LSC203 - Non-Cheesy Valentines! - 01/16/09
LSC203 – Non-Cheesy Valentines!!
Over the years, I have bought boxes and boxes of cheesy Valentine’s Day cards for my kids to give to their friends at school. You know the ones I mean . . . Barbie, Spiderman . . . Spongebob?? (Okay, I happen to personally LOVE Spongebob, but I digress . . .)
Your task, should you choose to accept it, is to make a Valentine card that you could easily replicate 30 times (which is about how many kids were in my children’s classes when they were in grade school). What does this mean exactly?? What are the limitations? I am happy you asked!!
First, the colors must be limited to the following: pinks, reds, white, black or kraft (no browns, grays or purples allowed!). Next, limit the amount of layers and embellishments. Think about having to replicate it 30 times . . . do you REALLY want to do a multi-pieced, distressed, stickled flower for that many different cards? I think not! Think simple, yet fun!!
Also, try to limit the hand-cut pieces . . . why cut it when you can punch it instead?? Punches, Nestabilities and Cuttlebugging are cool, just try to keep whatever you do simple. See how many people you can help inspire with your creation.
Another limitation is that your creation should be a “postcard” type of card . . . meaning no fold! It is basically a card “front” . . . kind of like all those cheesy Valentines. Let’s one-up those boxed babies, shall we???
Amelia (Wendybell’sGirl) and I have created a few samples for you:

If you are new to the challenges, please feel free to do this one or ANY of the challenges at any time. There is no time limit. They are not races to see who can do one first, nor are they contests of any sort. All the challenges are simply to provide inspiration and to get us stamping!
Need help linking a card? Follow these instructions!
1. Open 2 windows: One window for your card and one for this thread.
2. In this thread, click on reply and type anything you want to show before the link.
3. Got to your card window. Highlight the address for your card. (It says www. splitcoaststampers.com/gallery/showphoto..... and so on)
4. Click EDIT. Click COPY
5. Go back to this thread. Click PASTE.
You’re done!

*The task - should you choose to accept it *, LOL.
I never like passing on challenges, so we shall see...even though it's getting hard to come up with cards that will pass as Valentine's cards for a challenge and as non-Valentine's cards to use!!

Sounds easy enough until I have to actually make one! But make one I will.
Back later.

What time does the challenges come out on Fridays? I would of stayed up last night to play...just to tired.

Here are my cards!
When I approached this challenge I wanted it to still be like the cards you get in the boxes at the store. So I cut it 4.25 x 2.75 for the elephant one. Then the big one I thought could be the "teacher card" that is always included in the store bought ones! Thanks for looking, and thanks for the challenge!

I just made my grandson's Valentine's, only 16, but they had blue, green, yellow and red with Buzz Lightyear. So, here's my Valentine for this challenge:

LSC203 A Very Non-Cheesy Valentine
HERE is mine. I used Nesties for the image & sentiment, corner adorner on the bg panel and adhered pink cs behind the main bg panel. Very quick & easy!!! But not cheesy, lol!!!

This was not easy, Wendy! Not at all - used to multi-layers, embellies, etc., but I gave it my best shot! I used a piece of black cardstock to take my photo, I limited it to two layers and white embossing powder. It was quick, but it wasn't easy to come up with 'easy'! Thanks for a great challenge.

Sounds like a great challenge. My 6th grade son, Nathan, tells me that he wants me to make Valentine cards with a Zelda design. That would be from the video game, The Legend of Zelda, and the colors I will be using are green, yellow, and black! Ick!
I will enjoy looking at everyone's creations though....
