JustRite Small Letters - cleaning?
Hi there,
Does anyone have a good way of cleaning the Small Letters? Whenever I try to clean my wooden stamper with small letters still inserted, either with a toothbrush or a scrubber, they just pop out everywhere. I end up cleaning them individually or swirling them around in water, both of which aren't particularly convenient.
Also - am I blind, or is there no exclamation mark in this set?
Thx!

Not sure about the exclamation mark, haven't looked for it. I can't imagine it not being in there though. Anyway, as for cleaning, the easiest way for me is to stamp on a baby wipe or a damp paper towel. Otherwise, as you've learned, they will pop out everywhere. Don't rub them on anything, just stamp up and down.

I made this mistake!! I wasn't thinking and rubbed them on my stampin' scrub like I would normally do. I had letters flying all over my desk, and even lost one. Now I just stamp off on paper as many times as needed, or use a damp paper towel.

I tap mine on a wet paper towel, that seems to clean them just fine. They are easy to lose track of, that's for sure. I may just order a back-up set -- sooner or later I'll lose one too many of the E's ... and not b abl to spll corrctly.

Been there, done it, got the second set... also I got the rectangle blocks and my rationale was if I did an exceedingly long phrase I wouldn't want to run out of letters mid phrase

I VERY GENTLY rub mine on my stampin' scrub... but if you do it too hard or too much they will start coming off. I've learned that when not in use the plastic cover should always stay on, otherwise you have some that will jump ship/run away. Luckily, I've been able to find the couple that I thought were lost!
I never noticed until you said something, Nina, but you're right - there is no exclamation mark!

Dabbing on a wet papertowel works the best for me also. Those things are TINY and like to jump away !!

I also gently clean mine on wet paper towel. I got tired of crawling on the floor to retrieve the ones that went flying! Aside from that, I absolutely love this little set.
Just went and checked mine--don't see any exclamation points. Funny, I never tought about it before.

I tap them up and down on the stamping scrub pad, having learned the hard way not to rub back and forth. If you rotate your hand in different directions as you tap them, it does a pretty good job of cleaning.

Hey everyone,
Thanks for the great tips. I will definitely try the damp paper towel (nice low tech method!) and going up & down instead of rubbing. And I think you're right - a 2nd set would be nice. I've discovered the hard way that 2nd sets of the larger fonts would be nice too...
Just love the versatility of these stamps though.
Jenny P, you cracked me up with your 'spelling'!!!!!!! (like my exclamation marks? Maybe I need to cut up an I or a / to make one...?)

It makes sense to get a second set of the fonts & small letters. The small letters weren't that expensive, but I'd like to wait for a sale before buying the extra font sets. Does JR put them on sale?
There was a terrific sale during the holidays and I was able to get all the sets for a great price. (There were a ton of the little self-inkers in the dollar bin, too!) I didn't see any font sets on sale, though.

Re: no exclamation point
i'm not familiar with justrite letters, but i used to type on an old portable typewriter and you had to type an apostrophe, then backspace and type a period. hope this works for you.

Hmm, good thought re: exclamation mark... afraid it wouldn't work in this case simply because of the design of the letters. Right now the only thing I can think of is to take an exacto knife and carefully cut away part of another letter. I won't bother for now though, it's really more of a 'nice-to-have' thing! I just thought it was kind of odd they didn't include one. Maybe they'll update the small letters set someday.

Huh! I didn't notice there were no question marks either! That's odd. Maybe we should make a suggestion to JustRite and they can release a new Small Letters set. I would have loved to have had the exclamation mark (I put 'absolutely no peeking' for an advent calendar). Now watch, next thing I stamp I'll want the question mark...
