I love big brads and I can not lie...
Butt they give me trouble, my, oh my!! I have some larger brads that have a clear stone in them and they do not allow me to fully ahere the paper. I have some right now on four corners and the paper is being held down with crystal effects and a weight on each corner. I use a snail runner from Wal-Mart...I suppose that's the problem!

I struggle with that but haven't found a solution other than to use pop dots or dimensionals to lift the offending layer up. That leaves room for the prongs. I think some people use wire cutters to cut the prongs off. I usually only bother doing that if I am adding brads to the base, so I won't have prongs showing through to the inside of my card. HTH

I keep a pair of pliers in my "tool bag" for just this reason!
Try holding the prongs with the pliers as close to the top part as you can, then push it (face down) on a soft surface. You should be able to flatten the prongs against the top so it will lay flatter on your cardstock.
Hope that makes sense and helps a little bit!

Besides flattening the brad, you could also try mini glue dots.

I love big brads, just used three on a card yesterday. I use redline tape when I use things like that because even though I really use a great glue, multi mono, but I always worry about it coming loose.

For getting the song unstuck out of your head or adhering the big brads?
Sorry, I couldn't resist.
I used glue dots on the back of my brads to help them stay stuck down. It usually works the best.

Oh, man!! My only problem now that I have the song stuck in my head is that I can only remember a few lines! So to help, I found this...
"Baby Got Back"
[Intro]
Oh, my, god. Becky, look at her butt.
It is so big. *scoff* She looks like,
one of those rap guys' girlfriends.
But, you know, who understands those rap guys? *scoff*
They only talk to her, because,
she looks like a total prostitute, 'kay?
I mean, her butt, is just so big.
I can't believe it's just so round, it's like,
out there, I mean - gross. Look!
She's just so ... black!
[Sir Mix-a-Lot]
I like big butts and I can not lie
You other brothers can't deny
That when a girl walks in with an itty bitty waist
And a round thing in your face
You get sprung, wanna pull out your tough
'Cause you notice that butt was stuffed
Deep in the jeans she's wearing
I'm hooked and I can't stop staring
Oh baby, I wanna get with you
And take your picture
My homeboys tried to warn me
But that butt you got makes me so horny
Ooh, Rump-o'-smooth-skin
You say you wanna get in my Benz?
Well, use me, use me
'Cause you ain't that average groupie
I've seen them dancin'
To hell with romancin'
She's sweat, wet,
Got it goin' like a turbo 'Vette
I'm tired of magazines
Sayin' flat butts are the thing
Take the average black man and ask him that
She gotta pack much back
So, fellas! (Yeah!) Fellas! (Yeah!)
Has your girlfriend got the butt? (Hell yeah!)
Tell 'em to shake it! (Shake it!) Shake it! (Shake it!)
Shake that healthy butt!
Baby got back!
(LA face with Oakland booty)
Baby got back!
[Sir Mix-a-Lot]
I like 'em round, and big
And when I'm throwin' a gig
I just can't help myself, I'm actin' like an animal
Now here's my scandal
I wanna get you home
And ugh, double-up, ugh, ugh
I ain't talkin' bout Playboy
'Cause silicone parts are made for toys
I want 'em real thick and juicy
So find that juicy double
Mix-a-Lot's in trouble
Beggin' for a piece of that bubble
So I'm lookin' at rock videos
Knock-kneeded bimbos walkin' like hoes
You can have them bimbos
I'll keep my women like Flo Jo
A word to the thick soul sisters, I wanna get with ya
I won't cuss or hit ya
But I gotta be straight when I say I wanna ******
Till the break of dawn
Baby got it goin' on
A lot of simps won't like this song
'Cause them punks like to hit it and quit it
And I'd rather stay and play
'Cause I'm long, and I'm strong
And I'm down to get the friction on
So, ladies! {Yeah!} Ladies! {Yeah}
If you wanna roll in my Mercedes {Yeah!}
Then turn around! Stick it out!
Even white boys got to shout
Baby got back!
Baby got back!
Yeah, baby ... when it comes to females, Cosmo ain't got nothin'
to do with my selection. 36-24-36? Ha ha, only if she's 5'3".
[Sir Mix-a-Lot]
So your girlfriend rolls a Honda, playin' workout tapes by Fonda
But Fonda ain't got a motor in the back of her Honda
My anaconda don't want none
Unless you've got buns, hun
You can do side bends or sit-ups,
But please don't lose that butt
Some brothers wanna play that "hard" role
And tell you that the butt ain't gold
So they toss it and leave it
And I pull up quick to retrieve it
So Cosmo says you're fat
Well I ain't down with that!
'Cause your waist is small and your curves are kickin'
And I'm thinkin' bout stickin'
To the beanpole dames in the magazines:
You ain't it, Miss Thing!
Give me a sister, I can't resist her
Red beans and rice didn't miss her
Some knucklehead tried to dis
'Cause his girls are on my list
He had game but he chose to hit 'em
And I pull up quick to get wit 'em
So ladies, if the butt is round,
And you want a triple X throw down,
Dial 1-900-MIXALOT
And kick them nasty thoughts
Baby got back!
(Little in the middle but she got much back) [4x]

When I want to use larger brads and don't want to use dimensionals I just cut the prongs off and use a glue dot. My SU craft an drubber scissor cut through prongs like they're butter.

Oh, what great ideas...thanks, thanks, thanks!!!! Sorry about the song going around and around in your head sprtchick. I was amazed galet1 that you posted the whole song! I've never really known what was all in that song/rap. And now on top of that we have the square butts from Burger King which is a very strange commercial for a kid's meal!

Oh, eclectic paperie is wonderful....loved the glazed big brads....lime rickey and wisteria. Also, some great DP! I don't see a lot of DP I like and I really loved some of theirs. QUESTION....where is the red line type of tape at Wal-Mart? In the craft, office or hardware section? Thanks...

I agree wholeheartedly. Only worse for me is that I keep hearing "I like square butts and I cannot lie..." Anyone else seen that creepy creepy Burger King guy in the commercial for the Spongebob Squarepants promotion they're doing? We almost fell off the couch laughing the first time we saw that commercial!
(Oh - and sorry to the OP for hijacking, but with a thread title like that, you asked for it!

I tap my brads with a hammer after inserting. If they have a decorative, crystal or painted head I protect it with cardstock and of course, I tap gently. That flattens the prongs at the back. If my usual adhesive isn't enough, I add a glue dot just under the papers corner.
