Title: ORCHID SOUP Hostess: Faith (markie's mom) - SPECIAL GUEST PAPER CHEF Keyword: AUG09VSNA Day/Date: FRIDAY, AUG 14, 2009 Time: 06:00 PM (EDT)
I'm so happy to be a Guest Hostess for Tonight's VSN!
About a year ago, Markie's Great Aunt Gail and Great Uncle John came to visit us from Maryland. We took them to a VERY well known restaurant in <st1:City w:st=[/IMG]St. Augustine, FL. </ST1:razz:It was, by far, the best meal we have ever enjoyed.
The dining room was beautifully outfitted, with antique furniture, china, linens and crystal. There was even an accomplished pianist playing soft dinner music in the middle of the room. The meal was set out in courses, even Little 8 year old Markie had 4 courses. The table had small lead crystal finger bowls with beautiful orchids floating in them at each place setting.
While looking in his orchid filled finger bowl, Markie asked, "What is this?"
My uncle said, as he picked up an orchid, "It's orchid soup!" and he popped the orchid in his mouth and ate it!
Markie sat there a moment in stunned silence. He then asked quietly, "Hey Mom...Is Uncle John related to me by blood or did he marry in?" And, yes...we all laughed...even the waiter and other people dining at tables near ours!
So, in honor of that VERY memorable meal, I challenge you to create a card that uses any flower and a circle that will be your Orchid Soup bowl!"
UPLOADING INSTRUCTIONS: 1. ALL VSN CREATIONS MUST BE UPLOADED BY 10:00 PM EDT ON SUNDAY, AUGUST 16, 2009 2. You have 45 minutes to complete the challenge. 3. Please remember to put in the correct keyword (AUG09VSNA) when uploading your image. Copying and pasting the challenge keyword is recommended to avoid typos. It is also highly recommended that you post a link to your creation in the chat thread just in case the gallery is being testy.
I love people like your Uncle. The joy they possess for living and the wonderful making of memories are the special gifts they bring to us to treasure for life!!! Off to make my soup.
Such a great story! Fun challenge to start off the weekend! I don't get to play this weekend - I'm busy painting my stamp room and DH's photo studio cuz we are putting in new flooring. So, all my stamping stuff is packed up. But, I'll chat with y'all!

I was so excited to see that you were one of our chefs this weekend, Faith. It just wouldn't be right without a Markie story and this one is really a gem. I had such a visual in a fine restaurant, a funny uncle and a little boy with BIG eyes. Thanks for sharing this one. I will dig into the challenge when I get home. Thanks.

Oh too bad Cobi, but new floors and walls are great! What colour are you painting it?
Cobi...I'll take any hints you learn...I get to redo my craft room in 3 weeks. Rip out some cabinets, treat and paint the walls. First I have to pack everything up.

I think it was a very wise decision on the part of the Co-ordinators of this VSN - oh hang on, I'm one of those this time, aren't I. Hmm, I did well then - LMBO!!!!!
I was so pleased when Faith responded that she would do a challenge this VSN. I love her work and her stories and upbeat attitude always makes my day a little better.

Well, Kurt's office is, well, I thought it was soft suede, but it's really not. It's darker and greener and greyer, with even darker accent. My stamp room is a colour called Gossamer Blue - looks like if you mixed Soft Sky with Baja Breeze, with the dark brownish colour that's in Kurt's room as the accent. Except I ran out of that colour, so I have to wait til I get more.

Hey! I am so glad you are one of the guest hostesses today. I love your cards and this is a great challenge. I will add my link when I finish and upload my card!
Me too, that's why I put it off since last year...but I can't procratinate any more...it's getting so I can't find anything. Oh to have it organized and be able to work in there instead of draging things to the living room and back again.

wahooo! I finally made it! My kids were enjoying the not raining, hot sun here in NY for a change and were out riding their bikes and we lost track of the time! Ack! But we are here and ready to run!
