Turning/Disappearing Circles: Techniques

Hi
Not sure what the 'technical' term for what I am after is, but here goes with the description.....
Years ago when I was little, I had a book where you turned a circle clockwise and it intertwined with another circle to show another picture (like a baby lamb turning into a sheep)...
The circle was in 'parts' so it slid into the other circle....
... is this making any sense to anyone???? help......

what I am after, is a template to do this......

Sounds like it would be a form of a viewmaster type card.

Just checked that style out... not quite what I am after...

These interactive circles were found in childrens books, and generally showed one picture turning into another. They had a little tab/ribbon attached to the circle so you could spin it 'through' the other circle.

I have been searching everywhere for a template to do these circles - even looking for a second hand childrens book to pull apart... *sigh* no luck yet....

I know what you are talking about! My daughter had one of those books for Christmas once. Unfortunately, she was given it a much too young of an age and completely ripped it apart. It was really cool looking, and would be a very awesome technique to try and duplicate. I think I would start by taking two circles and cutting them into pie shapes, perhaps, without completely cutting through the center and trying to get them to overlap each other the way you want. Then connect with a brad in the center and glue the bottom pie pieces of the circle to another piece of solid cardstock. Attach the ribbon to one of the unglued pie pieces and see if it turns properly. then do it again on pretty paper that is all decorated or even with photographs. Have fun!

YAY - I'm not going mad thinking I had hallucinated the whole image....

If anyone knows where there is one of these books, new or secondhand, I will gladly pay whatever anyone is asking...

I remember that the pictures had a third small circle in the middle of the image that must have been used to "hide" where the two images didn't quite cover each other. But it had an image on it that corresponded with the pictures. It was the same on every page, so you kind of blocked it out after a while. But on a card, I think you could get away with even just a large brad. Good luck. Be sure and post your efforts!

I have that pattern and I think it was called hidden circles I also got another one from a friend...it is more complicated to make but it doesnt fall apart as easy. I found with the one on that website if you turn it a little to far your pieces come apart. Or maybe it was just me, I have not done that card in a long time. The other pattern is like a big circle with slits cut into it. If you want me to hunt it up and copy it for you send me your snail mail. It may take a few days til I get out though. Dar

Reading your description made me think of this card I had seen a few days ago on Jackie's blog... she calls it the Moving Circle Card. I hope it's the technique you're searching for- if not, it's still a cute card!

sparkyart is right about the changing circle falling apart if you turn them too far. It seems like there must be some way to add a "stopper" to the pattern but I haven't figured it out yet!

How's that for a challenge?
