I'm working on an extremely small budget and need enough adhesive to send out approximately 175 cards/month. I'm wondering what the best adhesive to use would be. I've thought about glue sticks, since they are obviously cheap- but I HATE working with them. I doubt that they are going to want to do a bulk buy of tombo adhesive though. Any suggestions for what we should/could do?
Hi Marji! I usually ask the participants to bring some adhesive. Not great luck so far, though. I love my ATG and refills are CHEAP! That's mostly what I use. I'll be following this to see what others are doing.

I am thinking ATG is the way to go too, it might cost a bit more to start up, but in the long run it pays for itself... and it is not near as icky as a glue stick.
My suggestion would be to get an ATG (the red one, not the yellow). It would be a huge financial OUCH in the beginning, because the ATG dispenser is $35 to $40, plus the shipping is $9 (UPS) (at http://framingsupplies.com/3M/3MATGTape.htm). BUT the tape is cheap, AND very, very strong. And the more tape you buy at a time, the cheaper each roll is.
Shipping is another huge expense - $9. But I think if you buy the ATG gun and a ton of tape rolls, in the long run, it would be the cheapest route.
I hate glue sticks too.
Before I got the ATG, I used to use double-stick tape, for which I paid $3.88 for 1000 inches (27.8 yards) at Walmart, but they discontinued them at my Walmart. I used to cut this tape in half lengthwise to get more out of it, but that was sooooooooo time-consuming!!
With the ATG refills, I get 36 yards for about $3.40 (assuming I buy 12 [924] rolls at a time - that's $2.40 a roll, plus I figure an additional dollar for shipping per roll, even though their shipping is $9, not $12).
I use up about one roll per month, because I love layering.
I buy double sticky tape from I think Staples.com for like $5.99 a roll (large core roll) and I bought a 12 pkg..this will last me a long time. Other than that..Wal-Mart sells a DUCK product in the stationary dept that is like the ones that SU demonstrators use. They do not refill. The cost is 4 pkgs for $9.88. Cyndi
I use double stick tape mostly but buy it at the base commissary. Used to be less expensive than it is now. I have purchased it at Sams club before as well.
Hobby Lobby sells Mono Multi and often they have it for 1/2 off. Just have to keep a lookout for a sell.

This is good double side tape, and it's very inexpensive. You get a roll of 55 yards for $4.25. It does not come with a dispenser though. You just unroll a piece and cut it off. It has a paper liner that you peel off after you stick the sticky side to your paper.
I've used it on lots of cards and other paper projects and I'm very pleased.
The company is based in Hawaii, but they ship reasonably and very fast.
There is a thread here, "Wish me luck, I tried some new adhesive for my ATG' The lady bought some new tape and after she tried it she let us know that she like it because of the ease of use and that it laid down fine. Check this thread out and read the responses. The responses have been positive and I am considering purchases some of this tape when I have to reorder adhesive. I think one of the responders said that it cost her $36.00 for 24 rolls and free shipping since her order was over $35.00. I think the place she bought the tape also sells a dispenser that is cheaper than the 3M ATG.

This looks very much like the adhesive that we used at a bank I worked at years ago....but we were able to just tear the pieces off altho they did not have to be flat. It was very much permanent.

An ATG gun. I have talked to several people that save the cards people send them. A lot of the mono adhesive or cheaper adhesives don't hold very well. I have not gotten any feedback that the ATG comes apart.

I would go with Mono Multi Glue by Tombow. A tiny, tiny bit goes a long, long way and it holds like the dickens!!
You can purchase it online in quanity for about $1.90 a bottle. One bottle would easily do 100 -150 cards.
Absolutely agree, I switched to this when SU started selling it, and I can get it locally pretty cheap too. It goes a loooooong way. And if you have sloppy gluers then the adhesive remover that is $1.95 in the catty does a great job! Added bonus, you don't have have a big cost to start this method, like you would with the ATG gun. If there are several ladies making cards at the same time, you would have to either share 1 ATG gun, or buy more than one.
Good luck in your adventure!
I have had great luck with the 3m Scotch Quick Dry tacky adhesive. I think it compares well with the Mono-multi and is more reasonably priced. Its also easy to find at most discount stores and Archiver, Hobby Lobby, etc. Like the mono-mulit, if it oozes out, the adhesive remover/eraser works well.
First- wow that is a big job. I have lead a card minstry
in the past as well. God Bess you for you time & talent.
Second - because it is a ministy it does have its cost
two things could happen, ask for a donation from
the church familes or ask for the expeses to be in the
church budget.
Third - I buy double stick tape at Sam's 6 rolls for 9.22
works the best for me.
Fourth - but the SU glue does as well.
To Crafter 4 Life - I saw your message but can't seem to find the original

Can't find the original thread so I can contact the gal trying and liking the new ATG adhesive. Do you remember who it was? Thanks! You can email me at [email protected] if you know. Thanks again!

I love this tape/dispenser (it's red) because it sticks very well and none of the 12 dispensers I've used so far have ever gunked up, stuck, etc.
I have no idea how long it lasts because I usually have several started at once (I craft in multiple areas). I think I paid about the same price as Cyndi.
DUCK also makes 2-sided tape - I've found it at Walmart and Rite-Aid. IMO, it is stickier than most widely-available double-sided tapes but I cannot compare to an ATG/adhesive for it.
When you do settle on an adhesive, you may want to instruct your less-experienced cardmakers to use it sparingly. I think a lot of people who haven't used tape runners much tend to use WAY too much, running totally around the perimeter of something instead of using just a little swipe in each corner. It's like the ol' Bril Cream ads: A little dab'll do ya'!

I have a duck from Office Max or Staples (forget which store it was) that is refillable. LOVE IT!!!:-D
I live in Vegas and get this from Viva Las Vegas Stamps. This stuff is the bomb and lasts for a long time!!!!!!! I used to use the red Duck dispensers and they are soo expensive compared to the Miracle Tape. And since this is for a card ministry you can probably use all the miracles you can get Good luck in your endeavors....
