Default Who can create a watermark?

cause I can't seem to get it right...

I have PSE 2.0 and I've done tutorials....I've tried following the directions people have given here on SCS...I just can't seem to get it right for some reason... I know that I can't seem to get the copyright symbol right since I don't have a numeric keypad (I only have a laptop).....

Is there anyone who can help me out? I will take ownership of the fact that I am an idiot... who can't create something this simple.....

guess I won't get started with digiscrapping anytime soon...

thanks!!

I love Emily's watermark too. I don't have any special software though, and can't find a way to create one with what is on my computer.

I have Microsoft Picture It! Photo 2002, and I know how to insert text into my image. But I haven't figured out if there's a way to change the opacity (I think that's the right term) so that it's watermark-y looking, instead of just plain ol' black text (or whatever color text I choose). Does anyone know?

Kimberly needs to sell custom watermarks like she did with the handwriting fonts!

Haha....

Okay, this is a SUPERfast tutorial. I am NOT selling them, as I have NO spare time!!! LOL!

Open a new empty file in Photoshop. I don't know other programs, so this is Photoshop specific.

Type your text like Cards by Cutie or whatever.
Reduce the opacity of that layer in the layers palette to about 45% or whatever you want. You can make multiple text layers with various opacities if desired.

When finished save it as a .png file. This retains the transparency of the original file. Now you can copy and paste it into your images.

Alternately, you can click Edit and "Define Brush Preset" and make it a brush if you know how to use those!

P.S. The reason I don't sell watermarks is because if you don't know how to make/save a .png file in your photo program you probably won't be able to USE the .png file after it is made I apologize in advance that I won't make/sell them. I promise it is super simple in Photoshop if you follow those steps!

I can attest to that. An SCS pal made me one and I have NO clue how to use it. LMBO!

Kimberley - Will your instructions for Photoshop work in Photoshop Elements too? I am thinking of buying this software package.

Ok, I think I'm making progress on this watermark issue - I have created my .png file but how in the world do you cut/paste it into the photo? I understand the concept of layers to my files but how do you import it or make the watermark a layer????

I feel extra stupid because I use to do graphic design about 8-9 years ago (that was when Photoshop 3.0 was new!)

I just got around to creating a new one (actually more than one)for me yesterday - there are 3 uploads in my gallery. Now I have the 'pita' task of re-editing all my painting photos and relaunching my website....you girls think you have problems with stealing of card samples...you can't even begin to imagine the theft (and justifiable loss of income) that I experience in the decorative/fine art world!
...anyway, I will not digress and start growling about that

I can help those of you who have Photoshop 7 and do know a bit of your way around it - as Kimberly said...to use it properly you do have to know enough about the program or having one will be useless to you. The format I used was a somewhat lengthy, layered approach but still just step by step. There are many ways to create watermarks using these programs.

I can also tutor in Paintshop Pro - altho I used PS now I used to use PSP more and can figure out a step by step in that one too.

...if you don't have these programs try a google "creating watermarks using "X" program" and see if anything turns up that will guide you through it

Is your file on a transparent layer? If so open it, and open your card pic. Click on the watermark to bring it to the top, use the marquee tool to outline it (marching ants) go up to edit, copy. Click on your card pic to bring it forward, go up to edit, paste - your watermark should appear over your card, then use the move tool to put it where you want it.

...funny thing about these programs, unless you use them all the time I find it is so easy to forget your way around them and what each tool can do - last year I was making animated gifs., this year it took me all morning to get my watermarks to look like I wanted them to! Priorities change I guess!

I have been struggling with getting it to work as a .png file to copy and paste onto the card and your directions make perfect sense! I now have it saved and have successfully watermarked a card!

I am subscribing to this too.

I would seriously pay someone to make one for me in my plain, old Microsoft Photo Editor that came along free with the Microsoft stuff.

I am not really interested in buying a photo software program because my cards are the only pics I would want to edit, the rest I send to Wal-Mart for printing...
I have literally spent hours and hours of my precious time at work (haha) trying ot make a watermark

Glad I could help - these programs are sooooooo 'frusterating'...and then it is so easy once you learn the right steps in the right order!

A watermark would be useless to you with that program. Just like we layer our cards, these programs work on the layer principle as well. There is no function in MS Photo Editor to do this...you have some ability to play with/adjust your pics but no layering and no text ability (at least on mine there isn't)

you can download free trials of more sophisicated programs that would allow you to do this, but that is only a short term solution. There might be some freeware out there also, I just don't know...but you need something that uses layers and has text that can be manipulated.

I have downloaded Emily's font and will be glad to make watermarks for anyone (FOR FREE) that has a program to open them. I use PhotoImpact 10. Just let me know what color you would like and the name. You can email me in my profile.

JMCDA!

I love your explanation! Perfect analogy!!!

For those without PhotoShop, perhaps try this layers approach in MS Word or Appleworks/Apple's Keynote? (Without saving the watermark as a .png file...just typing over your photo with a font colour in a shade of grey.)

I figured out how to put text on top of my photo in my Paint program.

I have my picture open, then select the text box. There are two options that you can select (in my program they are on the left, underneath the tool bar). Select the one on the bottom, the one that has the see-through background behind the green square). This makes your text box transparent, so it doesn't cover up any of your image.

If you go to Help, then type in text, it will show you how to do it too.

This may not the watermark that most of you are looking for, but this is the only one I have found with the simple programs that I have on my computer.

Enjoy.

Mac users without PhotoShop: I was doing some research on watermarks, and several reputable Mac sites recommend iWatermark. I believe you can download a 30-day trial version. Here's an article that talks about this application; Macworld review.

Else, like I said above; try the 'layers' approach in Appleworks in a Drawing document.

I found this website that has the instructions for making a copyright symbol. http://bermangraphics.com/tips/copyright-symbol.htm

Here is the text from it:
A frequently asked question on the graphics forums is how to create the copyright symbol so you can add it to your image as a text layer in a graphics program.
The short answer is:
ALT+0169 (using the numeric keypad) for the PC
Option G for the MAC.
In Windows you can also use the Character Map, which is especially useful if you're working on a laptop because there is no numeric keypad. It's located under Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Character Map.
An even easier way is to do a quick web search for the copyright symbol, copy and paste it into the application. You can even create a small text file containing the copyright symbol and open to copy and paste.
You can copy and paste the copyright symbol below. The font size is 36 so it might need to be reduced in the document you're working on.

I don't have PaintShop Pro, but did a google search and found this:
Paint Shop Pro Tutorials -- Watermarking Photographs

I hope that helps! Let us know if it's easy to follow and if you have any success.

subscribing to this thread, I've played around with this and have figured out how to add text but not really the watermark thing yet. I'm using Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0.

...I'll come back and read through all the posts but for now I must get back to studying for my insurance license exam - Argh! I'm on a little ''break''.
I did download the cool Susie's Hand font that Emily uses. It's sooooo pretty!

I second that Triple THANK YOU - when you gave the directions I was thinking 'oh yeah - I forgot about that little tool to copy/paste my other layer'.

I also agree with the 'if you don't use it, you lose it' mentality with graphic arts of any kind.

Thanks again!!
