CSSC71~ Out of context- 6/2
Welcome stamping friends!
Today we are thinking of creative uses for using text on our cards. Here are a few ideas to begin with:
*use sentiment stamps to create backgrounds
*use Crafty secrets dp with newsprint/ad type designs
*use vintage book pages to make embellishments
*use current newspaper/phone books etc and distress to give a vintage look then punch or use to embellish
*use CS set Journaling to add a script background on wings, fabric flowers, ribbon etc
Please feel free to take this challenge in any direction that you feel fits. Add CSSC71 to your keywords to your work in the gallery.
Here is my sample~ Glamour birthday
CSSC71 gallery
I can't wait to see your take on this challenge. Have a wonderful week!
Sincerely, Lucy

YIPPEE!! I did it right, AND mine is done! I did it last night, so I just have to take a pic today, if the sun ever comes out! I used Priscilla's MM sketch, so I got two challenges in one card. I don't accomplish that very often!!

Very cool challenge, Lori! I'll have to let this one roll around in my brain a bit while I work today.

Hmmm. I'll have to think about this one. No creative ideas immediately popped into my head when I read the challenge. I don't know if I'm creative enough to even do it, but I'll try something! Thanks for the challenge!

Glad to see you all are getting my idea~ it seemed a bit hard to explain. I was given a few pages from an old dictionary but really punching out of newspaper and distressing it is a great inexpensive way to make custom accessories. Thanks for playing along friends!

Well, I don't know if I followed the rules, but we were given creative license. I wanted to use a page from an old recipe book, but being an 'old book' collector, I couldn't bring myself to tear out a single page. And my scanner is broken, so I couldn't scan it either, so I hand-wrote a recipe poem instead. Here it is: http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/ga...+ppuser=161466

After seeing the challenge post this morning I quickly ran to my craft room and made the background paper I intended to use for my card. I knew I wouldn't have time until this afternoon because I had to take DH to the doctors this a.m. and go to the greenhouse to pick up flowers to take to my mother in PA tomorrow. I also had a few cards to complete for my Mom before beginning on this challenge so I thought I'd hop back online just to be sure I read Lori's posting correctly. YEP, I HAD IT RIGHT!!
I thought I'd quickly comment on those cards completed in the gallery but have to tell you I nearly fell on the floor when I saw Lori's (Lucy) card and here is why!!
Lucy & Ethel are certainly on the same wave length today!!! I made the exact same background and picked out the exact same image to use on MY card! CAN YOU BELIEVE IT!!! Well .... needless to say, I had to sit that card aside and now I have to "start all over again". I just can't believe it ... that is so amazing ... and funny!!
Well, I'd better get to the craftroom if I expect to get my card completed ... that is of course once I come up with another idea, LOL!!

I would still use it, girly!! We are all working with the same supplies-it's bound to happen. That's one of the reasons I am never concerned with casing and being so territorial about it. I have made things and then later have seen VERY similar cards when I hadn't even posted yet.

Well, true glitter snobs prefer Art Glitter. I have lots of it, and it's my very favorite. I also like Doodlebug and Martha Stewart. I have some gorgeous mica glitter that I ordered from German Plaza. Just because I think Art Glitter is the best does not mean I don't enjoy other glitter. I have glitter from WalMart, and even bought some at a thrift store. Glitter is kind of like pizza, even bad glitter is still pretty good! I used WalMart glitter on a card today, actually!
I also use Stickles a lot. It is not as good as loose glitter, but it serves a purpose and I like it. I have about 25 bottles, but have decided not to replace them when they are gone. I have enough loose glitter to go for years, and it's prettier and dries more quickly.
I get all my Art Glitter at Creative Play Stamps. Yes, I design for them, but I would not steer you wrong. They are a wonderful company with good prices, lots of sales, speedy shipping and lots of freebies. They also sell CS, BTW!! Not the whole line, but more and more all the time!

You ladies are so much fun!! I have the pieces for the "other" card laying on the table and if I get time, I'll put it together with the thoughts I had in mind ... BUT, in the mean time, I "changed gears" and created THIS card. Hope you like it!!

Do it, Darlene----post that card! We all have our own slant on things, like Carla said--we're all working with the same core elements here!
My favorite glitters...................(goes off in dream trance........................) I LOOOOVE German glass glitter! Kinda chunky, but shines like nobody's business! My absolute favorite right now, though, is REAL silver shavings glitter--that's what I've been using most of all since I discovered it a couple of months ago. Can't tell you how gorgeous it is IRL!
I haven't tried the Art Glitter yet--does that make me a bad girl? Gonna have to order some! Can't let good glitter go untried at my house!
I also use Stickles, but I'm using it less & less. Love the effects of real glitter much better.
All your cards are wonderful, ladies! Can't wait to see the rest!

OK so my card is excited to see her "sister" card whenever you get a chance. Maybe one of us should adopt the others card so they can live together.

WHERE IS EVERYONE THIS WEEK????
There's only been 4 entries for this week's challenge! Vacations? End of School?? If this keeps up, those who have entered a card just might have to make a SECOND creation!!! (Don't want Lori thinking we don't love her anymore, lol!)
I hope to finish my ORIGINAL card today and post it for ya'll.

I AGREE!!! I've been wondering that myself! I don't think I've seen it this quiet here since I joined in a few months ago! It is a busy time, though, I know.
My kids are still in school until next week. They keep them in rediculously long here in Salinas--and we start really early, it seems--usually around the 20th of August--seems like the summer is over before it starts for us!
I think Darlene's right, and we should all make 2 cards for the challenge this week, so off I go to do another, this one was so much fun--haven't used newspaper for one before! (Can you tell I'm lonely? Can't wait for a new "assignment"!)

I actually made mine Monday night, but we have had no sun, so I'm holding all my cards for better pictures. I'm not complaining about the sun-clouds and rain are what we need! Did you know that the OK Panhandle is in a worse drought now than during the Dust Bowl?
Anyway, I'm always up for chatting. I'm on the opposite schedule as the rest of SCS. Everyone else is so busy during the summer, and as a teacher, I finally have enough time to play! There's no one to play with! There I am, standing on the playground, glue in one hand, glitter in the other, all by myself...

Ah, Carla....we'll play with you!
It's so gloomy here in central California on the coast almost ALL the time, that I just take my photos anyway.....not the best, I know, but I never know when there WILL be a nice, sunny day! I kinda like the days cool though, I turn into a slug when it's super hot & muggy, so this works for me. I had no idea it was so dry for you over in OK! Gotta rain so your gardens can grow!!!

Yes, do spill. (Not the Dust, the deets!) I have Art Glitter's Angel Dust. It's just like Dazzling Diamonds. In fact, I suspect that Art Glitter makes SU!'s DD. If I could only have one glitter, I would choose AD.

Don't count me out yet! We're having a really busy week here too. This is Shannon's last week of school and Daisies. Ronan had a good follow-up appointment with the pediatrician yesterday; he's definitely improving! I've also had more projects for work this week than I can comfortably handle during my typical work hours.
(Hey, in the time it took me to type this, I could have made my card! Okay, not quite!) I do have an idea in mind for my card, but I might not get to it until this weekend. Don't worry, Lori, we still loves ya!

Sorry I haven't been around..end of school activities and I am in my 3rd week of radiation treatments for breast cancer. I'm fine...no worries, but I have to drive 45 min each way for treatments and sometimes they are running behind and my hubby is out of town this week.whew! I have been peeking in once in a while to see what's going on
I am hoping to have some time over the weekend..it has been one crazy week and I need a little me time to stamp!

Really? Wow--I thought I had lots of glitter (well...I DO!), but here's all these new ones I don't even know about! Might have to get some Angel Dust, too--now who's the bad girl, hmmmmmm?

Hey Ladies ...
Carla ... I take ALL of my photos indoors! I have never taken one outdoors yet! I just position them under a bright light and use 12x12 cardstock (usually black) as my background. And, there you have it!
As far as the Diamond Dust ... I think I bought it at Archiver's or maybe JoAnn's or Michael's. I've had it for awhile now and I'm lucky to remember what I did an hour ago let along where I may have purchased something, LOL!! I guess the fact that I buy STUFF everywhere doesn't help in narrowing it down to one store either.
