Scraplings Question
I was thinking about making some scraplings for Valentine's Day, but I'm sort of stumped as to what I'd mail them in. I am so used to buying A2 envies and being set with that size, but I thought there might be a more appropriate envie out there for the scraplings. Thoughts?

I don't know what envelope you would use other than A2 since the post office is pretty picky about what size envelopes are standard and what they will charge you extra to use, since it is an inconvenience to them.
Hanna Stamps is having a Scrapling challenge this week in their forum. I had never heard of them before, and now I can see that i'll be making quite a few of these!

From what I can gather, scraplings are creations made from scraps (hence the name) that are sized 1 1/4" by 4 1/4". Anyone out there who can give us more info?

SU! has long envelopes that might work well for this. I just checked and they measure 6 3/4" x 3 1/2, so they may be a little big, but they can go in the mail with no extra postage.

Here's some I made. I'm attaching them to teacher gifts, not putting them in the mail. Any envelope with smother them! LOL They are really small: 1-1/4 x 4-1/4 usually. I made these 1-1/2 x 4-1/4.

There are swaps for them here on SCS in the 3-d section...I don't know if there are any that are open right now, but I am doing a Valentines day scapling swap, they're cute!
And I love yours Valerie!

what a great idea!
i don't do swaps but i asked my daughter if she would like these for valentine's for her friends. kinda like a swap in that i would be making a BUNCH!
she and most of her friends are book worms, i made these bookmarks for them last year, so i could probably use them for inspiration!

Valerie - those are darling! I think you're right about an envelope smothering them. Maybe I can find a library pocket or something to use...or just not worry about it
Thanks everybody!

Thanks for answering my question. They look like the book marks we use to make using magnets to close the ends up.

I am wondering if a person can take apart a financial bill (the smaller envelopes you can buy 100 of) paying envelope
or maybe a 3 x 3 inch envelope and shorten or lenghten it to work or reduce on scanner and use
with the scor pal, and co-ordinate to match card. Does anyone know if these would require extra postage as a square card or unordinary size to go through post office machine.

I have some envelopes that are 5 x 3.5. What if you did as suggested in a previous post and punch a design along the bottom of the envelope and seal up part of the bottom envelope instead of the side of the envelope. Would that work?
I don't think there is extra postage on this size of envelope

Ok, this may be a dumb question, but if you are using the leftover piece after making 4.25 square cards, why wouldn't you make the scraplings 2.5 x 4.25 since this is what I have leftover?

Hooked_on_stampin asked why the scraplings arent 2.5" wide instead of 1.25". A lot of people cut their cs ahead of time into 5.5x8.5" sheets. When you cut that down to make a 4.25 square card, you get a scrapling. I guess you are like me and keep your sheets whole! The other thing that can happen is you already used a half sheet, then make a square card with the remaining half sheet, also leaving you with 1.25"! I think they are adorable and a great idea even if you don't have any scraps that size!

At Michaels tonight (in the dollar section with all of the kid toys and stuff) they had 10 pack of little crayola crayon shaped notecards (for putting notes in your kids lunchboxes) that had envelopes that were 1 5/8 x 4 5/8!!!!!!! Perfect for scrapling that are hand delivered!!!

Here's an envelope I came up with, not for mailing, but certainly for tying onto a gift or hand delivery:
http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/fo...10&postcount=7
It's from another thread about scrapling envelopes.

RE: hooked-on-stampin's reply...I would be careful about punching a design on the BOTTOM of the envelope since that is what is run through the Post Office scanner. I think it would tear. But you could do something at the top of the envelope and glue a strip of cardstock to the inside top only. When the scrapling is inserted in the envelope, it would be below the strip of cardstock and after the envelope is sealed, it would be held in place.
Today I mailed myself a valentine with hearts punched on the side near the top and red cardstock inserted between the front and back, with my square valentine in place on the inside. Let's see tomorrow if it arrives in one piece. I have to mail 20 valentines, so I want to be sure it will work before I actually punch the hearts on the envelopes. Otherwise I will just glue the cardstock on the side so the valentine won't float around.

OK, this makes sense, and you are right, I leave my cardstock whole until I'm ready to cut.
Thanks for the info.

square card scraps
I don't cut my cardstock ahead of time, either. but, I am wondering, if this is the remainder from a square card; don't square cards require extra postage
since they don't fit appropriately in the postal machine? So, I never even make square cards anymore, and don't see many. However, I do go into my scraps to make scraplings from end pieces.

Ladies,
As to the question about extra postage on odd size envelopes.
I just returned from the post office to verify the amount of postage on my cards I have made, which are 4 1/4 x 4 1/4 & 5 3/4 x 5 3/4 and they are acceptable with regular postage. The Post Master said if you had any concerns about the size of your envelopes and the amount of postage go to their web site usps.com and double check the size of your envelopes.
Hope this helps.

Subbing, because the scraplings you all make are beautiful and the links are great. I always made bookmarks and cut my scraps down for tags, matting and layering text and the like. but now I'll have to have a go because they look adorable, never seen any Over the Big Pond, and I love different!

UK scraplings
A4 cuts down to A5 half a sheet this only gives apossible top fold card square of 4 and 1/10 inches
leaving a top fold scrapling of 1 and 6/10 in. by 4&1/10in.
Are we missing something Over the Big Pond? what size is your starter sheet?
Or should we fold it longways and cut 2 small square cards and a wide scrapling topfolded out of the whole length?
Then what do you do with the bit you cut off the bottom which is 1&3/4in. ?
Maybe you could clarify for us on A4?

The website says specifically that square cards require extra postage.

Unless you are mailing your square cards in a standard, rectangular envelope, then it's the regular postage price.

Okay, I'm just in the process of learning your card sizes; when I cut down a folded A5 to make a card that is 11cm x 11cm, it leaves a leftover piece that is just over 4cm x 11cm, that leftover piece is what could be considered a top fold scrapling. Does that make sense?

That's about the size of the white lined security envelopes I buy in the drugstore. They are not expensive. I would do a little decoration on them.
