Alternatives To Copics

I have heard so many good things about Copics, but there is no way that I could ever be able to afford them.

So, knowing that they are likely the best...can anyone tell me a cheaper alternative? Right now I am using pencil crayons! LOL!

I have been using blick studio markers from dick blick they are like a copic but with diffrent ends. I do not have the money for copics either and these are like 1.80 each. There are also bic mark-its and sharpies. They are the same type of marker without the double ends. HTH

You could use Prisma marker. They are less expensive, they are bigger around than what the Copic's are and I found that they had a slight smell to them, but they work about the same as the Copic's. If it is the expense that is holding you back, you can order a few at a time if your budget allows. I usually order mine from The Merri Artist http://www.merriartist.com/ They are a US store but even with the exchange and sometimes duty the price is less than what you can get in Canada. I have also ordered the Copic Ciao markers from Curry's https://www.currys.com/catalogpc.htm...0376&NBReset=3 they are Canadian, located in Winnipeg. Scrapin Great Deals and Stamping Bella both carry Copic's as well, and they are in Canada. If all else fails you can use the SU Markers, I don't find that they blend as nicely as the Copic's but they work just as well when you are on a tight budget.

I found a great tutorial on Julie Buhler's blog- Paper Pleasing Ideas. She has a video that is absolutely wonderful. Be sure to check this out.....she is one talented lady! She uses SU Markers.

I have a set of 36 Bic Mark-its I will sell you for cheap if you are interested. I only used a few of them before I got my Copics, so they are almost new. PM me if you are interested.

Are you interested in markers or just another way to color? I have a tutorial on my blog for coloring with Prismacolor pencils. They are more affordable than copics and I feel that I am getting similar results.

When you consider that they are refillable and are artist's quality, they are probably not as expensive as you think (though the initial cost is high). I bought a set of the Prismacolor markers to save money and didn't like them as much as the copics and they are not refillable and the size/shape is harder for me to use. So I am giving them to someone else and sticking to Copics. I looked at the Tria markers and they are almost as expensive as getting the Ciaos so I don't know if there is an alternative.

Just buy the good ones a couple at a time and you probably won't regret it!

I love these markers too. I have a bunch of cards in my gallery using them. The result looks similar to copics and they're VERY inexpensive!

I'm with you. Shopping on a budget took me to Target where I was able to buy the 36 Mark It's for like $11. Since then they've had them even cheaper there and at Wal-Mart.

What colors did you limit to? I have seen some websites that sell the Copics in sets of 12 and 24 for around $50 or so...I of course want them ALL but can't afford them all so I am wondering what colors I should go for. I saw somone say to get 3 variations of each color - like a light, medium and dark version of each color to get the right blending options. Thanks for any input.

Are you using the 0 color blending marker? I believe that it is used in blending the different colors.

Sorry to jump in on your conversation but I thought I MIGHT have some info to help you out.

The COPIC colorless blender is NOT what we tend to think it is. IF you are used to the SU! or Marvy blender pens, you have been used to actually blending with it.

The COPIC blender is really used to help "erase" small mistakes. The name is VERY misleading. You use the different shades of the same color marker in order to blend. For example, you would need 2 or 3 shades of pink to blend together, starting with the lightest first and then adding the next darkest one and then going over that section again with the lightest one in order to take away ( or BLEND) any harsh lines.


If you use the COPIC colorless blender to try to blend, you will take away color and wind up with a white (blank) spot.
