Thank you, thank you for all your hard work doing this for all of us.

I have only had my Cuttlebug for a couple of weeks, and had no die cut system before, so I was pretty clueless about using other brands with this system.

Then, this evening, someone sent me to Sizzix because they are having a great clearance on their embossing folders. I bought a whole bunch of them, and this information will really help me when they arrive.

Thanks again.

I have a question... what exactly is a plumbers gasket...?? can you give me an idea of what to look for? I would like to try my fiscars embossing plates in my die cutting machine to see if I can get a half decent image...before they hit the "sell" pile--since I got the CB embossing folders.... TIA !!

I'm with Kelly on this one, I have some of the Fiskars Texture Plates and wonder if anyone has been able to get a good emboss using the Cuttlebug!

plumbers gasket is basically a rubber sheet material found in the plumbing repair dept of your hardware/home store. You can layer it according to the directions on the "sandwich stack" thread (author Cat).
You will get an impression from the plate on your cardstock, but it will be a textured or softer look than with the cuttlebug embossing folders.
the cuttlebug embossing folders lend themselves to a deep emboss because it has a positive and negative impression as rolled through the machine. And the texture plates grooves are not as deep either. Keep this in mind, and you should be happier with the results.

I have a Spellbinder Wizard and have a blue embossing sheet that is basically made of stiff foam for thicker embossing plates. I sometimes have to mist the paper a bit to get a better impression when using other brands with my Wizard. Still love the end results!

Is this what the table means by Wizard Pad? From this machine?

I don't think that is what mine is called, but I would imagine it must be the same thing for other machines?

I'm so psyched, I just tried using the Cuttlebug with my Fiskars Texture plates. I had ordered the charm embossing kit for the Spellbinder Wizard from Joann.com, and it came today. Here is the sandwich I used: Plate A, texture plate, cardstock, tan polymer pad AND black pad (both from the embossing kit i ordered), Plate B. I ran it through and it embossed! Granted it is not a very deep emboss but it shows! I'm thrilled. The fabric texture looks like the SU rough texture wheel, only 3D! LOL Thanks again for this thread.

Hmmm... I have tried the mousepad method and it isn't working :(
When I called Provocraft they told me that brass stencils wouldn't work with the CB...
I am so discouraged!

The mousepad method didnt work really well for me either. I had better luck using the rubber gasket sheet.

Many on these boards have used the mousepad method for brass stencils. Try reviewing the Cuttlebugitis thread (I know, it's HUGE, but it has absolutely TONS of good tips) for more info.

What? Okay I knew you could use the cuttlebug dies in the sizzix. And I knew the sizzlets dies would work in the cuttlebug. But, I did not know you could use the reg thicker sizzix dies in the cuttlebug!!! Now I need to figure out how I can get one of these bugs without my dh knowing. Lol! I already, have a sizzix, a sidekick, quickutz, and the cricut.

I went to AC Moore today and bought more Fiskars texture plates (the II collection). Im loving these things! Tonight I tried them without the black rubber pad (just used Plate A, fiskars plate, cardstock, the tan pad, and Plate C instead of B). I found that it was a little more difficult to push through using plate C (probably because I'm a weakling), but the emboss was more pronounced. The confetti texture plate is SO cool! My cards will be so much more interesting. They are rather flat and boring now.

Hi all,

I'm really new to the Cuttlebug experience and I am buying my machine on Monday. Thanks to everyone who has submitted all the info on SCS - you have all been really helpful and the examples in the gallery are gorgeous!

I have downloaded the Sandwich Stack rules and just wanted to know if I'm reading them correctly.

In the first example on the list (Cuttlebug dies) - Plate "A", Plate "B", die, Cardstock, Plate "B". Does this mean that plate A is at the bottom of the stack, then comes B, then die, then cardstock, and lastly 2nd plate B is on the top? Just wanted to make sure I was thinking it through correctly before I destroy any cardstock or indeed, my new toy!

Cheers,

I have the Fiskars plates, and I'm a bit confused. What is the wizard? What is the black rubber pad- the plumbers gasket stuff? And where does the tan pad come from?
Worst of it is- I have my new bug, Fiskars plates, and I don't how to use them! Don't want to hurt my wee bug! It's killing me!
Thanks for any help- and the stack file will be great when I get into this!

The wizard is another diecut/embossing machine (actually Spellbinder Wizard). It has an accessory kit you can buy for embossing using brass templates. I found that I wasted my money on it because I only needed the tan pad that comes with it. It is like an 1/8th inch thick rubber sheet about the size of a card front (and it STINKS!! Whew what a smell). From what I've read you can buy the rubber sheet at the hardware store (called plumber's gasket). The kit also came with a black rubber sheet about the same size and also a thick hard blue pad that won't fit through the bug. So I spent 9 bux on a small sheet of rubber!! I would try going to Home Depot or somewhere like that and buy different thicknesses of the rubber and try it.

Great, thanks! I bought the Fiskars plates because I had heard they could be used in the CB, and I was looking everywhere for one. The results from Fiskars plates are a bit pathetic on their own, so I hope the bug makes 'em all better!

Hi all,

I now have my CB and some folders and have been enjoying using it.

I thought I would try out the Fiskars texture plates and brass stencils. We don't have plumbers gasket here in Australia (at least I couldn't find it!), so I bought 1.5mm thick sheet rubber. It wouldn't go into the machine as it was too thick and that was the thinnest I could find. Also tried the brass stencils with a mousepad and the pad was also too thick to go into the machine.

I was wondering if any of the Aussie gals have had success in finding suitable materials to use these other mediums.

I'm contemplating buying the Wizard embossing kit, but I was also wondering if the Wizard dies are able to be used on the CB? I really like the look of them.

Cheers,
Irene

This is a great list! That looks like it was a fair amount of work. Thanks! I have a question though. These "sandwiches" seem to be for people who have the CB and want to use other dies or EFs with it. What if you want to use the CB dies with a Sizzix? I know that the CB EFs will work just with the Sizzix, just by using the Sizzlits adapter, but I'm not sure about the dies. Did I miss something?

I tried ordering The Big Shot Big impressions Starter Kit from allthatscraps.com, because I have Fiskars Templates I want to use with my Cuttlebug. I just received an email from them: This is what it said:
"The Big Shot Big impressions Starter Kit and Kits 1, 2, and 3 have been
discontinued. I was not aware that they were being discontinued. I have
checked with a few vendors plus the manufacturer and there are none left. I will not be able to get anymore in stock. The Customer Service person I talked to at Ellison/Sizzix told me that the Sizzix Texturz Starter Kit replaces the Big Impressions Starter Kit."

Cat, can you tell me if this Sizzix Texturz Starter Kit will work in the places where your document suggests using the Big Shot Big impressions Starter Kit?

Thanks,
LM :-)

Your post was the first I've heard of the STSK [just what we need, another acronym!]

I'll do some research and see if I can find anything. Any body else know?

Thanks Cat. When I got the email, I figured you and others would be interested to know this. :-) LM
