What do you all think? Those of you who have them? I saw their mounting system, so a person has to buy those first. Ouch on the pocket-book. But, I guess once this expense is done with, you are good to go. The sets looks very nice. I really liked a lot of them ..... great background stamps too.
Do they stamp nice?
My MAIN question is: why would they have this type of mounting system? I understand how it works, I just don't get why a person would go this route. Does it have to do with storage? The stamps on wood look quite thin. I see the advantage in this sense. But other than that, ????
Will be keeping these in mind for future purchases. Like I need them.
Denise~ the reason for purchasing the handles is the feel.
I haven't used an acylic block since taking mine home from CHA.
The images stamp *really* well, and it is about space saving.
It's the best of both worlds, red rubber (mounted and unmounted) taking up less space.
As for why would they go this route~
it's another option for those who strongly dislike the acrylic feel, prefer red rubber, and for those who haven't made the jump to the unmounted side, might find this the best option for them!!
Shipping is also another factor, less money to ship!
And you can purchase the handles one at a time if concerned about the initial investment.
I am also looking......Do you have to use the handles to use the stamps? I guess what I'm asking is.....can your stamps be used with an acylic block?

Dougswife, if you go to their forum on SCS, there is their store link. On that website is a video showing the mounting system. And you can use YOUR unmounted stamps with their system.
But if you look at the sets, some will say unmounted, some say wood mounted (meaning you need the handles) and some sets are mixed. With the mixed, you would require the handles too.
At least this is what I got from looking at their site.
The unmounted ones definitely can be used with an acrylic block.
The rubber is the most deeply etched I've seen in a long time...even the solid images stamp beautifully!
For me, it's the space saving version of wood handles. 1 set of mounts, and the stamps take up very little room!

yes Denise~ this is correct.
One of the nice things is that most sets only require one or two handles~ so you could get a handle and a kit and try it out.
It really is *so* much better than an acrylic block.
and yes, you can use any cling mount stamp with their handles.
I'm so glad you are checking into Unity Stamp Co!!!! I will admit, that I am on the design team, but what I am saying is totally just as a stamper and scrapbooker - these are really great stamps!!! The images are crisp and clear, and something else that is sort of . . .well. . .WONDERFUL about them, is the SIZE of a lot of their images - they have sets that are AWESOME for scrapbooking, because they are LARGER. (They have plenty of small ones too!) But I think thats something that really makes their images stand apart from a lot of other places. These stamps are really great for stampers AND scrapbookers. (And ditto what everyone else said too!!! Just wanted to throw my two-cents in!!) I really think that if you like the images in the Unity kits, you will NOT be disappointed with whatever you may purchase!! There are lots of projects in the gallery here too, using them. Go do a search for UNITY and you will find pages and pages of great inspiration and ideas!!!
I'll jump in to say that I bit the bullet and bought the full set of handles. I have CTMH blocks, which I love. But of course, the first stamp sets from Unity I wanted to get were mounted. So I need the unity handles for those. I really like the concept because it makes them so versatile. And I'm all about saving storage space.
Thank you so much for checking out the system and for asking your questions.
I, too, am on the DT and am so proud of, and in love with, the system and the stamps.
I think the Unity system takes the best of both worlds. I have always preferred a good rubber etched stamp - and I so love the ease of a freestanding mounted stamp. I also loved the feel of a good wood handle. But the main downside was always the sheer size and weight of it. I have a lot of stamps, both wood mounted and acrylic. With my wood mounts, I went through a time where I unmounted some, some put on cling mount, some put on just alene's tacky straight to the rubber - I think I might have tried everything at one point. I always came back to the simple fact I liked the woodmounted best (as evidenced by the fact my favorite stamps are STILL wood mounted sitting on ledges on my wall - see my blog for pix) but I hated the size/storage issue. The Unity system solves that issue for me. (and I can't wait til she makes the mounts themselves available so I can convert the rest of my woodmounts to the thinner wood). And the fact I can use them for my stash of acrylics and unmounteds, and still have that lovely feel of a regular wood handle was just icing on the cake.
that's all before we even get to the images. the unity stamp images are just hands down hip and cute. and they stamp BEAUTIFULLY...
I had no idea that I would need to order their handles, or that a set would come mixed. I've looked at the images a lot but haven't ordered yet. I'm glad you asked this question otherwise I would have ordered and felt stuck not knowing how they come.
I totally thought they just came mounted or unmounted.
They can be used without the handles...the handles are just much more comfortable. The mounted stamps come on slim wood cassettes that slide into the handles, but are perfectly usable without the handles. Then the unmounteds are on the cling foam.
My suggestion is that you buy a set that uses one of the smaller handles and buy a small handle if you are unsure that you want to invest in the whole set. They really do feel wonderful to work with. For those of us that love the feel of a traditional wood handle, these are heaven!!! It really is the best of both worlds!!!
I didn't see this mentioned above, but have you heard about the new Product Focus forum in the resources section? Unity Stamps is the first product 'focused' on! I don't see myself buying into this system. Some of the images look great, but some, like the backgrounds, only come mounted on wood. For those of us who have gone unmounted, Unity stamps would be a step backwards. It's too bad, really. If they sold all their stamps unmounted AS WELL AS mounted, I'd be a customer.

Thanks for being honest Debra, I'm sorry that Unity isn't your cup of tea . . .isn't it good news that there are so many wonderful stamp companies out there, that there's something perfect for everyone . . .somewhere! I am excited for all the people who feel like Unity is the perfect system for them!

OMG yes they stamp nice...way beyond nice actually!
I am a die hard SU! fan. Die hard!!
The 1st time I stamped with my USC stamps I could not believe how beautifully the image stamped! Honestly, I called my friend to tell her about the image and the feel of the handles and the cushion, I was so excited
Those handles sound wonderful - I went unmounted and have clear and rubber stamps, and I think I would absolutely love them. But the cost! Oh my. If I can go awhile without buying anything else, I could justify it. I'd love to try the quality of their stamps, too, but so far there's nothing that interests me. I'll keep looking though.
(P.S. Home on the Range -- isn't it '... a discouraging word...' ??)
I do so want to order the handles and a few background stamps, but the shipping costs are holding me back right now. Guess I'll have to wait until I can put in a larger order to justify the shipping since no stores in my area are carrying them yet. A girl can dream...
