TLC160 Cuttlebug: The Negative Effect 3/17/08
Hello everyone!!! I am your guest hostess for this week's TLC!!! I can't tell you how excited I am and what an honor this is! Thank you Beth for having me guest hostess for you! Now, on to this week's TLC!
We all know what a great tool the Cuttlebug is for adding dimension, flair and dry embossing to our cards and projects, without a lot of work. Have you thought how you could kick it up a notch and add even more flair to your creations?
For this week’s TLC, we are going over to the NEGATIVE side of the Cuttlebug!! This is a simple and quick technique to do that will bring even more oh’s and ah’s on your creations. All you need for this technique is a Cuttlebug, or any type of embossing device, the embossing folders and whatever type of inks you want to use.
Here’s what you do:
1. Take your CB folder and open it up so the negative side is facing down on your table. This is the side where the CB logo is.
2. Using whatever color ink, and whatever type of ink, ink up the negative side using either a sponge, brayer or the ink pad itself if you are using spots or the petal chalk inks.
3. Lay your cardstock over your inked side, close the folder and run it through your CB. Make sure to wash your folder ASAP, to avoid any staining from the ink. I have not had a problem with this, as long as I wash it right away!
4. Voila!! Now you have an inked and embossed image to add that extra touch to your card!!
Remember, if you are using chalk or pigment inks, you will want to wait for them to dry before putting your panel on your card. You can also use your heat gun to help them dry, or even emboss them with embossing powder for even greater flair!!! The sky is the limit!!!
I have two samples here to inspire you. The first one uses SU!'s classic dye inks and the second one uses SU!'s white craft ink and clear ep.

Enjoy and I look forward to seeing what you come up with!!!

Do you have any options for people who don't have one of the die cut machines or embossing folders for this technique?

Not right at this moment I don't Jeanne! If I think of something I will add it to my OP. You really do need the embossing folders for this technique to work.
Anyone else have any ideas?

Thanks for this fun challenge Ann! I guess I had done it before, but not for a very long time. I really like the results, which in this case looks a lot like tooled leather. Please take a look and let me know what you think!

Can't wait
What an excellent idea! I would never have thought to do this!! Can't wait to try it when I get home from work tonight - no time now I need to leave in 5 mins! Just got to make sure I have no marking to do, so will have to try and get it all done in my lunchtime break.

Do you have any Fiskar plates? I guess that would work too. Just more work, since you have to use the what you ma call it tool

Oh Ann - I am so excited about this fun challenge and cant wait to try it out too! I just ordered 5 more of the new cuttlebug folders which cant seem to get here fast enough! lol. Hey-did you all know that you can use your zipemate machine with these folders? No need for a cuttlebug machine if you already own this one! The zipemate has been such a great investment for me as it works with most dies out there too! Its been like my best crafting friend!

I am always looking forward to the new challenge on a Monday. Unfortunately, I have to miss this one , I do not have a Cuttlebug (or any other kind of embossing machine). Perhaps next week will be one for me again...

Oh Ann, I cant wait to try this (new-to-me) challenge too! It sounds like so much fun. Just ordered 5 more of the new cuttlebug embossing folders but they just cant seem to get here fast enough! LOL. Hey- did everyone know that you can also use the zipemate machine with these CB embossing folders? Who needs a cuttlebug if you already own the zip-e-mate! It works with most dies out there too! Give it a try if you dont have the CB! It's been like my best crafting friend!

No cuttlebug here either - I keep talking myself out of getting one...hoping that STampin' Up might jump on the bandwagon. Loving all of your wonderful creations, however. Luck of the Irish to all of you!

No cuttlebug here so I guess I'll be sitting out this challenge. No problem though as I need to sew Easter dresses today. Can't wait to see what you all end up doing with the challenge
