AUG08VSNO ~ Harry Potter and the Paper Potion ~ Saturday, August 23 8:00 P.M. CST
Title: Harry Potter and the Paper Potion
Hostess: Little Lou's (Stacey)
Keyword: AUG08VSNO
Day/Date: Saturday, August 23, 2008
Time: 8:00 PM (CST)
One of my favorite books is the Harry Potter series. I love the fantasy aspect, the battle against good and evil and the complex characters, especially Professor Snape. Now most people see Professor Snape as the mean old potions teacher who hates Harry, but for anyone who has read the last book of the series we know that there is a lot more to him than meets the eye.
When Harry and his class mates have to make a potion in Professor Snape's class, they must follow the directions carefully and add only the amounts of the ingredients asked for. My challenge to you is to make a card using ONLY the supplies listed below and only in the quantities listed. No more, no less. Don't worry though, unlike Professor Snape, I will not take house points or give you detention if you get caught talking to Ron, or if Hermione has to help you out a little bit. I will also not allow any Draco Malfoy types in to play, so don't worry about snide comments or snares behind your back!
1. You must use only 3 colors/shades of card stock or ink. This includes the patterned paper and neutrals. Example, you can use red, white and blue card stock and red, white and blue ink. Your patterned paper can only have the colors red, white and blue in it. You can choose the colors you want, but remember, no more or no less than 3 colors.
2. You can only use 2 accessories on your card. With this part you can add a neutral color if you wish, or you can use a color that already matches. Example, you can add silver brads or black eyelets to the colors above, or you can use red and blue ribbon. Each piece of accessory counts as 1, so 2 brads is 2 accessories.
3. Glitter or embossing powder is not allowed.
4. You must stamp at least 2 different images on your card, but no more that 4 separate images. You must also use 1 greeting. You can repeat the images and greetings as often as you like.
5. You have to use a punch of some sort for your card. This is the only part that I am not limiting you to, you can use as many punches as you like, as long as you conform to the rest of the requirements for the card.
Bonus Points: (not required, just for fun)
Use any "House Colors" on your card. For those of you who are Harry Potter impaired here are the House Colors:
Gryffindor: Scarlet and Gold
Hufflepuff: Yellow and Black
Ravenclaw: Blue and Bronze
Slytherins: Green and Silver
Use black in your card (since the students at Hogworts wear black robes)
Incorporating images that remind us of witches and wizards (a witch, pumpkins, broomsticks, black cats)
Remember, the most important part is to have fun and start creating. Like potions class, you do have a limited amount of time to complete your card. When you are finished, instead of bringing a vial of your potion to the front of the class for grading, please just post your card in the gallery!
Happy Stamping!
*** ALL VSN CREATIONS MUST BE UPLOADED BY 10:00 PM CENTRAL TIME ON SUNDAY, AUGUST 24***
*Please remember to put in the correct keyword when uploading your image. If you are using additional keywords, you must separate them with a comma. Copying and pasting the challenge keyword is recommended to avoid typos.
*It is also highly recommended that you post a link to your creation in the chat thread, in case the gallery is being testy.
Brilliant challenge, Stacy! I so want to do this one, but maybe tomorrow and if I do you better get over here and comment on it. I love that you thought this up to Harry Potter. I'm a little frightened by the requirements for this course, but will trudge on regardless!!! ;)

This is such a fun challenge, Stacey! I have to admit I don't know what I'm going to do yet. And, can I just say, I adore Alan Rickman!

Don't be frightened by the requirements! Take them one by one and they really aren't that bad. I thought it was a lot myself when I first wrote it, but when I sat down to create my sample it was a lot easier than it seemed.
I'll upload my picture in the morning. Here's my recipe:
Colors: Scarlet,(real red), gold & white Black is in there for the robes
Stamps: 3 from the Blackberry Fields by Artistic Stamps, plus a sentiment
Accessories: 2 black brads
punch: I used my corner rounder to make a scalloped edge. Hopefully next month I'll get the new scallop edge punch from SU
My card is uploaded here if you would like to check it out. This was a fun challenge with the recipe you gave us to follow. I think I even earned a few bonus points!

On my way to check it out now! This is the fun part... now that everyone is getting ready to upload their cards!
Ooooh! I LOVE this challenge... I love having a limited list of supplies, really gets you back to thinking about your creation, like in the beginning before we had 199 different colours of ink.
Okay, off to create!

Oh, I have a question... can we stamp our image on white paper if we colour it in completely so no white shows and only the three other colours that we chose?

This is clearly a "must-do" for our house! I think I will try for Ravenclaw, since that's the house I (and my middle daughter) tested into. I should be able to get to it tonight if the 2yo goes to sleep.
Thanks for a great challenge!

Where do you go to "test" into a certain house? I am afraid I would be a Slytherin!
OK stampers, although I am signing off for the night does not mean that the challenge is over! Remember, you can play at anytime, just remember you are allowed 45 minutes and your creation must be uploaded by 10pm CDT Sunday August 24!
Have fun and happy stamping! If you do have a question, please be sure to post it here! If I am not around maybe one of our coordinators might see it and be able to answer for me!

We found it online...somewhere...It was a super long survey/quiz/questionnaire thingy posted by a grad student from Indiana (maybe?) I think there were about 120 questions. Anyway, it seemed pretty reliable, from our results. My oldest turned out a Gryffindor, and middle and I were Ravenclaw. The two of us are really quite alike in a lot of ways, and I have to say I often don't "get" the oldest one's motivations at all! Interestingly, we had similar results from a 10-question quiz posted on the Warriors website. The 2 of us are "Riverclan" and the oldest is something else.
Ah, stamping...it brings the family together!

How fun was this???? I would have added a bit more to this if I had more time but then, I probably wouldn't have followed the rules and got a bad grade!!
