building is that.
Great firework picture, Connie.
We saw fireworks last night and I used my firework setting for the first time. I like how the pictures turned out even if I didn't see the same image with the naked eye.

Thanks,

Can't believe I almost missed this challenge! (I was too stuck on the shoes.) Took this on the 30th in Yokohama. This is Landmark Tower, Japan's tallest building.
