I will be co-hosting a Splitcoaststampers Get Together with Marianne (ilikemarkers) Walker from Copic Markers on Thursday, October 9th in conjunction with the CK event that is being held in KC that weekend. This is a free drop-in Splitcoast get together with an organized swap and a collection of cards for the troops! There will be nothing for sale, just a fun time to meet up and visit with fellow Splitcoaststampers and maybe ask Marianne a question or two about your favorite markers!
DETAILS
What: Kansas City SCS Gathering
When: Thursday, October 9th - 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Central Time
Where: Residence Inn by Marriott, 10300 N Ambassador Drive, KCMO - near the airport
Why: Because I want to show Marianne some good ole midwest hospitality!
RSVP - If you are attending - please sign up below by responding to this thread, SCS name and real name! This is just to give us an idea of what to expect in our room planning. I'll edit the 2nd post on this thread with those planning to attend.
SWAP DETAILS - There will be an organized swap, round robin style at 7:00 p.m. If you are swapping, please note that by your name. I will keep a tally updated on the 2nd post, as well so you know how many swaps to create. There are no vendor restrictions to this swap! (Y'all know Marianne likes markers, right? ;)) Please swap cards of the same quality that you would like to take home. CARDS FOR THE TROOPS - We will be collecting cards for the troops! Please bring cards for any occasion that we can send to the troops. Military members will use these to send to their loved ones for birthdays, thinking of you, sympathy, anniversary, i miss you...anything really, except Christmas, not sure we'll have the turn around to get them distributed in time for Christmas. Bring your blank, unsigned, unused card with a new envelope in a clear cello bag or ziplock baggie and put in our drop off basket!
Really looking forward to seeing some gals from the KC area! Hope y'all can make it! Let me know if you have questions. I'm sure I'll make multiple edits to this post...
I am coming down from Omaha as well. I won't be able to make the Thurs. night get together as I have to work Thurs. My class will be on the 10th as it is scheduled now.

Maybe if I'm super sweet to Marianne (bring her some chocolates) she'll let me pop into the Friday class and meet some of the chicas that arrive too late to visit on Thursday night! ;)

I am coming from Palmyra, MO, across the state. I am driving over on Wednesday and will drive home on Friday after I make a brief visit to the Vendor Fair, that is if I have any $$$$$ left.

I am such a computer dummy. I just tried to edit my post, but it did not happen. I would like to participate in the Swap, but I do not know what it requires. If you will tell me, I'll be glad to do it.
Next ?, will this be in the same hotel that the class will be in? I do not drive well in the big burg. My town is about 3,000. So the sign says, but it has to be counting all dogs, cats, birds and the mosquitoes!!!!!
Me again with quick??? On the cards for the troops, do you sign the backs or do you leave them plain? In the plastic bags, do say what type of card it is? How many cards do we make for the Swap? What size? In a baggie? Signed or unsigned?

Cards for the troops: I would keep the back detail very simple. These will be cards that the soldiers use to send home to their loved ones.
Friends are like the walls of a house. Sometimes they hold you up, sometimes you lean on them. But sometimes, it's enough to know they're just standing by.

I clicked on your blog to take a look. The link is bad. I thought it was just a type so I took out one letter and it worked. You can edit it and then everyone can view it.

Ok, off to fix that link.
Micki - you know I took the class in July - You don't need to bring your own markers. Marianne provides those for practicing and demonstration. I would recommend a notebook to take notes on and if you have any images that have given you fits to color - I would stamp those on white and get some feedback from Marianne on how to approach those images.
I am really excited to finally meet people behind the scenes of Split Coast (which I use all the time). My friend Cheryl Bell and I will proudly bring cards for the troops but will not be swapping. Cathy Nowlin of Mexico, MO
I've been traveling, but it's great to see so many people coming to our gathering!
As for pens for kids in Africa, go ahead and bring them, I wasn't planning on collecting them yet (we were going to set something up later) but I'll take your ballpoints now and send them on to the US contact so they can get to the African Kids who can use them.
How nice of you to select this date. How about Dec. 25th for the next one?
I think I speak for Marianne and myself when I say, we would never deliberately set an event date to offend. Honestly, I never even looked at the calendar when we set this up, back in the summer. Marianne's Kansas City training classes were set to coincide with Creating Keepsakes events that are going on this weekend. That was the determining factor.
I will be attending the October 10th class and should be there for the SCS get together. I don't know anyone else going so I will be the one standing by myself for a bit I'm not real outgoing either ....well until I get to know people better. But I'm really excited about the class and getting to meet you ladies!! I will bring some cards for the troops, but I won't be participating in the swap.
