I'm ordering the Sizzix Die that makes the ornaments out of scored circles stuck together - I love that geometric shape. It's in the Holiday preview mini catalog. You can also order the circles in SU's DP, I think, but I have so much paper I want to use up some of my own. I also liked these stars by Vicki (revmom47) here: Stars
Outlines Stamps makes some cool ornament toppers that you stamp and color and put on the top of glass or plastic balls - here's the link: Outlines Rubber Stamps Ornament Toppers
I love the look of these, but they look time consuming.
Let us know what you come up with!
You can use round coasters or chipboard shapes, cover them with designer paper and embellish just like you would a card. Just punch a hole in the top and add a ribbon.
It might not be the "fun and funky" you're looking for, but my demo brought an ornament to my workshop last weekend made out of punched design paper. Just punch 8 circles with the scallop punch out of your choice of design paper. Fold each one in half and then glue them all together in a circle (back to back, make sense?!). Then she ran a piece of glittery line/cord through it and added a bead at the top. Very simple, but really cute!
I made one of these with some glitter cardstock for the edges of the star and will be making more. I am going to punch a hole in one point and thread some cord through to make an ornament out of them.

I made this one for a JustRite contest a while back. It was really simple if you have circle nesties, and I think they're gorgeous. I think I have a pdf instruction sheet if you're interested.

Jonelle - another way to turn them into ornaments is to make 2 identical stars and stick them back to back with a pop-dot. You can loop the hanger thread around the pop-dot and it will let the ornament move on the tree a little more freely.

Small triangle boxes would make nice ornaments. The tutorial is in the resource section.

Thanks for the idea Cheryl! I forgot to mention that I don't have the tag punches, so I made it using my CM Square Maker instead. I have also seen others make these using graduated sized ovals. I think they all turn out very pretty and you aren't limited if you don't happen to have the tag punches like me. ;)

Here's the link for the PDF instructions. Scroll down a bit and on the right hand side there a couple of tutorials, the one you want is the Paper Globes. I had the file downloaded, but when I tried to open it just now it said the file was corrupt. I hope I can download it again, as I plan on making more. HTH and have fun!

These are so fun to make!! Especially with all the fun papers out there now! I made these like 10 years ago with old Christmas card fronts, before the days of perfect sized punches, cricuts, etc...I cut them by hand...
Another thing is when you are traveling at Thanksgiving, but some pieces and parts in a baggie and take them with you. We have a lot of down time over the weekend and its the prime time to get that busy work done.
The lesson from Charlie Brown: The people who make a difference in your life are not the ones with the most credentials, the most money, or the most awards. They are the ones that care.
I made these stars last year. I found the instructions in magazine PaperCrafts Holiday Cards & More December 2006 issue, designer: Gina Hanson. I usually keep old magazines especially Christmas issues for years and years.

Can I ask how you made these? They're beautiful! Unfortunately I don't think I could find that back issue.... :(
TFS!
These are all so pretty and neat and cool. When you post will you post directions/patterns too please? I have been making ornaments for my kids (now grands and greats) for over 40 years~I'm always looking for ideas!!
I have a video tutorial for the paper snowflake (star) in my gallery. Go to the link below for the picture of the snowflake and there is a link to my blog for the tutorial. HTH
