Hello everyone!
I want to use fabric cutouts on my cards, and right now don't have time to experiment. i'm thinking to maybe use lightweight fusible web on back and cut out the fabric pieces i need, should help with unraveling fabric. just wondering if i can use doub stick tabe or glue? i'm at a loss, but so much more to do first, before i can try this. any ideas are appreciated.
hope everyone is having a great day!
I made a bunch of fabric pieces stiff with Mod Podge. I use it to add to stamps- like a dress on a person stamp, etc. I usually attach it with glue stick. I find that complete coverage of the glue holds it down better. I don't think I would recommend double stick tape for that reason.
I use my xyron sticker maker...I just leave a border or make a sloppy cut, run it through the sticker maker, leave all layers together, make your fussy cuts, and peel and stick.
I like your idea of the fusible web on the back. Especially if the fabric is prone to raveling. I think that a glue stick would work just fine on the back of the web.
You did not say whether your fabric is lightweight or heavy. When I attached a heavy upholstery fabric to this card, I left the edges sort of shaggy, but I glued it down with the heavy stuff called Goop.
I'd do it like Sherrie said - sew it on. Otherwise, I have also used Tombo's Mono Multi glue to glue it on. Just be sure to use enought to keep it secure.
thank you all so much, for so many different options to try. I'm dying to get started on the idea in my head, but prior commitments in my creative works have to be finished first (they're paying ones, so really gotta finish them)
thanks for all the help, any more ideas keep them coming, the fabric will no doubt be lightweight cotton.
You can use Wonder Under (comes in other names also), you will want the double sided. Iron the Wonder Under on the back side of your fabric, cut it out then iron onto the card. Joanne's carries it in the sewing/notions section.
I used lightweight fusable web and just ironed it onto my card. I cut out holly leaves and berries for a Christmas card several years ago. They are still holding tight on my prototype that I kept.

I have used the fusible web on gift bags and just ironed it on. I did not keep one but when I did this, they were really stuck on. You will have to tell us about and show us your final project!
WOW ! i would never have thought of ironing it on my card! I have used the fusible web for a number of wall hangings but they were on fabric, and i have some here, maybe.....if i get home early enough for work i'll spend a few extra min. to see how this works out!!!!! I'm so excited!
thank you all so very much, how wonderful to have such amazing ideas from so many great people at your fingertips!
Fusible web works great--wonder under, heat n bond, steam a seam all work great. There are some really small irons that are designed for applique--they work very well for attaching small pieces of fabric to cardstock. Here is what I have--
