DGC051 - Clean It Up With Cloning – 11/03/09
Is there a pole growing out of your son’s head in that otherwise perfect graduation photo?? Unsightly rubbish on the grass behind your daughter at the park in her birthday pic? Remove it – and scrap those pics!! Last week, Marcia (Grandmaof1) made a good suggestion to have a challenge using the clone tool. So, this week’s challenge is to use the clone tool to remove something from a photo and then use that photo to scrap a page. (You can use as many or as few photos on your page as you wish, just be sure at least one has been edited using the clone tool, healing brush, magic wand or other removal tool.)
I have two samples. The first is a Halloween 2008 digi-dps I just finished. On the larger photo of the three girls on the right page, I cloned out a white SUV from the upper left side. (See attached thumbnail below to see the original "BEFORE" photo.)
Sample 1: Halloween 2008
The second page is an older one -- a hybrid page (part-digi - part paper) -- from my gallery. I cloned out a dark shadow (photographer’s head) from the bottom right corner. (Center photo at bottom of page.) (Again, see attached thumbnail below for BEFORE photo.)
Sample 2: Future Golf Pro (hybrid page)
I use the clone tool a lot, but I have to confess, it took me a while to really get the gist of it. If you’ve never used the clone tool or other removal tool, you can find a number of tutorials online. Here is one video I found that gives a brief example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WcJbN8CA49c
Can’t wait to see what you come up with!!
If you have questions, you can post them here or PM me.
You can view all submissions for this challenge here: DGC051
To add your page to this gallery, just add DGC051 to your keywords. Also, please take a minute to post a link on this thread so we won’t miss seeing your work!
Have a great week! I look forward to seeing your layouts.
Oh, and one more thing -- don't forget to leave a little love for others when they leave love for you. Everyone likes to read comments about their work!!

Schedule Change for the Digi Challenge
Until further notice, the DGC will be posted every other week. The next DGC will be posted on 11/17/09. I will re-evaluate this schedule after the end of the year and if participation warrants it, I will return to a weekly schedule.

I haven't tried to use the clone tool but I do use the Healing tool a good bit. I used in on the TMI layout cause I took a pic of the TV and the flash showed on the pic and when I looked at the really old pic of my son and daughter, I realized there were age marks on it and I covered them using the heal tool. I'll have to find some pics and a tutorial for the clone tool to give it a try. Maybe when I try the rounded corners again .

Marcia, it's amazing how much more impact your photo has without theTRASH CAN in the photo!! I did that with a trash can that was outside the home my son and his girlfriend had purchased awhile back. Sure makes a scene look better, that's for sure!! I loved this layout when you originally posted it, and I still like it now!!

Good night Ladies, before heading off to bed thought I would share with you this link. A YouTube vid that my sister sent. Maybe some of you have seen this vid and heard of these doctors. Very entertaining, and I immediately thought to myself, I wouldn't mind having one of them for my anesthesiologist when I have my knee replacement surgery!
Marcia Enjoy

Once you get the hang of it, cloning is a great go-to tool! There is so often something I want to remove from or cover up in a photo. You can add in things too, although there are probably more efficient ways to do that technique.
You're gonna love cloning!!

I will try this one, but I have already done one on my blog with my daughter that was still born this summer, want to get better at it as all of her photos we took were awful......I used the clone tool to remove her bruising as best I could, she had a bruise on her left arm and the left side of her head....the page is hybrid, but mostly digital...you can see it here, but I don't think I will post in these galleries....I won't post the original photo cause it is too hard for some people to see, but her bruise was VERY red, so a lot of cloning went on

Good to be back scrapping again and hope to join these challenges more like you suggested Wendy!

I am so very sorry to hear about your daughter. I can't imagine the sense of loss and pain you must be experiencing. I hope the scrapbook pages you create help to heal a little.
It will be wonderful to see future challenge pages of yours in the forum. I've enjoyed the pages you've posted in the past and you'll be an inspiration to all!
Thanks for stopping in.

Well, you did a great job! The cloning tool can sometimes be used for deceiptful purposes (I don't trust many photos I see on the web anymore!) but it sure is great for purposes such as we use it!!

I have the cutest photo that I have already cloned for this challenge. I just need to get it on the page. Cloning is cool. It is one of the first things Mike taught me how to do way back in PSE 2.0, if anyone remembers that version.
You have my promise Wendy, that I will return with a page for this one.

Here you go Wendy...as promised here is my layout. I did clone something out of my photos but someone- Charity's Dad. You'll understand why when you see the layout.
P.S. I did the cloning several years ago and had the photos printed but, I'm just now getting them scrapbooked.

Thanks for the fun challenge.

Hey ladies!!!
Just found an Enabler Alert in the digiscrapping forum: Costco has a $30 off coupon on Photoshop Elements 8, so final price is only $50 and it includes the Scrapbook Training DVD by Linda Sattgast.

OK. Once I figured this out, I did something on all 3 pics AND covered the hole in the "cool dude" charm to make it solid. Very awesome tool!

Here are the pics I used...I'm still not real pleased with the cake one though.
