Our little scrapping group is setting up a table for the fall bazaar. Does anyone have suggestions on displaying our cards? The card carousels for sale on e-bay tend to be a little pricey once you factor in the shipping. We need something we can construct ourselves but makes our cards show off well. Any suggestions are welcome!

I have seen where people take a block of wood, stain it and drill small holes in the top. Then using wire, stick pieces in the holes and coil the wire to hold the cards. It is an inexpensive way to display your cards. Hope this makes sense and helps. And good luck with your fall bazaar.

Someone suggested a rack that you can get at Wal-mart that is made for bowl lids? I'm going to check that idea out.

I used the lids of those photo storage boxes that you can buy just about anywhere. They were all black, so they showed off the cards nicely. People just flipped through and chose the ones they liked. The cards, together with an envelope, were in a plastic bag from clearbags.com, so they wouldn't get wrecked when people looked at them. If anything was stamped inside, I stamped it on a scrap piece of paper and slipped it into the back.

I read some where in this post about making color it and paint it kits. Does anyone have any details on what goes into these kits and what price they sold for?

We used cd holder crates from AC Moore. The ones made of wood that look like the larger crates of the same materials? The size is perfect, and it's easy for people to flip through them. They were pretty cheap too!

I sold my cards for $2.75 each or 6 for $15.00 (canadian prices, but the dollar is pretty much on par these days...although prices here have stayed higher in the states so ppl are used to paying a bit more). My fancier cards (criss cross, pocket, etc with designer paper) went for $3.50 each or 6 for $20.00. Nobody thought that was too much. One person said I should charge more, but she didn't buy anything, so I'm not sure how much her advice was worth!

I'm horrible at math, so I always 'count up' to make change. For example, if someone is buying something that costs 4.99 and they give me a twenty, I would take the twenty, and then
grab a penny and say "5 dollars"
grab a $5 bill and say "10 dollars"
grab a $10 bill and say "20 dollars"

Works for me every time, and I'm so bad at math, when I hand my students their tests back I warn them to double check their marks! (No, I don't teach math! ;) )

Default totes

fin-fan..I have a few totes in my gallery, as well. Some are for 3 x 3 cards and others are for the 5 1/2 x 4 1/4. The template link is in a couple of them.
Have fun.

I just finished tallying up the results of the show I just did...it was my first one, and I'm happy with the result! After reading all the advice on this thread, I asked around, and the festival in the town I live happens to be very well attended! (I'm including prices where I remember them.)

So...I made
18 large candles...sold 0
*These were glass candle holders with a stamped belly wrap
12 small candles...sold 10
*also glass holders with stamped belly wrap, $1 each
5 matchboxes (hold chocolate)...sold 2
*$2.50
6 stationery sets....sold 4
*included 4 notecards, 4 envelopes, and a matching folder
5 large composition notebooks...sold 3
*$7.50 (although one went b/c the girl who was looking at it got it dirty!)
10 small composition notebooks...sold 6
*$3.50, decorated with DSP, CS, and ribbon
2 covered sketchbooks...sold 1
3 mini albums...sold 1
4 post it holders....sold 1
33 scalloped tags....sold 25
*50 cents each, these had double sided tape on the back
52 3"x3" cards...sold 22
* $1.00 each
16 money cards...sold 10
* $2.50 each
8 gift card cards...sold 3
*$2.50
28 'fancy' cards...sold 8
*$3.50 each or 6 for $20.00
264 regular cards...sold 118
$2.75 each or 6 for $25.00
4 man packs....sold 1
*$18.00, included 6 cards such as Valentine's, birthday, anniversary, etc. I think the men were too embarrassed to buy these!

All in all, I made back the cost of my table on the first day (and more). I've signed up to do it again next year. A lot of the vendors come from far away, but it makes it more profitable for me, being so close. (2 blocks away!) I gave out a business card with each purchase, and several people asked for one, so we'll see if I get any orders out of that. Someone also suggested selling in the local art gallery...at least then I wouldn't have to stand there for hours on end!

Dawn,
That's a lot of cards! You've been a busy girl. How did you display all those cards?

in box lids! I had a bunch of photo/video storage boxes that fit the cards nicely. They are black, so they looked classy. The cards were all individually in plastic bags from clearbags.com so ppl could flip through them. I had to encourage some people to do that though! (Most of my cards are blank on the inside; the ones that had something stamped just had an extra little piece of paper in the back of the package showing the stamp.)

I had a noteable differance in table overall attention with a dark colored tablecloth,...think it makes your items show better, have had sales 4 years and last year was best attention and I think it was the tablecloth. I use baskets to divide up my cards and section them off for occasion.

Thank you all for sharing so many awesome tips and photos! I am hoping to have an open house this fall and possibly even attend a craft show as a vendor. I am eager to get started! Having a list of prices is great for me!! I never know how much to charge! I have only been a vendor at one craft show a couple years ago. I had a lot of fun and made notes on what did work for me and what did not work for me that day, so that will be helpful again! Good luck to all of you who are doing craft fairs/festivals/shows this fall and winter!
Hugs,
Bridgett

Hi,
I was wondering what the paint me and color me card sets with crayons or paints look like. Did you just stamp an image in black ink and include envelopes and such and then the crayons or paint for the customer to paint it or color it themselves? Were they all geared towards kids? If you have any pics I'd like to see them or where you got the idea. Lori williams

I couldn't find any examples of paint it or color it kits just read about someone doing it, so I am in the process of creating them. I bought crayola crayons 24 pack and water color 8 color kit with brush and gearing these towards kids. Stamping watercolor paper panels with black stazon to paint and then they can put on the front of the card after drying and I stamped happy birthday inside and with a matching envelope1 5x7 and 2 smaller ones. One less card in these due to extra expense of watercolor paper. The ones I am working on now are all birthday cards. The crayon ones I stamped with black stazon right on the card. One birthday, one thankyou, one get well and one any occasion ( 2 5x7 and 2 of the smaller cards). They will get a free colorful gift bag with each set. I have not decided on a price yet and have not finished them yet to take any pictures. Would love any input on if I included enough cards in each kit and how much to charge.

Question

I would love to see it when you are finished! Sounds wonderful. Is stazon & watercolor paper required when you are going to color or paint?

Pam

I agree! The dark tablecloth really make the items "pop" and it looks much more professional.

I used stazon so the images will not bleed and a separate panel of the water color paper so the kids don't soak their card and ruin it while painting it.

Wow!! What great info. After reading this I am going to do a show next month, but have a few questions....

Where do you get the jumbo paper clips - staples??
What size binder clips for the post it note holders?
Can you use a Sharpie to color on the tiles?

TIA

Cool wine bottle tags

I want to do some wine bottle tags for our local womens club Taste of Italy wine tasting event. I am looking for the type of tag that hangs over the top of the bottle. Where can I go for examples and ideas. Thanks Kay

Okay, i can handle two of these...
I get my paperclips at walmart, in the office supply section near the regular size paperclips...my walmart has them on the shelf below the stuff hanging on the wall...you wouldn't believe how often i searched the wall thinking they didn't have them before i realized they were on the shelf! (Duh!) Target has colored ones, but they're more expensive. Cute, though.

I've used a sharpie to color on tiles...i use the very fine tip ones, and then i heat set everything with my heat gun...just be careful because the tile gets VERY hot (learned that the hard way.) So far they've held up pretty good, and i've been setting a drink here and there on one of them. I've also found that you can emboss on them and it sticks pretty good if you heat it up enough. I would do a few trials first to get it just right. Lowes has the tiles 37 cents a piece, so it's easy to scrap a few to get everything down.

Staples has some really cool binder clips right now...very fancy and fashion forward. I bought a bunch off the clearance rack and i'm going to play around with them hopefully this week...

HTH!! Good luck!

I just got the "recipe" on how to make a chocolate book ;) I think I'll make about four of these for next week and see how they go.

I also picked up some funky, column type, tealight holders that I'm going to alter with mod podge and some of the DS paper I've been hoarding (need an excuse to buy more ;) )

Once I've got everything completed I'll get photos and share how it goes for me!

Default Pls help with pricing

I've posted some craft fair projects on my blog. The first post has some binder clips, nugget jars& purses. If you scroll down, you'll also see some more (beaded pens, pen & notebook sets).

Any pricing opinions would be appreciated! (I was thinking $3 for the clips & pens, $7 for the jars, purses & notebook sets.)
