Default If you're an SU demo, do you love it?

I am signing up next week on the 11th or 12th and the impression I get is that the demo's are quite happy and loving it. So tell me, is it true? Do you love it? What do you love best about it?

Thanks

Erin

Do I love it? Absolutely!
I'm just a hobby demo but I love their products, love the discount, love the preorders - just to name a few things!
Congratulations - have fun being a demo!

Absolutely! There's no way I'd be dedicating my time to a business if I wasn't in total love with it. Interestingly, the best thing about this business is something that I didn't expect when I signed up - it's the having a team to work with that's the best for me, I've learnt so much and feel like I've also helped others which is just an incredible feeling. I signed up because I knew SU! had very high quality products and that was very important to me but now I've found an endless list of things that I love about Stampin' Up!

Cheers,
Angela

I was a hobby demo for a couple of years and I loved it. The company treats it's demos really well, and it's a blast being on the "inside track" where products are concerned. If you buy a lot of Stampin' Up products, it's definitely a good deal! Good luck to you!

I love being a demo! I love preorders, discounts, "being in the know", our products, and all of the great friends I've made - other demos and customers, too!

I love it for so many reasons. One of the best is that I can do something for just me. It's the refreshing part of my day as a SAHM. I love sitting down with customers and teaching them something new. I always ask what they'd like to learn and base my projects around a technique or product. Hearing "I didn't know I could do that . . . " and then having them do it is fantastic.

What I love the most is the group of people I have met along the way whether they are customers, people I've met here on SCS or through my blog.

Plus how many people can wake up everyday and do a job that they love and that brings them pleasure? I can!

Ooh now I'm even more excited! I've never heard other companies demos talk like that, (mary kay, avon, pampered chef etc) but I asked the question because in so many signatures here at SCS it says things like "proud SU demo" or "I'm thrilled to be a SU demo" etc.

Very cool!

I agree with everyone--love it! I wouldn't spend the time either if I didn't think it a worthwhile business. And, like others said, the best part is meeting so many people. When I look at the people that I "hang with", every single one of them I met somehow through SU! Plus, for me, if it was a hobby only, I would have a tough time justifying some of my purchases. Now, nothing I buy that is even remotely related to my SU! business comes from the "family" money--it's all SU! money!

I LOVE SU!!!! IMHO I say that the quality of their products surpasses any others that I have seen. They stand behind their product, are sooo easy to deal with if you do have a problem. Their staff is very friendly and helpful - awesome customer service. I have met so many nice people that have become my friends....and..... I have a lot of fun representing SU!

I love, love, love it! There are so many things I love about it. The one that comes to mind for me right now is that I can put into the business what I have time for. I am a stay at home- home-schooling mother of 5. Life is full! I have been having some health issues lately that made me cut back on my business end. I put in what I can when I can, no pressure. Which still makes it relaxing and enjoyable. Now if that new catty would only get here. ;)

If I didn't love it I wouldn't do it. Life is too short to do stuff you don't love. Signing up to be a Stampin' Up! demo is one of the best decisions I ever made. I've met so many wonderful people, both other demos and customers, in real life and on-line, I feel like I've gained another family. Being a demo is awesome!

I have a great upline (thanks, Jennifer) and she challenges and rewards us constantly. I love my customers, and some have become friends that will last a lifetime. I get wonderful toys to play with ~ er, I enjoy my work, that is (lol). What's not to love?

it's up to you to make it how you wish...I would dare say no one forces anyone to be a demo or consultant for any company...so if you don't love it I don't understand why someone would do it...

That being said - I LOVE IT

As Weezie from "Dragon Tales" would say: "LOOOOOOVE IT!" (lol, that's what my kids are watching right now).

I'm still coming down from my convention high (arrived home last night). OMGosh, just when I think last year's convention can't be beat, they go and do it again. My head is still spinning.

Truly, this is a company you can be proud to be associated with. Shelli is so genuine. I've had the privilege of enjoying one-on-one time with her on a couple of occasions (on the trolley in Memphis when she sat next to me, and about a 15-minute talk at Lansing regionals) You will never convince me that money is more important to her than relationships are. Never never never never never. Not in a million years.

Did you know that when they built the new SU! facility, she did not want an "office"? She doesn't believe in putting herself "above" her employees. And when she finally agreed to an office (after a LOT of convincing from others), she said she didn't want a door on it! It took quite a few people to finally convince her that sometimes a closed door is needed. She very reluctantly agreed to an office (and a pretty small one for a CEO!) with a door.

One time I was speaking with someone from Demonstrator Services. Everytime I call there, the people are so nice and always seem to be in a good mood. I asked this man (who was not a young man, but perhaps in his 50's) if working there was really so great, because everyone is always in such a good mood when I call. He said "Honestly? It's the best job I've ever had."

One other story: Back in (I believe) the 90's when SU! sales were down, Shelli was faced with the possibility of laying people off. The company simply didn't have enough business to keep everyone busy. Shelli couldn't bear the thought of laying anyone off, so what did she do? She sent them out into the Salt Lake community to do public service, and continued to pay them! Now I ask you, how many CEO's would do that??? This is one of the many examples that prove that relationships are more important than money to Shelli.

You are joining a fine company that is headed by a fabulous woman. Welcome!!!

I love it. It is a wonderful company. The charitable concerns of the home office are remarkable. It's easy to sell a product you like and believe in. Of course the discount, announcements and sneak peeks don't hurt any!

I was a hobby demo awhile back until life gave me some pretty big lemons... but I loved being part of the SU family & I think that is what describes it best ~ a family! I had a wonderful upline ~ who treated me wonderfully even though I wasn't a top seller! And talking to the SU support staff ~ it would bring a ray of sunshine into that day!

Best of luck with your new endeavor! If you've done your research and found a wonderful upline ~ you won't regret joining!

Yes, I love it. The company is great, the products are fabulous and my fellow demos & customers have become a huge part of my life (in a good way). I have been in it for almost 9 years and I absolutely would not be doing it if I didn't really love it. Welcome to the family.

While everyone is answering this great question here is mine...can you make any money selling SU? I know that I love the product and my profits will go to getting more cool SU stuff! In this time when everyone is unemployed and don't have money for extras how do you make money? I am not trying to sound like I am being greedy or what not. I really would like to start a business and have a job too. thanks!

The answer to your question is definitley yes, but, like any other business, you will get out what you put in. I know many demos for whom SU is a full-time job and who not only break even but significantly contribute totheir household income.

At Convention we heard a presentation from a demo about making wise business investments with our Stampin' Up! purchases and I was thrilled for her when she announced that over the years her SU income grew so that it is now higher than her husband's non-SU income! But it doesn't happen overnight and it does takee a lot of work and discipline.

My best advice is to sign up with an upline who really understands the business side of being a demo and can support you as you're starting out with lots of business ideas. An upline will not do your work for you and will not get you customers -- that's your job as a business owner -- but she will challenge and motivate you and she will be a good sounding board for your ideas. Once you sign up make a list of your goals and what you need to do to reach them and then work your plan. You can do it!

I am a hobbiest trying to make a business. I LOVE SU! I love the stamps, discounts, embelishments and the support staff. The only thing I wish were different is that I could change my upline. I have been a demo fo three years and I don't even know my uplines name anymore. My only suggestion is to find an upline that will help and support you make your business how you want it.

I'm thinking of becoming a demo for SU. I was previously a demo for CTMH but I wasn't 100% in love with the product, so it was hard for me to "sell" it to others. I love, love, love SU products-it's pretty much all I use now for stamping.
All this talk of choosing the right upline-has me wondering, how? I know about the demo locator tool on the SU website-but that doesn't really help you "know" who would be the right upline. Know what I mean?
Also-do you have to have an upline in your area? Say I form a good working relationship with someone online-could that person be my upline?
Thanks!

You do not have to have someone local. I've heard of people have a "local" upline and then the second they sign up they don't hear from them again. You can definitely have a long-distance upline. That's how Splitcoaststampers was started!!!

You can "interview" potential uplines. Ask them what type of support they offer, how you can get hold of them, if they are a far away upline if they have a newsletter, etc. Also if you think you want to be a business demo vs. hobby (there's no distinction with Stampin' Up! per se, but whether you want to make a profit vs. making your minimums yourself) you may want to choose a business minded demo.

Whether you find potential uplines in person, through a demo locator or on-line, interview them and ask them all the questions before you sign up. A good upline will understand why you are asking the questions and won't mind an interview. If you come across an upline who doesn't have time to talk to you before you sign up, chances are she won't have time after you sign up either.

And while having a local upline has it's advantages, especially if that upline has demo events and meetings and swaps, a long distance demo can also provide a lot of business and creative support to her downline through things like team blogs, yahoo groups or newsletters, teleconferences and team swaps. IMO a long-distance upline who offers a lot of resources and support is better than a local upline who is not interested in doing anything for her downline.

You can succeed in this business without a supportive upline, but if you're thinking about it before you sign up why not do a little research and find someone who can help you be successful? All it takes is a little time to ask the right questions.

I am a Demo and I am having a fun time with it. I mainly became a Demo to take over a hostess club. Not sure how long it will last but as long as its fun while it does!

I think I am a weirdo Demo though.. I am sort of sad to see the Spring/Summer catty go.. I just loved it. I look forward to the new catty but still bummed about that pretty peach cover going away. LOL

So glad you asked this question b/c I am thinking of signing up once the new catty comes out. I am hoping there will be some kind of sign up incentive!

I joined in March and have been SO happy. I've met great people and love the discount I get on my own stuff!

I really love it. The most unexpected thing that I love about it is all the wonderful friendships I've made as a result of becoming a demo. Love the discounts and the sneak peeks. I love the excitement that my demo sisters share whenever something new comes up (which is quite often).

There will be a new sign-up special soon! Starting Aug. 11 and running through Oct. 11, when you purchase the starter kit, you get to pick one stamp set from the Fall/Winter sampler or Idea Book & Catalog for free!

I've been both a business demo and a hobby demo. I made pretty good money at it while a business demo (enough to pay for my daughter's school tuition for 3 years and my own SU stuff) and I really enjoyed it. I had to become a hobby demo because my business actually grew too much for me! My husband began working longer hours, but not on a predictable basis, and with 3 young girls I couldn't schedule events anymore and KNOW DH would be around to stay with them. I'm happy being a hobby demo, though, and SU treats us so well. I feel spoiled as a demo! And it does feel like family, the product is top notch, and the employees genuine and friendly.

Congratulations - have fun being a demo!

I absolutely love it!

And Shelli commented on the "j" word at Convention. There is no such thing as "just" a hobby demo. Whether you are a business demo or a hobby demo, you play an important role in SU!

SU! is great!

I have read that keeping your workers in the job during tough times is actually a much better plan than firing or lay them off. Glad to hear that SU did that.
