Default Know of any short Poems/Prayers about boys or sons?

Hi,

I'm in search of a short poem about boys or sons growing up. I am making cards/favors for Moms for our 8th grade Mother and Son Mass/Breakfast. I want to put a short poem or prayer inside, perhaps about our sons growing and moving on, etc.. Does anyone have any poems or prayers or great sites to find one?

Thanks in advance,

~Paula

I don't have any poems, but I do have a quote that I absolutely love. And it kind of deals with boys' futures.

Boys are found everywhere—on top of, underneath, inside of, climbing on, swinging from, running around or jumping to. Mothers love them, little girls hate them, older sisters and brothers tolerate them, adults ignore them and Heaven protects them. A boy is Truth with dirt on its face, Beauty with a cut on its finger, Wisdom with bubble gum in its hair and the Hope of the future with a frog in its pocket.

Sorry I can't be of any more help.

I have only these to offer:

Nobody else like him
He's unique, this one
How fortunate we are,
That he is our son.
_____
There's no earthly pleasure
Than a boy to love and treasure.

Here's one, it's a little long, but might work if you use a tight font. Also, not sure how old the boys are, this seems to be more for elementary/intermediate school boys.

My Son Grows Up

Life is fleeting, years rush past...
and little boys grow up so fast!
Let me take time out to be
thankful mine is still here with me.
And though I'm busy through the day,
let me take time out to play...
Let me take time out to smile,
to sit with him for just a while...
Let me take time out for walks,
for swings and sports and quiet talks,
for sharing giggles, tickles, and hugs,
for patching knees and catching bugs...
for running races, climbing trees,
for helping with his A - B - C's...
For hatching plots and planning schemes,
for listening to his thoughts and dreams.
Let me tuck him in at night,
hear his prayers, turn off the light.
And when my busy day is done,
let me thank God I have a son.

Oh! Here's one I have in my sons' baby scrapbooks...

Why God Made Little Boys

God made a world out of His dreams, of magic mountains, oceans and streams,
Prairies and plains and wooded land.
Then paused and thought I need someone to stand, on top of the mountains,
to conquer the seas, explore the plains and climb the trees.
Someone to start out small and grow, sturdy and strong like a tree and so
He created boys, full of spirit and fun
To explore and conquer, to romp and run
With dirty faces, and banged up chins
With courageous hearts and boyish grins.
And when He had completed the task He'd begun,
He surely said, "That's a job well done."

Also, here is are some sites that have some family-type poems...

You have always been so special
In all the things you've said and done
I am so very proud of you
Simply because you are my son

OR

BETWEEN THE INNOCENCE OF BABYHOOD
AND THE DIGNITY OF MANHOOD
WE FIND A DELIGHTFUL CREATURE OF A BOY

OR

A Little Boy, You hold him close, You watch him grow, You are awed by his spirit, You marvel at the wonder of his smile

I don't know if you would consider this short, but I have this hanging on my son's bedroom door. I thought it was really cute and bought this wood plaque for like 25 cents at the thrift store. It is a prayer, but you could always leave off the first paragraph or fix-it-up. It says copyrighted 1961 F.W. Funnell, so it is the same age as my mom

Prayer for A Little Boy

Now I lay me down to sleep.
I pray Thee, Lord, my soul to keep.
Thy Angels guard me through the night
And keep me safe til' morning light.

Make me a boy who's brave of heart,
willing & strong to do my part.
Please help me to be good each day,
and always honest in my play.

Lord, while I live I want to be from
quick and angry passions free,
With gentle thoughts and happy face,
and pleasant words in every place.

I pray whatever wrongs I've done
You will forgive them, every one.
Be near me when I wake again,
and bless all those I love. Amen.

I just thought it was cute and figured I would post it

I have a coffee table book that my husband gave me for mothers day a few years ago and it is called What Little Boys Are Made Of. These are a couple of my favorites:

Two small arms to hold you tight,
Two small feet to run,
Two small eyes full of love for you,
One small son. - Unknown

Boy Defined:

Nature's answer to that false belief that there is no such thing as
perpetual motion. - Unknown

One of the best things in the world is to be a boy: it requires no experience, but needs some practice to be a good one. - Charles Dudley Warner

These may not be what you wanted but it was fun to share anyway!
Good Luck!

Here are two of my favorites...

Nobody knows what a boy is worth, and the world must wait and see; for every man in an honored place, is a boy that used to be.

This is kinda long but maybe you can take out some parts:

Build me my sons, O Lord, who will be strong enough to know when they are weak and brave enough to face themselves when they are afraid.
Who will be proud and unbending in honest defeat, and humble and gentle in victory.

Build me my sons O Lord whose wishes will not take the place of deeds-my sons who will know Thee, who is the foundation stone of knowledge. Lead them, I pray, not in the path of ease but under the stress and spur of difficulties and challenge.

Here let them learn to stand up to the storm. Here let them learn compassion for those who fall. Build me my sons whose hearts will be clear whose goals will be high, sons who will master themselves before they seek to master other men, who will reach into the future, yet never forget their past.

And after all these things are theirs, add, I pray, enough of a sense of humor so that they may always be serious but never take themselves too seriously. Give them humility so that they will always remember the simplicity of true greatness and an open mind of true wisdom and the meekness of true strength.

Then I their mother will dare to whisper, I have not lived in vain.

Help us O Lord to be the kind of parents we must be to raise them, your way.

 Whew, that was longer than I thought, hope you can use it. I don't remember even a little bit where I got this from.

Default Boy saying

I know this isn't what you need for this particular project - but anyone with teenage boys will appreciate it!

Your mother's love goes with you Son
Everywhere, you know -
Be sure that you don't take it
Where it should not go!

A friend cross stitched this for me and I kept it hanging in my boys' room through out their teenage years.

Default Boy Poems

This is one that I found in the SU Scrapbook catalog.

God Loves Little Boys
By Randy Grayson

God loves little boys and all
that they do.
Exploring and laughing and
roughhousing too.

God loves their energy
eagerness and wit.
He loves their serious side
and their fanciful spirit.

He guides them and tends
them while they grow.
Giving them all of the
grace he can bestow.

God’s plan for his boys is
wondrous as well.
Because soon in their place
little men will dwell.

Not sure where I got this one or who the author is:

"My little boy where are you going?"

My little boy,
where have you been
And where pray tell
are you going?
To fly a kite up to the sky
While all the winds
are blowing.

My sweet little boy
the years are swift.
We have so few to share.
I'd like to hold you
here with me.
But I'm not sure I'd dare.

The time must pass
and you must grow
Away from me I fear.
You're only two
years old my son
So please stay a few
more years.

Right now you're
Mommy's little guy
Too soon you'll be a man.
So stay a while
and let me hold
These years while
I still can.
