Default Crockpot Recipes?

Okay, now that we are heading into the cooler months, it's time to start using the crock pot. Does anyone have any great recipes they want to share? I would love to get some new ones!

Awesome idea. There are probably a few floating around on splitcoast somewhere. But here's a link to Julia S' blog where she shared a couple and there are more in the comments:

Inrgedients:

2TBS oil

1/4 cup flour
1/2 cup dry red wine, or red cooking wine
1/2 cup chicken broth

1/2 tsp dried thyme leaves

Directions:

Add onions to bottom of slow cooker stoneware. Add chicken, and then top chicken with remaining ingredients. Cover; cook on low 7 to 9 hours (High 4 to 5 hours)

I had this at a dinner and have since adopted it as my favorite crockpot thing of all time. The gal got the recipe from her mom who called it Southern Style Pork
4-6 thick pork chops or part of a tenderloin sliced into 3/4 to 1" sliced
1/3 Cup Flour
1 tsp Dried Mustard
1/2 tsp. Garlic Powder or Garlic Salt
1/2 tsp Salt (Omit if you used Garlic Salt)
1 Medium to Large White/Yellow Onion
1 Can Cream of Mushroom Soup
1 container of mushrooms (optional)
2 Tbsp. Oil

1. Put flour, mustard, garlic and salt in bag and mix.
2. Shake porkchops or sliced in bag of flour mixture.
3. Brown dredged chops in oil and throw into crockpot.
4. Throw onions and mushrooms in on top of chops in crockpot.
5. Empty can of soup into crockpot.
6. Fill soup can with water and pour into still hot frying pan and turn up heat. Use wooden spoon or spatula to loosen bits from bottom of pan. When pan seems clean, just a minute is all it takes, pour the water over the porkchops.
7. This cooks in four hours on low, or if you leave it on all day the meat will literally be falling apart.
8. The only thing I've done is sometimes I add some GravyQuik or something like that as my husband isn't crazy about pale gravy, and once I added too much water or something and the gravy was very thin so I put in a couple TBSP of Wondra flour (the fine kind) and turned it on high for about ten minutes and it thickened the gravy.

This is my husband's absolute favorite next to pot roast. Just whip up some mashed potatoes and there are happy people.

Margaret

ps. I do take off the cover at least once and stir things around.

Default CheeseBurger Soup!

Cheese Burger Soup!

1 TO 2 pound of hamburger
3/4 c chopped onion
3/4 c shredded carrots (or diced)
3/4 c diced celery
1 tsp dried basil
1 tsp dried parsley flakes
4 Tblsp butter or marg
3 cups chicken broth
4 cups diced peeled potatoes
1/4 cup flour
8 oz american cheese (cubed 2 cups)
1 1/2 c milk
3/4 tsp salt
1/4 to 1/2 tsp pepper
1/4 c sour cream

In a 3 qt sauce pan brown hanburger, Drain and set aside.
In the same sauce pan saute onion, carrots, celery, basil and parsley, in 1 Tbsp butter until veggies are tender.
About 10 minutes. Add broth, potatoes, and hamburger, bring to a boil. Reduce heat and cover simmer for 10-12 min. or until potatoes are tender.
Mean while in a small skillet melt butter. Add flour cook and stir 3-5 minutes or till bubbley. Add to soup bring to a boil. Cook and stir for 2 minutes. Reduce heat to low. Add milk, cheese, salt and pepper. Cook and stir until cheese melts. Remove from heat, blend in sour cream.
Yield 2 1/4 quarts.

This looks like it is very difficult and takes alot but it really doesn't. And the reward when finished is well worth it. My family usually eats it all. The last time I made this I forgot to take the extra steps. What I did was brown the hamburger, and dump all the ingredients in my crock pot. I diced my potatoes and boiled them for 10 minutes and then dumped the water and potatoes into the crock pot and simmered it for 8 hours. It turned out so delicious we were wishing there was more. Sometimes I leave the carrots and celery out and add more potatoes. But any receipe can be tweeked to your likings. Enjoy!

Here is one from our grocery store that I LOVE.. I'm not a huge fan of meat in the crock pot but omg this is SOOOOOOOO good
I change tho some of it..
Ingredients
1/4 cup + 2 tablespoons flour, divided
1 boneless beef chuck roast (about 3 lbs)
1/4 cup canola oil
1 (10.5-ounce) can condensed French onion soup ( I use Progresso French Onion soup.. richer taste and it is a bigger can but it is ok too
1 (1-ounce) packet dry onion soup mix ( I put in sometimes Golden onion soup mix instead of just the plain one to add more flavor )
1 (4-ounce) can mushroom pieces (drained)

Steps
1. Preheat large sauté pan on medium-high 2–3 minutes. Place 1/4 cup of the flour on plate (may be paper). Dredge roast in flour, coating both sides.
2. Place oil in large sauté pan; swirl to coat. Add roast (wash hands); cook 4 minutes on each side to brown. Transfer roast to slow cooker; place slow cooker heat setting to low.
3. Reduce heat on large sauté pan to medium-low. Stir remaining 2 tablespoons flour into drippings in pan; cook 1 minute, stirring until smooth. Stir in soup, dry soup mix, and mushrooms; bring to a boil. Transfer soup mixture to slow cooker.
4. Cook 8–10 hours or until meat pulls apart easily with a fork.

Also depending on your crockpot I end up just cooking it on low for 4-5 hours because of it cutting differently

I can't wait to try the Cheeseburger soup! I have one to share also:

Chicken Stroganoff

In the crock pot put:

4 boneless skinelss chicken breasts cut into chunks
1/2 cube butter or margarine
1 pkg. dry Italian Dressing mix (like Good Seasons)
Turn the crock pot on low for 5 hours.

After the time is up add:
1 block of cream cheese
1 can cream of chicken soup

After about 10-15 minutes it will be all melted and you give it a good stir to mix well. We served it over egg noodles, but you could use rice also.
YUMMY!!!

This is a great thread, I was just thinking the other day that I need more recipes for my CP. I am one step up from Lizzie hahaha! I actually DON'T like the premade CP dinners because of all the onion Blah!
My friend introduced me a few years ago to...
Easy Cheesy Chicken
2 cans of Campbells Cream of chicken soup
One can of Campbells chedder soup
Mix them together in a bowl (even I can do that!!!)

Place desired amount of frozen chicken breast or tenders in the bottom of the CP and put over the soups. Cook on low for about 6 hours.

VOILA!

It is SO tasty. I have mine with wide egg noodles. I love how the chicken just falls apart - YUM!
I have made it with Mushroom soup instead of the chedder soup and that's yummy too...just not AS yummy

Subbing!!!

Taco Soup
1 large can of diced tomatoes
1 large can of tomato sauce
1 package taco seasoning
1 can whole kernel corn (do not drain)
1 lb hamburger, turkey, etc browned
1 medium onion (chopped)
2 Tbsp Chili powder

Put all ingrediants in a crock pot and let it go! (I usually put it on low and let it go all day. If I'm in a hurry, I'll put it on high and let it go for about 4 hours). Top with Fritos, sour cream and shredded cheddar cheese.

Beef Roast
~ Beef Roast (size really doesn't matter as long as it fits in your crock pot!) Sear (brown the outside) of the roast in a skillet. This seals in the flavor and juices.
~ Carrots (I just dump in a small bag of baby carrots)
~ Potatoes (cubed)
~ Onion (chopped)
~ Beef Bullion (either one large bullion or 2 small)
~ Pour about 1/2 can (or enough to just cover the bottom of the crock pot) of Dr Pepper, Pepsi, Coke, etc (a dark soda) into the crock pot

Let simmer all day. I've made this MANY times and it is SO EASY but SUCH a hit!!! The soda really gives it the added flavor and, in my personal opinion, makes the meat really tender. It just falls apart. YUMMY!!!!

Taco Soup is one of my favorite. In fact I got it from Weight Watchers and if you don't add the "extra" stuff (like the cheese, sour cream, and fritos) it is only 1 pt on Weight Watchers and is still delicious.

I am going to have to try the Beef Roast. Thanks for the great ideas everyone, keep them coming please! I need new dinner ideas!

I made Italian Chicken in the Crockpot the other night.

4 boneless chicken breasts
1/2 stick butter, melted
1 pkt of Italian dressing mix
8 oz Cream cheese
1 can Cream of Chicken soup

Place chicken in Crock pot, Pour melted butter over top and sprinkle with dressing mix. Cook on low for about 4 hours.

Mix soup and cream cheese together in a bowl. Pour into Crockpot and mix with juices to combine. Cook for another 30 - 45 minutes. Serve over Egg Noodles.

************************************************

Saucy Maple Style Ribs

1.5 lbs Country style ribs
1/3 C Maple Syrup (PLEASE use the REAL stuff and not pancake syrup that's just corn syrup and maple flavor it makes a HUGE difference!)
1 TBS Soy Sauce
2 TBS onion
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1/4 ground ginger
1/4 tsp all spice
1/4 tsp garlic powder
dash pepper

Place ribs in Crockpot, top with onion. Mix remaining ingredients together and pour over ribs. Cover and cook 7 - 9 hours.

My most favorite crockpot meal (probably 'cuz it's so easy)...

a boneless pork loin (I use anywhere from 2 to 4 lbs, depending on what's in the freezer)
1 packet of dry onion soup mix
1 can of coke (NOT diet!)

Put the loin in the crockpot. Pour the coke over it. Sprinkle the soup mix on top and around. Cook on low 6-8 hours. Thicken the sauce at the end 'cuz it's yummy!

I *heart* my crockpot!!!

Now this is my kind of thread! I need all the help I can get in the kitchen! LOL! I just had to jump in and share this recipe... it's super easy and soooo good!

3-5 chicken breasts (2-3 if they're really big)
1 can whole berry cranberry sauce
1 cup barbeque sauce

Put all ingredients in crock on high for 3-4 hours or on low for 5-6 hours. I serve it with mashed potatoes sweet corn on the cob! I call this Jen's Cranberry Chicken because the recipe came from my friend Jen (JJStamper here on SCS).

Can't wait to try some of the other recipes that have been shared!

Hmmm, I am a CPer, too! I can't wait to try some of y'alls recipes. Here is one of our favorites - with a bonus!

White Chicken Chili

2 cans Great Northern Beans (drained)
2 cans of White Hominy (drained)
2 small cans diced green chilis
2 cans of reduced fat cream of mushroom soup
1 packet of low sodium taco seasoning
2-3 good size chicken breasts

Combine all but chicken and stir in crock pot. Add chicken breasts to top of soup mixture, cook 4-6 hours on high. Shred chicken with fork and stir into the soup mixture.

Serve garnished with shredded cheddar, sour cream and slivered green onions. I always serve this with Beer Bread - I promise if you like the home party mix kind, you'll lOVE this, and it might cost you all of a dollar - including the beer!

Beer Bread (any carbonated beverage will work)

3 cups SELF RISING Flour
1/4 cup sugar
1 egg
1 room temp 12 oz. beer - any brand
1/2 stick butter

Mix flour and sugar, add beer and slightly beaten egg. Stir til all ingredients are wet and lumpy. Put into a large bread loaf pan. Melt butter and pour over the top. Bake at 350 for 45-50 minutes until golden brown on top. Pull from oven and let stand 10 minutes before dumping from pan and slicing.

My crock pot is my favourite kitchen appliance - I have 3 and use them all frequently.

Here's a great dessert for in the crock pot - be warned it disspears quickly!

Caramel-Apple Pudding Cake

1 cup all purpose flour
1/3 white sugar
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp cardamom & dash of cinnamon OR 1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 cup milk
2 tbs cooking oil
1/2 cup chopped pecans
1/2 cup dried apple or pear pieces
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 cup water
1 cup apple juice
2 tablespoons margerine or butter
1 tablespoon finely chopped crystallized ginger (or 1 tsp ground ginger)

Mix flour, sugar, baking powder, spices, milk & oil. Stir in the nuts & dried fruit. Spread the batter evenly on the bottom of a 3.5 or 4 quart slow cooker.

In a small saucepan combine brown sugar, water, apple juice, butter and ginger. Bring to boiling. Boil for 2 minutes. Pour mixture evenly over the batter in the slow cooker.

Cover and cook on high for 2 to 2.5 hours (low 4-5 hours) until a toothpick inserted 1" into the center of the cake come out clean.

Serve with ice cream if desired.

Thanks ladies for the yummy recipes, here's an easy one.

One whole chicken (what ever size that fits into your CP) washed and cleaned. Sprinkle salt and pepper inside and stuff with one stalk of celery, one small onion and apple cut into quarters, fresh rosemary and sage. Rub chicken skin with butter and place in CP cook on low for 8 to 10 hours. Discard the stuffing before serving. Hint prep chicken the night before and refrigerate takes a couple of minutes to put in CP and your out the door in no time.

Here is my favorite crock pot recipe
Green Chili Burritos
1 can diced tomatoes
1 can green chilies
2 pork chops (or left over pork roast (cubed) is good too)

cook on low for 8 hours, shred the meat, laddle into tortillas. roll up and top with cheese. I do mine right on the plate and stick under the broiler to melt the cheese. You can use a toothpick to keep the tortilla closed. (this is when it is just me and the hubby) for a family, my mom always put the tortillas into a 9 x 12 pan and rolled them, open side down, topped with cheese and then melt in the oven. It sound like a lot of work as I'm typing it, but it goes super fast and is well worth it! This amount fed me and the hubby for two meals, it is easy to make more.

my fave recipe lately is a savory pork roast

pork butt roast
1-can ro-tel tomatoes and chilies (we prefer the milder or mexican kind)
garlic cloves to taste (we like garlic, so 3-4)
salt and pepper to taste

Cook on low 6 or more hours. Serve with mexican brown rice and some steamed veggies or shred and make into burros...delish!

my CP cooks pretty hot, but I start this in the am before church and this is succulent and falling apart by mid afternoon, cook it as long as you like, it just gets more flavorful and falls apart ...yummy!

Default Super Easy Beef Roast

Crockpot Beef Roast

slice an onion and put in bottom of crockpot
put frozen beef roast on top of onion
add about 2 inches of water (can substite beef broth or V8 juice if desired)
season top of roast if desired
add potatoes, carrots, celery, garlic and more onion if you want
cook on low all day or high half the day

I usually cook this roast minus the veggies and will seve it with rice, noodles or mashed potatoes.

I love making this because I can pop the roast in frozen as I often forget to thaw things. The frozen method also works for pork and chicken recipes.
