WT148 - Don't Hide
Don't "hide" from this challenge! Lame I know...lol...my teenagers just roll their eyes. Today's ways to use it challenge is a little unique. I KNOW you're up to it though! Today we are going to find ways to use LEATHER. gasp! Leather, suede, rawhide cord, faux leather, faux suede...whatever! Just have fun with it! I love the texture and unique touch it adds. Now if you are really desparate...how about an image of cowboy boots...they are leather!
Please remember to put WT148 in your keywords section and post a link back here so that we can all see your designs! This is a challenge, not a competition and ALL are welcome. No time limits and you can upload as many new creations as you wish!
My sample using suede: Each Day Brings its Own Gifts
WT148 Gallery submissions:
Thanks for playing along! Have a fabulous day!

Cindy, I read this morning on her blog that if you were desperate you could use a cow stamp!
Anxious to see what everyone comes up with-should be interesting.
Thanks Julia.

GReat challenge. I just cut up my husband's old wallet and an old purse - both genuine leather, over the holidays since we got new ones. I just knew the pieces of leather would come in handy!!!

I'm going out of town today and can't play but wanted to link a past card here that shows a cool way to create faux leather. I used this technique on several Dirty Dozen projects back in Sept that show several great examples using faux leather and braiding and if you are a Fan Club member you can find these here and here. Kraft paper is great to work with for faux leather. It has a great texture and can be made to look like leather easily with distress ink. I used Tea Dye and Antique Photo on these examples. You can easily use your regular dye inks as well. I inked my cardstock up with the pad direct to the paper and got it really dark. For the braiding I cut thin little strips of cardstock after inking and ran each one across my scissors to soften them up. I secured three of them together with a piece of tape and secured them to my work counter so I could braid them. When I had as much as I wanted I secured the end with a piece of the inked up cardstock and glued. Then I secured the origanal end as well.
You can sponge on ink or use DTP technique to create a large piece of faux leather as well. You can't believe how real it looks if you use a sponge in a circular motion with distress ink and work over the cardstock after you have inked it. It glows like old leather. You can use a textured background such as Sanded or Itty Bitty bg on your paper as well to create the age lines or blemishes that you see in leather. You can create folders, portfolios, or just about anything and you cannot believe how real it can look. Another cool thing to do is to emboss your inked up cardstock with a cuttlebug folder and create a faux snake or allegator skin. This looks great for purse trims, belts, etc for your paper creations.
I sure hope you don't mind me popping in and writing all this. I discovered by accident how real you can make faux leather look if you take some time to work with it a little bit.

I decided to use the faux leather technique, since I do not have any leather to use. I have not been able to upload for a challenge in a while, so thanks for a great one! This was really fun...

Hi, everyone! Wow, Julia, this was great fun! LOL! (Had to go UNDER my bed to drag out the Cub Scout Stuff to find some suede lacing!) I had lots of "help" from Speedy the Cat and Spittie Kittie...LOL! (I'm so glad there aren't any Nanny Cams in my room! LOL! DH would get rich selling that video to America's Funniest! LOL!)

Oh, man! I'm sitting here reading through the comments and I was down to 18 before I realized the PUN in your title, Julia. LOL
I love this challenge. Here's an old one from my gallery - stamped on deer hide: http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/ga...0&ppuser=43494
Now, I'm off to make a new one. Thanks, Julia.

This was a fun challenge... And I like stated in my card description, this is actually a card made by my friend for me as a reminder of groundhog day ... or may for her birthday... LOL...they are the same day. Anyway, I thought the card worked great here.... so here's my friend's card...

I am going to play with this challenge more today, but my regular computer is out for maintenance and I don't know when I'll be able to scan and upload anything new, so I'm providing these links to a couple of cards that I uploaded for a previous Ways to Use It Challenge using tape. I made some faux leather for that challenge and loved the look. I may try to work with something different today (though I don't think I have any real leather.

My kids have a whole Rubbermaid tote full of leather that they use for leatherwork projects, so this will be fun! I am sad to say that I don't own a single Boho or Western-style stamp set, so my submission will have to be very creative, indeed! (Not that I don't love those sets. I just don't have any yet!) Off I go to think of something...
