Left over rubber ideas?

Now that Stampin'Up!'s stamps come pre-cut I have all this left-over rubber after I mount my stamps. When we use to have to cut out the stamps I would save the small scraps and use as dimensionals.

I was wondering though if anyone out there has some new ideas to share. Some of the pieces are quite large now. Maybe SU! should have a recycling plan.

They are great for areas like on the back of a door handle that might hit the wall when it opens, replace a rubber pad that has come off on a cutting board.

I have punched out the small and large oval shapes to use as shadow or ground stamps. They work great! I also punched two 'dots' out with my CAD, put one on each end of a chopstick, and can make my own polka dots!

You can cut them into almost any shape to make your own custom stamp! No sense letting that good rubbah go to waste!!

I cut 'em into small, random, geometric shapes and mounted 'em on a wooden block to make my own background stamp. Had enough to make one for my sis and DD.

A recycling plan would be awesome! However, I believe I recall that they don't currently have a plan for that even at the plant. I might be wrong, but I think what they cut away is trash.

I saw a pic on someone's blog that showed a playground with SU rubber (purple and red) made into little chips to provide a soft surface to land on under the play set.

Good idea to punch out shapes from these, but are you doing it with your SU punches? I'm guessing that you'd have to remove the rubber from the cushion, but will the punch handle the thickness of the rubber?

When I used my SU punches for the ovals, I punched only the rubber, then put it back on the foam and trimmed it by hand. When I punched the dots with my Crop-a-Dile, I punched through both rubber and foam at the same time.

Fantastic ideas! I had made a few geometric and Back ground stamps for my kids with left over rubber but now I may have to start making some for myself. I love the ploka dot idea. I never thought of punching it with a cropodile.

I ran a piece through my Big Shot using the Baskets and Blooms die and got a flower stamp. It wasn't my first choice, but it's the only BS die I have with a small enough cut out.

Wow! I'd love to get my hands on some extra rubber! I love the idea of the ovals and polka dots! That's such an awesome idea! If anyone has any extras that they'd love to get rid of, please feel free to send my them way! LOL!

You can also use your Boig Shot to cut the rubber and make new stamps.

I've never bought foam dots or 3D adhesives. I just use the rubber or foam alone to make the images pop. I'm loving the create-a-stamp ideas, though! Just missing the Big Shot or Cuttlebug. BTW, I haven't SEEN a Cuttlebug in stores for a while. Anyone else?

I went to Michaels last week and they had all their dies on clearance. (not the embossing folders). My guess is they may be coming out with new dies, possibly a new machine too.

I can't tell from the picture if you separated the rubber from the adhesive. Great ideas.

I use the foam for dimensionals, but I keep the paper backing in tact for some of the stamp sets. You can use the open parts like a stencil to sponge shadows for your stamped images.

I love the idea of making your own stamps, but does the adhesive from the leftover rubber get gummed up on the Big Shot die?

I use my left over rubber too as dimentials for cards only......
*I have bought rubber gasket from a plumbers mart to make my own stamps too...sorry I cannot seem to post the photo....I used the bird die from SU and used it as a stamp-shading with my copics...I also mounted it only on fun foam then Alean's over & over glue as I have unmounted ALL my SU stamps!

You can use them as frames for shaker cards. Peel off the rubber so it's sticky on both sides and fill the empty space with beads, confetti, etc. It is completely surrounded so nothing leaks out.

I have not tried this yet..but I was told :
to remove foam backing..punch just the rubber with a punch.
then, turn the foam over to put it back on and then can be
used on acrylic blocks with easy removal.
Can't wait to try this

I have cut mine in small squares and put them on the corners of the cupboards for when the boys slam them.
I have stamped on the rubber and cut it out to make awesome 2 step stamps for a few that did not come with them.
I have also used the foam sheets instead of rubber to make stamps with

I've just been giving all the rubber to my 3-1/2yr old to stick on paper and make her multi dimensional art pieces. Maybe I will have to sneek some past her to keep now. Great idea ladies!

I've saved TONS of it for who knows what reason! I had to start throwing it away too because there was too much. I did make a nice mosaic background stamp but it's hard to clean. It all wiggles around and comes unglued if I use my Stampin' Scrub. Dimensionals are a great idea! Can't believe it never occured to me. And polka dots! You guys are genius!

Long ago, I saw someone make their own "hand" stamp with the leftover scraps. I think they traced their hand onto a piece of wood and then used small pieces of rubber to fill in the tracing.

After they stamped it, they put a popped up Earth image and added the phrase "He's got the whole world in his hands."

I'm sure I won't be able to find an image but If I can find one, I'll post it.

Can someone help me with my SU doesn't mount the stamps on the wood blocks before they send them out like every other stamp company. I rarely buy SU because this really really irritates me. I would be OK if they would us the option to purchase them unmounted but already cut out with foam etc ready to stick on my block and go.

There must be a good reason... it certainly isn't because they are cheaper that way. I am not trying to be snarky I just don't understand.

SU sends out their images unmounted and it is actually to save on costs (compare the price of an individual stamp at Michael's to the cost of what one stamp in a set from SU comes to). We recently used to have to trim around the rubber to mount the rubber onto the blocks. Now each set is already die cut to make mounting easier. They don't put them on the blocks for two reasons, one is to save costs as I mentioned (production labor for mounting would be very high) and also because many folks like to leave their stamps unmounted and use cling sheets or some other method to store their sets.

I copied the shape of my nesties onto extra rubber and cut that out. I know have a full set of circles & rings. I can use them with my justrite stamps to make a ring of colour around the edges, or colour just the center circle. I also used them to make background paper of varying colours/sizes of circles. It turned out great.

LOL! I just got back from fishing mine out of a bag that was waiting to be picked up. Thank goodness the trash men are still one street over! The rubber has been saved!
