TFS! I am extremely bow-challenged and this will help a lot. I also recommend the Bow Easy template -- 7 different sized bows, all made the same way. You only have to figure it out once! LOL
Thanks so much for your kind and generous remarks.
Here is how this bow is done:
The bow is threaded through holes made with a double slot punch. Have you done the one where you insert the ribbon from the top and then thread the ends of the ribbon back through? Well, to create this look, instead of inserting the ends back through, you push the center of the tail back through and pull up as much as you want to make the loops on each side. I use about 8 inches of ribbon and I push it through with the blade of my scissors. Then you finish off by pushing the ends up through the holes and adjusting them to the position you want before trimming them off. This is a pretty tight fit through the holes. I hope this is somewhat clear. It does better with organdy but as you can see on my card, it can be done with grograin as well.
One day I might take the time to write a tutorial with pictures but don't have time today.
thanks for sharing your technique -it's a great bow~

I am so glad I found this thread. You have made my day with this tutorial. I think I have used a mile of ribbon in the past month trying to get 1 good looking bow. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Christine
Hooray, I finally did it - I made the bow after reading the tutorial several times. It really is pretty simple - but then anything is simple when you know how to do it.
Now, I have a question - I have done a search for the double punch that is used to make this bow and I find that they come in 1/2", 3/8" or 1/4" openings. Most of my ribbon is 3/8" or 1/2", so if using wider ribbon can you not use these punches? Also, some of the punches have a wider space between the punched openings . . . help please!!!

Shirley, the punch that I use has two slots which are 1/4 inch long and 1/4 inch apart. I use it with 1/4 inch grosgrain. It also works great with 3/8 to 1/2 inch organdy ribbon.
I can't figure out how to edit my last reply (I'm not goind real well today!). I forgot to ask, there only ONE layer of ribbon on the front between the two slots? One has only one layer, the other one I did has a more puffy look because I've crossed the ribbon over on the front and the back. HELP!

No matter how you tie bows, I find that you use less ribbon (a $$ saver) when you tie with your ribbon still on the spool. You'll use less ribbon which is even more important when you are doing a LOT of cards.
It also helps when you're trying to tie square knots. No more trying to remember...."did I do RIGHT first or LEFT?". Just remember to tie the short side over the top & BAM! You've got a square knot because it automatically alternates the ribbon.
I've made a "faux bow" before, but never with the loops and tails like this one. I am a visual learner, so after a few missed tries I finally got it and took a few pictures of the process to share with other visual learners.
Hello and thank you for the great bow-tying tips. Here is yet another one that I have been making for a while. It is good if you just cannot get to grips with bow-tying or do not have a small slot punch. Hope you can follow my attached directions. Mariana

Mariana, This is such a cute little bow! I'm printing your directions off to keep on hand the next time I need a quick bow for a card.
I do like the look of your "Faux Bow" and shall try it next time I'm bow-making. Should imagine it would lend itself to any time of ribbon especially the satine ones. Love your blog. Mariana.

This is what I do. Punch two holes, take your ribbon, in the middle of the ribbon make two loops, leaving a ribbon tail, push one loop thru a hole, do same with other loop. Cross loops over in back and push thru the holes. Adjust in the front. Works great with wired ribbon. I am just terrible at giving directions so I suppose this is as clear as mud, lol.
finally tried this little beauty and it is lovely! A little like rubbing your tummey and patting your head--you have to pay attention, but it turned out great on the first try! many thanks to all!
