Shimmery White on the cheap?
I love to do the gamsol magic technique. The BEST paper to do it on (IMHO) is the shimmery white, but at almost .75 a sheet, that gets spendy...
Anyone know of a good online source for the equivalent of SU shimmery white for less?
TIA, all you extremely helpful folks!

cutcardstock.com has a Curious Iridescent 89 lb Cover weight CRYOGEN WHITE Cardstock which is a dead ringer for SU's Shimmery White. When I got it, I was able to get a great deal on a 100-sheet pack, but I am only seeing a 25-sheet pack on there now for $8.95. It does get cheaper the more you buy though.
Now, tell me about this gamsol magic technique I seem to have missed!

That's using colored pencils with odorless mineral spirits (brand name is Gamsol but there are other options)...it makes them blend a little and look more vibrant, like watercoloring, if that makes sense?

I get mine at Anchor Paper, but I live close by. They do sell it online as well, but I didn't look at shipping prices:
http://www.anchorpaper.com/retail/stardreams.htm
You have to choose it from the drop-down box. I think I get 8.5 x 11 Cover weight.

I use the Beckett Expression Iceberg, which I get from Marco's Paper in Cincinnati, OH--it has a wonderful smooth textures that the color just glides over! It's also recommended by Sue Nelson, of Heartprints.net.

Their price is great!! If I order 100 sheets it works out to be about 34 cents a sheet!! (that's figured with the shipping and handling cost)
BUT a question...
What color in the STardreams collection is it? Quartz?? or Citrine?
TIA!!!

Is that the same as Stardream cardstock? If so, the cheapest place to get that is
www.envelopemall.com I think 100 sheet for about $20 and is 105 pound cover. I love that cardstock.

Where did you find the cost of shipping and handling on that site?

The company listed below has this gorgeous Sparkle Malmero paper. It's not the kind that has the glitter on it but has a nice sheen to it. You have to turn it from side to side to see the sheen on the white but on the rest of the colors you can see the sparkle. I've purchased from them several times and they are the nicest people. Call them if you're interested and they will tell you how much shipping will be. The white is called Malmero Perl'e, 8 1/2x11, 92 cover wt., 25 sheets for $7.16.

Paper Temptress has a Cryogen White Iridescent too - price rollback now makes it .53 per sheet....she'll send you a free sample if you ask for it too.

I forgot to mention that the 92# cover weight Malmero paper from paper-paper.com is pretty heavy. I've bought other 92# cs and it's not as heavy/thick.

Heather, thanks for the great idea. I never thought of gamsol on shimmery CS. I usually buy a sheet or two of whatever looks good at Paper Zone for special projects since SU's stuff is so expensive. Not the most economical for big purchases, though.

Thanks for all the great replies! I also found it at paper-papers.com, and already got my order in...
Got text weight (a little heavier than copy paper) cryogen white and poison ivory. 50 sheets for 8.95.
Ended up working out to about 30 cents a sheet including shipping.
The weight is a little lighter than I like, but the pencil lead slides on this weight just like the cardstock weight.

One note -- a couple of years ago I responded to one of these threads and bought a boatload of shimmery white and vanilla paper that was advertised by the seller as being "identical to SU's and several folks on SCS agreed.
It is not. It is nice, it is similar, but it is not as nice as SU's. SU's is more shimmery.
I don't know the name of what I have, but I am still using it, so I can't justify getting any of SU's, but when and if I ever use up what I have, I will buy SU's unless I can see the paper for itself.
So -- I would advise not buying tons of anything advertised as similar to something else unless you can see it in person....

Is this the same paper that, when used with stampin up markers, won't streak? I had heard that the Bazzill Bling paper may not streak too. I have heard that watercolor paper works, but the look isn't what I was wanting for the cards I make. I was hoping to find something like the shimmery white or the Bazzil Bling that would allow me to color without streaking. Or, is there something that I can spray on Whisper White paper for the color to go on evenly?
