I have a questions about using the Cuttlebug. (I ordered one, but haven't gotten it yet) I saw a beautiful card this am that was a gift to someone, and it had snowflakes embossed on the background, and "merry Christmas" was stamped in the bottom corner. Can you stamp on top of that type of embossing, or do you have to stamp it first? I would appreciate any tips.
Thanks....

I just bought one but not sure if I'll keep... please convince me to keep it
This week Micheal's had a 50% coupon in their flyer (at least in mine)... so I decided to purchase the Cuttlebug based on all the great reviews here... it was $109 before tax (yes here in Canada we have crazy unfair markups)... after bringing it home I looked online for templates and didn't really see a lot for what I wanted (baby shapes - for cards and a scrapbook)... I don't really like any of their alphabets that much either (which cost $119 up here). I have one more 50% off coupon that expires tomorrow so may go get one of the alphabets that I think is 'okay' and then decide - I have 60 days to return... the only other thing i like is the snowflake embossing template - I love that one but really is a template background and some letters worth $130+ ? I'm not sure... I could probably buy some letters for my album for a lot less...
Can someone please help me 'justify' keeping it? ;)
I just posted this in another thread about CB but I'd thought I'd share it with this thread also because I'm so thrilled with the outcome.
Just got back from lows and got the plumber's gasket and had to immediately try it in my CB with the Fiskars Texture Plates. AWESOME! I'm so glad I gave it another try with the right equipment this time. I was trying it with all kinds of other things (fun foam, mouse pad, etc) but this gasket worked. I got it on the plumbing tool isle. It is a reddish-orange (same color as our favorite rubbah stamps) square
Plumb Pak
6" x 6" x 1/16" Rubber Packing Sheet
I followed a sandwhich recipie posted by another SC member: When I find the link again I will post it but this is what I used.
Place the "A" Plate on the bottom; Fiskars Texture Plate right side up, card stock (I sprtized mine with a little plain water) plumber's gasket, and "C" Plate. Run it through your CB.
:-D Go to Ebay!! i got mine for 30.00 & 19.99 shipping. I saw them at Joann Fabrics on sale for 69.99. You can also go to www.customcrops.com
That is who I purchased mine on ebay from. I bought 2 embossing folders for about $15.00.. Mine was just shipped today.

I bought a CB today at Michael's and they not only let me use the 50% off, they let me use another 1 to buy the pads. But what are these embossing folders everyone keeps mentioning. The girl at M's told me everything I needed to emboss was in the box (other than the dies). Was she telling a big one ?BTW w/coupon $43.06 total in La Mesa, California sorry didn't mean to be so big print

I just got my firts dies for the bug yesterday and I've had a blast playing with them! I have a few embossing folders and thought that they were the greatest. The dies are so cool! I bought the tiny tags and the ribbon sliders. This thing is so awesome! I want to get a set of the nestabilities to try out. Does cut at home have the best price with the vip coupon? I don't need them in a big bad hurry.
I am definately going to have to check out the nestabilities again on someone elses computer! We have dial up so it's hard to load up photos. I am so glad I subscribed to this thread!
You still got a good deal. The embossing pads are the best. They are a amall envelop that you place your cardstock inside of. Then roll the folder and all through the CB. My granddaughter so crazy about it she went and got her dollar bills to emboss. You are going to love your CB.
Riverwidow.......If you purchased your Cuttlebug new, it should come with the cutting pads you need. Purchasing additional ones is fine to have but not necessary at the very beginning. (You will eventually need to replace pads as they get used, but should last for about 100 or more cuts.)
The embossing folders are plastic .....some are small about 2x2 (approximately) and some are about 4.5x5.5 (approximately). They are a folder (2 part but attached at one end). They are sold separately from the machine.
If you have the machine it should come with 1 thick whiteish pad, 1 slightly thinner clear pad and 2 thinner clear pads and an Instruction booklet of about 6 pages. If these items are not included in the box, then you are missing items and should contact the store of purchase.
Otherwise, if all items are in the box, then to emboss, you just need to purchase the embossing folders (which ever ones you like) and follow the order to make the "sandwich" to insert in the machine per the instruction booklet. (You need to supply the paper). The "sandwich" is the order of cutting pads and embossing folder with paper to put in the machine.
I hope this info is helpful to you.
Patti
This info is as I know and use the machine. Others may have other opinions and/or additional information to offer.
Riverwidow......Correction to my previous post. You should have 3 total pads in the box with your new Cuttlebug. Pad A is thick and white. Pad B there should be 2 of them, thin and both are clear. These are the actual cutting pads. Pad A is a spacer.
My apologies for the incorrect info on the previous post. I just got my count wrong.
Patti
you forgot to tell her about the C pad. It is clear like the B pad but thicker. O boy, I bet we have her so confused!!! Sorry Riverwidow, we really are trying to help. Check out all the threads on the cuttlebug and you will here about all the great stuff you can do with it. Then go to the gallery and type in cuttlebug and PREPARE TO BE AMAZED! These gals do some awsome work.
cut up .......You're correct. I shouldn't have second guessed myself. I was correct in my original post. I will see if I can delete the correction post.
Everyone.....Disregard post 1098. Post 1097 is Correct!
Waaaaaait a minute! I was supposed to get a C plate with my Bug?! I just got out the manual and it lists it as something that should have come in the box, but it didn't! I've only had it a few weeks, who should I call about not having the pad? The manufacturer or the place of purchase?
jutta.......I would start with the place of purchase if it was a store If you ordered through internet, then contact/call them.
Look in the manual that came with your Cuttlebug to see that it lists the 3 pads...A,B (2) and C as should be included in the box. The manual should also show the times when you would need to use the various pads.
The box (outside) should also state what's to be included in the box.
Get it taken care of before the store/internet business won't honor. There usually is a time limit for returns.
Patti
These are my opinions as I know and use this product. Other people may differ.
I got mine a few weeks ago from Michaels and I got a surprise bonus packed in mine that I wasn't expecting. It is a package of four little embossing envelopes call "Celebration Stamps" One each of a present a buggy, a heart and a cupcake. Included in the package of embossing envelops is this square silver metal with foam mounted on the back. What do I use this for? In the instruction book it doesn't mention using this in the stack.

I got that too in mine!
It's a die cut!!

DuneLady.......Yes, that's a die and would be cut separately. You're lucky! I only got the machine and the cutting pads with instruction booklet. I've had mine a year now, so I guess they have upped the "perks" that come with it. Enjoy!
Thanks, I will give it a try and see how it works. And then I am off to the store today to buy more. Have been snowed in for a few days so having a bit of cabin fever.
freedom43.....If that's true, I would try it before doing it on your finished project. I don't see that the die would fit into the embossing folder and still allow for proper alignment of both sides of the embossing.
I believe it's designed to be a 2 part process.....emboss then cut.
These are just my opinions. I've only had the new Cuttlebug die/emboss sets since last night, so I've only had a few times to try it. It worked for me with embossing then cutting.
Patti
These are only my opinions as I've used the items. Others may differ with their findings and what works for them.

Thanks all, I am just going to jump in. And have fun ! Maybe in a few days you will see a new card in the gallery.
GO CHARGERS !!!

I tried to emboss then cut, but just could not get it lined up correctly. I suppose you could use tape, but I wasn't going to all that trouble. I tried it with the Mickey head/face and also with Minny.
Also the picture instructions on the package show cut then emboss.
When I was done, it really looked cool !!!
I suppose some people would be able to make it work for them the reverse, though.
I bought mine 3 weeks ago and it came with 4 small embossing folders and 1 die just as Dunelady said. I thought they all came with that, but maybe not?
Anyway, check online for other dies and embossing folders to see what there is out there. I bought all mine on Ebay stores. Most places just show you the paper cutout of the design, but some show you the actual dies or embossiing folders so that you can see what they actually look like.
Okay, I read a lot of these....I really do mean a lot....but I gave up and decided to just ask my question...
Do you know if one can use the Cuttlebug embossing folders in any other machine? I have the original Sizzix and I also have a Wizard ( I have a sidekick too!) so I really don't want to buy another machine but I love the CB Embossing folders...especially the new ones!
thankyou thankyou thankyou, I just bought my Cuttlebug and was trying it out, I freaked out when I saw one of the plates was cut with die I tried. I thought I had done something wrong.
I played around with my stamps and embossing folder. I tried stamping & then embossing, turned out ok. Then I tried embossing & then stamping. I found that it just depended on the stamp I was using. I was in a swap recently and received a recipe page that was embossed with the CUB and then stamped on top and it looks awesome!
I don't remember who asked about embossing rubber stamps, but I was wondering if you had a chance to try it yet.
Can someone please help me 'justify' keeping it? ;)
For the complete line of dies and folders go to the main Provo Craft Cuttlebug page. Most online stores only carry part of the inventory. But if you look through the main site, you can at least see every one that is available.
Also, I use dies and folders from many other companies. There are great instruction here for how to use them.
