I use my background su plastic box for groups of single wood mounted stamps. I then put the large background stamps in Sterilite plastic containers. The sterilite that is made for dvds or cds. I can fit at least seven or eight in one, and the top stays attatched, blue hinged and opens in the middle. I believe I read this tip here on scs, the best place for the best tips

and sorted all of my stamps into categories (Trees, Quotes, sentiments, flowers, etc) (SU and non-SU) - now I have MUCH more space and can easily see all the stamps in each category at a glance.
So happy with it.
I have so many SU sets, esp. nature ones that it was overwhelming to remember what was in each little box and I had trouble being able to mix sets and try new combinations.
My unmounted are on EZ Mount storage sheets in binders with index pages.

I use 11x17 acrylic box frames from Michaels. They are all labeled according to type (masculine/scenic, floral, bugs, birthday, words, etc.) or by company if that's how I associate some stamps.
I used to separate all my SU sets into the same categories, but then signed up as a demo and figured it'd be better to put sets back together in their original boxes...

I have clear plastic boxes for each category of stamp, flowers, b-day, and so on. I don't have too many su! sets as I didn't stick with them for very long, and they are all in a slightly larger box.
ALl of my single wood mounts are in smaller Rubbermaid bins per the theme of stamps they are. All of my unmounted's are in CD cases & all of my SU are still in the sets in the cases.
I've seen some folks use pizza boxes or cookie sheets to store their wood-mounted stamps in. They can be easily made stackable by attaching feet to the bottoms of the boxes/sheets that are thicker than a stamp on a wood block. That way the stamps on the bottom box or sheet won't be getting compressed by the stamps on top.
I struggled with this issue for quite awhile and finally found something that works great for me. I tried to put the pics right in here but couldn't, so you will have to click on the links. It cost $250.
Thanks for all the great ideas! Bookmarked that link to take a look at when I get home. Hadn't thought of using pizza boxes before! I'm still new to stamping but I am quickly amassing a large collection of rubber stamps!

How do you store the trays then? I also use these trays but find that I always need the tray that is towards the bottom--they do get heavy to move. I should have hubbie make me some type of slotted shelving or something to store them in.
I have Iris Carts, which are plastic drawer systems, available at the big box office supply store. The ones I purchased have 6 drawers. I got them for $20 per set. I have several sets of these. I organize my loose stamps by category (like flowers, sentiments, animals, etc) and have drawers for dye ink, craft ink, reinkers, embossing powders, adhesives, and so on. I also have a lot of punches so there is a drawer for each style (circles, squares...). These come with casters for rolling them around, but I just have them stationary. I like them because they are sturdy and stackable. You can see my drawers, along with a few other organizational systems I am trying here.
This Link shows you an altered bakers rack I bought off the neighbors sidewalk (they had a yard sale and it was holding up the sign then had a tiny 5.00 tag on it) so, my husband who is an certified welder among other things, added more shelves to it for me. this is an old photo, I actually have more stamps on it now, and i had asked for the shelves to be spaced 3 inch's apart thinking i would reach in for the stamp i wanted but, i find I usually carry the tray to the table so. I'm thinking of asking to have more shelves added to it.

When I was first starting out I bought plastic serving trays from Walmart for about $1 each and used them to store all my Hero Arts. The trays were just about as deep as the stamps were tall, and I could see all the stamps easily and could stack the trays about 4 high on my bookshelves. After I got about 8 trays worth, I decided I wanted to better group them together like my SU stamps, so I bought the clamshell boxes from Stampmajick also. It's a more expensive solution, but if I ever want to sell the stamps I think I will get more out of them if they are in "sets".

Sorry, Brenda, I haven't looked back at this thread til now. Well, the nice thing about these box picture frames is that I can use just the tray and have the top open, like a regular tray, or I can take the white box part on the inside, cut away one big side of it, and use it like a tray instead of the acrylic. Then the acrylic piece acts like a cover for the white box.
Storing them in the box with the cover makes it possible to store them on their sides, like books on a bookcase. At one time I had like 20 of them lined along the counter in my room. Now I have them in stacks of no more than 4 or 5, lol. They do get heavy to rearrange, but since those are all of my non-SU sets, they don't get used as much so it's not a problem. My su sets are kept in alphabetical order, more or less.
All my stamps are sorted by categories and stored in SU! boxes. Unmounted in CD cases. I have a drawer(s) for each category (flowers, trees, flutterbys, people, etc.) I break-up the sets if applicable. I take the words out and place in the associated word drawer like Friends, Thinking of U, Love, etc.
The stamps are grouped in the boxes by similarites - all the small butterflys are together, daisys together, etc.
I also catalog the original sets so I know what should go together. I don't loose stamps and it helps me to not buy duplicates. It also helps me to get inspiration because I may have a certain flower in mind and then when I look through the drawer I see something that will work better.
Even though I have a catalog I only use it for "bookeeping" - I like "shopping" through my stamp drawers for inspiration. For some reason the catalog just doesn't inspire me.
I also have a misc drawer and this is where I keep the sets that have a variety of categories - like the little SU! truck set with all the parts.
I store all my unmounted stamps in those cute photo boxes that you can purchase from Mike's, hobby lobby or Joann's you can get them for about $2.50 then I contacted Gary online from Sunday International and had them cut me some 5 1/2 x 7 storage panel sheets so they fit right inside the box. The sheets are $0.50 very affortable! I have a box for each co. and from there I have them themed into catagories butterflies, outdoors, animals ect...I finally decided to unmount all my Stampin Up stamps and do it this way also. I just love the space I am saving up with this kind of system. ;)
I put EZ Mount stamps or my stamps with EZ Mount foam I have converted to on boards available from Sunday International. They are 3 hole punched so they go into an ordinary notebook from someplace like Staples and the notebook goes on my bookshelf with the name of the stamp categories on the spine (of the notebook.) Works great for storage.
