My brother used to sing "my womple-t-jane" for "my local DJ" in a Beatles song -- I can't think of the song right now . . . .
My husband never realized the words in Elton John's song were "a howling old owl in the woods" -- I have no idea WHAT he thought those were. But we were at a concert and someone sang the song and he said "oh that's what he's saying".
I needed a laugh today -- thanks for sharing!

Ok, this is not a song, but it's such a sweet memory
We were raised Catholic and when I taught my daughters (one of whom is named Grace) to say the Hail Mary, she always recited , "Hail Mary, mother of Grace, the Lord is with me."
I still smile at the memory of my little one saying her prayers so earnestly!

I didn't read all the entries on this thread, so please forgive me if this is a repeat. My DS used to sing the last line in Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer as
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer...
you'll go down in MYSTERY!

Good greif I think I've been singing it that way for years and only realized it now...

Note to self: do not become Lizzie's friend at Christmas time. Fateful friends----bwahahahahaha!!!!!!!!
Has anyone heard that version of Jingle Bells where they sing, "Dashing through the snow in a 57 Chevrolet" then they sing it the right way? I thought I'd heard it wrong, but they did it over & over.

My Dad taught me an 'alternative' first verse to the We Three Kings carol when I was little. Got me in sooo much trouble with the choirmaster!
We three Kings of Orient are
One in a taxi, one in a car
One on a scooter
Blowing his hooter
Following Ringo Starr!!

I think that song is called Rusty Chevrolet. Here's part of it:
Rust and smoke
The heater broke
The door just blew away
I light a match
To see the dash
And then I start to pray
frame is bent
the muffler went
the radio it's ok.
oh what fun it is to drive this rusty chevrolet!
I can't remember all of it, but it's my favorite Christmas song. I wished the radio would PLAY the song sometime soon instead of some of the other ones I'm getting!

DS would always sing "Rudolph with your nose so bright, won't you GUARD my sleigh tonight" when he was younger. DH & I would always giggle (picturing Santa in the seedy side of town)

Oh, that sounds funny! The one I heard is in this link: http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/bria...4/lyrics.jhtml
I even misheard it when I thought I didn't! That's bad!

How pathetic I am. I didn't even hear the line right that I THOUGHT was right! That's twice now in this thread! I figured out it's a part of Home for the Holidays that I never paid attention to. It's in this part:
Take a bus, take a train
Go and hop an aeroplane
Put the wife and kiddies in the family car
For the pleasure that you bring
When you make that doorbell ring
No trip could be too far
That line is the one I thought FIRST was "when you make a Taco Ring" THEN, knowing that couldn't be right, I thought it was "when you make an offering." Um, nope, it's doorbell ring!

lol - that's fab
I remembered the other one we used to sing as kids. To the tune of Jingle Bells:
Jingle Bells, Batman smells
Robin laid an egg
The Batmobile lost a wheel
on the motorway, hey!
(Motorway being the UK version of a freeway - I think!)

This thread is giving me a good laugh. My daughter's name is Elise and when she was younger during Christmas the song "Feliz Navidad" was playing she got so mad at the radio and stood up and said I am not EliseNavidad I am Elise Noel. So now every year we tease her with Elise Navidad and Elise Cumpleanos.

Okay I am in stitches! These are SO funny! I remember the we 3 kings version that pootle listed and I was going to tell the Jingle bells one, mine is a little different...obviously came from another part of the UK
Jingle Bells, Batman smells
Robin flew away
Santa Clause, lost his draws
on the M1 motorway
Tee hee, I told this to my 8 year old daughter yesterday as she was making up silly songs with her friends at school. Deos this make me a bad mother?!
(Draws being underwear and motorway is a freeway!)

Remembered another one...this is my youngest daughter. She always wanted the Achew (like sneezing) song on in the car. Took me a while to figure out which one she meant but it was Robbie Williams "I can't li-i-ive this without you" (ou-choo) hahaha!
Now I'm on a mission to remember more

Not sure what song this is in
But in the middle it goes "We be Jammin' We be Jammin' We be Jammin'
and from the backseat I hear my 4 year old say..."I love the wimpy jamas song" (Wimpy pajamas). I still crack up every time I hear the song.
My mom used the love the song "Lay down Sally", when she thought it said "way down south." Once I corrected her, she didn't like the song anymore.

My mom taught me this version of We 3 Kings:
We 3 kings of Orient are
Smoking on a loaded cigar
Puff! Boom!
We 2 kings of Orient are
Smoking on a loaded cigar
Puff! Boom!
We 1 king of orient are
Smoking on a loaded cigar
Puff! Boom!
Silent Night.

My daughter just reminded me of what she used to think the lyrics were in "12 Days of Christmas." She thought instead of 3 French Hens it was 3 Henchmen! She didn't know what henchmen were, though. My dh said, "That's not something you want on Christmas!"

Hehehehe...these are cute.
I had a friend in college who used to sing the Here Comes The Rain Again song by the Eurythmics "Here comes the rain again, Falling on my head like a memory"
Like this.....Here comes the rain again, falling on my head like a mammory!!!

Another Lizzie Song
slight hijack:
My grammie used to have an LP of children's songs (think back 35+ years ago). It had Aiken Drum and old songs like that on it. There was one with a chorus that went, "Go get the ax, there's a bee in Lizzie's ear and a boy's best friend is his mother". I don't right off remember anything else about that song, but grammie's name was Lizzie so I think that's why I remember it at all.
