remounting my unmounted stamps

So I gave unmounting a go, and while I liked it at first, I've decided to go back to keeping my woodmounted stamps mounted firmly on their wooden blocks.

I only unmounted a few stamp sets, and I still have the wood blocks and stickers and such, but am not sure how to go about getting them back on since they are all on EZ mount. Can I just glue the EZ mount to the wood blocks so it acts as my foam backing? Has anyone tried that?

Yes, you can put Crystal Effects on the EZMount and it should work just fine

I purchased remounting foam from Cornish Heritage Farms, its $3.29 for 10 X 8sheets. I also gave unmounting a try and hated it. A waste of my time and money.

Reading this thread has been a blessing...I've read so much about going UM but have resisted. Not only resisted but rebelled....this might horrify people to know that I even mount the clear stamps on wooden blocks. I just like having the stamp/block all ready to go when the crafting urge strikes. Thanks for making me feel normal...there are mounted die hards in the world. Yay!

i also mounted the FEW bare rubber stamps i have bought.


it really it so much easier to have them mounted... just my opinion!

I don't have issues with UMs myself, but I am a FIRM believer in limiting your um experimenting to just a few sets in a trial run rather than going whole hog with your whole collection, lol. Less costly both in materials and effort if you decide you don't like it...

Ok, I've remounted my stamps! I used rubber cement- seems to be doing just fine. I'm soooo glad I saved everything! They look a little ugly, particularly the few that had been die cut that I put on ez mount (I only have scissors, not a hot knife) but they work and that's the most important thing. I have all my SU blocks all jumbled up without labels on them, so matching up the stamps with the blocks was a little tricky, but I found a home for every stamp eventually!

I unmounted one set ...and basically couldn't sleep the night I did it. I ended up waking at 2am to go back to my rubber room and remount them...didn't last more than 2 hours LOL!!!

Doodledee sounds like something I would do. I would be out of sorts if things were not just right in my stamp room before I go off to bed.

I still feel like a newbie with stamping and have LOVED my wood mounted stamps...for some reason I just like the feel of them....have followed threads about unmounting them and all and just never saw the reasoning behind it except for the storage issue...

Mono multi should work well and stay flexible, unlike the Crystal Effects.

I have had some stamps that were not straight, so I pulled them off and re-mounted them back on the block with super glue in the past. It worked pretty good!

I mount all my stamps, so when I purchase those with cling on the back, I just use a tape runner (like mono adhesive or any other brand) to coat the cling and put on my wood block. I've never had any come off. I make labels by stamping with stazon on clear labels or clear contac paper (shelf liner).

My sister unmounted some of her stamp sets. I HATE to borrow one of them, I think they are hard to work with. I think she wishes she never did it. Glad I never did.

I agree with keeping them mounted. SU! does know what they are doing. They just stamp better, especially detailed images. Glad I am not alone in my thinking.

this is sad... I have some unmounted Bellas that I cannot get to work because I can't figure out how to use them since they are unmounted. Isn't that sad??? I love them but they just stay where they are @ my house. I guess I'm also a die-hard mounter (heehee, that makes me laugh).

does anyone know if you can us those thin foam sheets, I think used in crafting, to mount my rubber with the wood cushioning it like a regular mounted stamp. Maybe even 2 of those sheets of foam. Thanks

All I do with my bella's is use Aleene's tack it over and over and put them on an acrylic block to stamp with....they work great with no foam on them.....

Ok So I also LOVe my wood mounted but I also like my acrylic clings too ! But I usually reach for my wood mounted 1st. I received my first Stamping Bella today, and of course didn't have anyway of mounting it, (now I know this will make you all laugh) I really wanted to try it out so I used a peice of scotch tape to stick it to my acrylic block LOL. It worked and I was surprised at how well it stamped LOL!! Can you wood mount Bellas?

I personally haven't ordered from these companies, but bookmarked them at some point when I was considering whether to go "M" or "UM" with all my sets. With my personality, they ALL have to be either one way or the other, so I was exploring options of how to mount any unmounteds if I decided that mounted was the way to go. (That last sentence sounds funny in my head - I keep re-reading it to see if I could word it differently but keep deciding that it says what I mean!)

I'm glad to see this. I'm actually in the 1st stage of unmounting and was wondering how I would like it. I'm not going the EZ Mount way though. Too expensive, a pain in the butt...etc etc.. I'm using the Tack -n- Peel which when I did my first stamp set I LOVED it. Keep the foam/paper backing on and just place where you want. No expensive EZ Mount for me. Plus I keep the integrity of the stamp and then just have to clean the Tack n- Peel every once in awhile.

Maybe you would rather go that route? I'm running out of room, (well, kind of), so this is something I'm thinking is worth a try.....

I am an unmounted person top to bottom! I went to my first SU on March 13, 1998 and within a year, my husband was mounting all my stamps PERMANENTLY on acrylic and I've been stamping see-through ever since. I had a really hard time going to EZ mount because I don't do well lining things up, but now I'm an EZ mounter. A my older stamps fall off because they are drying out, I'm putting them on EZ mount. BUT I have a dear friend in England who has sent me some stamps from his stock and he almost made me sign a contract that I wouldn't take them off the wood! Those are the ones I have trouble positioning, but I've kept my word! LOL

No, no, DON'T use Crystal Effects!!!! I saw a post here a while back from a gal who'd repaired a stamp using CE and over time it turned the foam hard as a rock! Better to use rubber cement -- if you let it dry till it's just a bit tacky before adhering the two surfaces together (apply it to both sides), you get a permanent bond.

Thank you for the sites. I regret having used EZMount and am now peeling it off the back of my stamps. (It isn't that hard to peel off and still leaves more than enough 'sticky' on the back to mount them on the wood blocks.) I don't even have all the blocks for my sets so will need to order some.

Ok so I am answering on my own post. I thought you all would like to know the answer I came up with.
I used two adhesive backed craft foam sheets and stuck them together. I first used UHU all purpose glue and glued foam to rubber. DON'T BOTHER. Go straight to rubber cement or I used contact cement. Than I used the contact cement to stick the foam to the wood and than the rubber to the foam. It worked perfect. Tonight I used the stamps I put together and they work as near perfect as any one I have purchased from the store, but mine are special because my dad made the fancy wood blocks for me to mount mine to. Thanks Dad they are perfect!

When unmounting SU! stamps does anyone just use the rubber with no foam? I had an old set that was given to me, must be several years old. I went to mount it on the blocks and the rubber was separated from the foam. I used them this way, no wood, no foam with a mouse pad under my cardstock and got a great image. Is it ok to do it this way or am I somehow damaging my stamp?
P.S. I have alot of wood blocks if anone is interested in purchasing them. PM me.

Yes, they work fine with no foam. Depending on the individual stamp, you might find that you get a better impression if you put a cushion under your cardstock to stamp it. A pad of newsprint, a piece of craft foam, something like that. Other stamps may work better on a hard surface. Whichever winds up working best, it still beats messing around with buying new material, whether it's new foam, new ez mount, whatever. I'm too cheap for that, lol!

All my Stampin Up stamps are mounted, all my stamps that I bought mounted are still mounted. I do not use clear stamps. I also have a tons of stamps that are bare rubber, and some that are on easy mount. What I do is keep 'em the way I get 'em, and use them accordingly. If I have a choice of unmounted or mounted in a particular stamp, I choose unmounted. Mostly due to cost issues.

I have one large plain acrylic block that I use for easy mount stamps. If they are too big for that block, such as a background, I use my piece of acrylic from my PSX stamp positioning system.
I also have a set of acrylic blocks that are brushed with repositional tacky glue.I use those for my bare rubber, and I stamp over a foam pad for cushion.

I love the feel of a rubber stamp on wood. I have purchased some unmounted rubber stamps that have no foam and used a layer of fun foam that is sticky on one side and used contact cement to attach it to a wood mount. My husband is a woodworker by hobby and makes me any size wood block (with the finger-holds and all) for them and any stamps I hand carve myself. I stamp the image on the wood block in Memories black ink and cover it with packing tape if small enough, or use sticky laminate sheets to cover the larger ones. I have an alphabet set that is acrylic and is the only set I use on an acrylic block as I that way I can position them in any way that I want. Bought one set of acrylic leaves and mounted those on wood blocks, too! So, I would never unmount a stamp unless it would be to reposition it or replace a damaged block. I like seeing the image and line up all the images I plan to use in front of me. I also take sets apart and reorganize by topic---leaves, butterflies, roses, sentiments (further divided by thank you, birthday, individual holidays) and that way can take out all the related stamps at once to play.

I would mount all my rubber ( any mfg) i buy unused wood blocks (usually on ebay) because cleaning the sticky mess of used ones is a pain in the everything, and i buy double sided sticky foam there too . then just stamp them with stazon on transparency sheets and run that through an xyron machine for an index sticker.

i do this to the "double mounted" sets too, buy spare wood and make them all labels.
