Default help! I need a new printer

Hello to every one. I've just joined, although I've been visiting this great site for quite some time as a "visitor". I'd really like to know what printers other SCS members rate. Because I have very limited access to craft materials (and an unreliable mail service) I really like to design and print my own papers. My Epson printer has just died, and I can't translate the "tech talk" into what I want from a printer - good reproduction of graphics (and good photo quality too). Any recommendations? Thanks.

I use an Epson Stylus 1400. The advantages of this printer is it prints 12x12 paper and has 6 different color cartridges. I find the ink goes a long way with this printer, I did all of the printing for my sons wedding - invitations, programs etc... with one set of cartridges. I think the quality of print is great although I seldom use it to make printed cardstock. I do however use it to print my digital images and use the Copic markers with no problems. I purchased this printer from the Epson site as they had a rebate on it and free shipping - gotta love free shipping.

Default thanks

Thanks so much for this. I'll certainly see whether they're available here. I was very happy with my Epson until I took it to an approved Epson dealer for an "overhaul" as it was showing slight banding and it was returned to me completely non-functional (and I had to pay for the cartridge they'd bought to check it was working as they thought it might have been because one cartridge was low!). So this has put me off Epson somewhat......

Be careful of Epson and vellum...mine will not print on vellum and I bought it a month ago. Sure it prints on paper but I need to do 200 invites for my daughter's wedding...good thing I kept the HP!! when I called Epson they told me only a limited style of printers will take the vellum sheets. Now I know why the thing was $100 off.

Canon and Epson are the two leading printers for what you need. I think Epson has better colors but Canon takes less time to think. Both are in the photo lab that I have access to here at work and both print well. They both do 12x12 and more.

I have a Canon 860 at home. It's suppose to be more of an office printer than photo but does photo well. It doesn't do 12x12 though. I figured I'd never print anything that size since I like buying paper. I got the 860 cause it does duplexing and it's wireless. Plus I had a GC for Dell and Dell carried this printer.

The Epson NX415 and others I don't own will not read vellum as it is translucent . I called the company--it won't even work for using vellum to use for copies or nuthin'.
