Default coke can snowflake

someone told me they saw a snowflake ornament made from a coke can, the snowflake die, with the big shot. Has anyone else made one of these that can share some tips? It sounds really cute. Thanks

Default WORKS GREAT!!!! LOVE IT!!

Just tried it. Just a note: wear gloves. Think I will make these for a craft fair next week. Going to find some reg. coke maybe some pepsi too. I stuck the 2 together with a pop-up glue dot cut in half.

I used these to make an embellishment for the four in one template box in the tutorials on here. They are so elegant looking! I like to use the big energy 16oz cans. I can get two flakes from each can.

Thumbs up

I've never used a big die with the cans but I have used punches with them. If you have an old issue of Scrap and Stamp Arts, February 2004, pg. 38, there is an article I did back then about it. I made earrings, used them for embellishments on cards, and as embellishment on my first ever scrapbook page!

I found that there are many colorful cans out there and if you use lemonade or juice cans you can get a variety of colors and you don't pay deposits on the cans, so if you live in a state that has deposits on pop cans, you save money by using the other cans.

I love the idea of using a big die with them but don't think I have a snowflake anymore.:(

Default Coke Can Ornament

If you have to use gloves to handle these, is there a way to smooth the edges before giving them away? I wouldn't want to bestow a dangerous present...

My question too. The edges of the snow flake must be pretty sharp. Do you do anything to them?

the actual snowflake isn't sharp. I even let my 3 yr old handle them. Its the cutting apart the can. When I cut the top and bottom off it made jagged edges which were sharp. Probably doesn't help I'm a little kutzy. But when u run it thru the die it seems to like "curl" the edge. Makes a beautiful snowflake.

Does anyone know if this would work with the Cuttlebug?

I think the die they are using is a BigzXL and it might be too thick to fit through the cuttlebug...someone else may know more about it.

The Cuttlebug dies were not made to cut anything thicker than cardstock. You need a heavy duty die like that Sizzix Originals or Bigz to cut alumnium.
