Default Stamp Cleaner recipes needed

Grrrrrrrrrrr. My two year old just dumped an entire bottle of Stampin Mist onto the carpet.

With that said, what is your favorite recipe for home made stamp cleaner? I just looked up some old threads about cleaners but perhaps there are some new recipes or ideas out there!

Please share so I can stop being grouchy! I really don't want to buy another bottle.

Thanks.

Dawn

I use plain water. But I know some people use a mix of water and window cleaner. Just make sure the window cleaner does not have ammonia in it. Mix it half and half - I think.

Default Windex

I use Windex. I just spray right from the bottle onto the scrubber thing.

I still love baby wipes.

I made up a batch a few months ago from a "recipe" I got right here in the forums and I LOVE it! It's 2T Glycerin and a squirt of Baby Wash to 8 oz. distilled water. The mild baby wash won't hurt the rubber, and what I really like is that it's a little sudsy (very little), which I find works great on my stamps. I also remembered reading that if you buy the Rosewater Glycerin (which I did) it'll smell similar to the Old Stampin' Up Mist -- and it does!! I put the mixture in an old pump-style spray bottle and attached the "recipe" to the front of the bottle (covered with mailing tape to protect it) so it'll be right there when I need to make more. Hope this helps!

I use this recipe also. I had to ask the pharmacist to order the rosewater glycerin for me. He got it the next day. I paid $3.59 for 4 oz. Pretty good deal if you ask me. Also it smells good. My DD thinks it's her "fume". She put's it behind her ears like mommy.

Glittergal and newinker--thanks so much for posting this information. I knew I had seen a recipe for stamp cleaner somewhere on SCS, but couldn't find it.

I did want to know how much is the "squirt" of Baby Wash that is added to the distilled water and what exactly Baby Wash is (a brand name or generic baby wash stuff)--it's been a while since there have been babies in my household!

TFS!

I use Johnson & Johnson baby wash. It comes in a pump top bottle. I consider that a squirt.

I'm chuckling because I also questioned how much a "squirt" is, but once I got the bottle (at the local supermarket) I figured it just meant a squeeze of the bottle. Not precise, but that's what I did and it works fine! As for brands, baby wash is the generic term and it comes in many brands; I just bought the cheapest. And I found the Rosewater Glycerin right on the shelf (didn't have to ask the pharmacist) but I can't remember which store - maybe Target or Wal-Mart??? And regular Glycerin works fine too, just doesn't have that nice fragrance.

Thanks for the quick replies. I might have some baby wash around, but will have to see if I can find the rosewater glycerin at the store. Sounds like there's a pharmacy stop in the near future for me!

Again, TFS.

Spray & wash sticks with water cleans even the most dirty stamp. I make sure i rinse mine off with plain water after. I'm not sure if spray & wash is bad for stamps, but wow it makes them clean as new!!!

WoW! Great ideas for saving money, girls! I'd rather spend it on the stamps themselves!!

Cindy, I believe a capital T means tablespoons and a lower case t means teaspoons. Her recipe has a capital T. HTH

Two Tablespoons, according the recipe I've been using and it's working great for me. But one thing I've noticed is, over the last couple of years, several recipes have surfaced with variations in the proportions stated, so my guess is, it's not an exact science here, just see what works for you and use it. There have been quite a few other alternatives to cleaning stamps, so if you're interested, do a search for "cleaner recipes" and you'll get a handful of ideas. Only problem is, oftentimes, someone would post a solution and another stamper would reply that one of the ingredients would/could harm the rubber, e.g. the alcohol or drying agent in some of the window cleaners, as well as the body washes (like at Bath & Body Works, I guess). So who knows...maybe down the road we'll find out that this recipe isn't so great either, but in the meantime I'll keep using it.

Default clean as a whistle

maybe i am just crazy and think it works, but i use 409, or some kind of degreaser to get mine really good n clean. i dont use it regualrly, i am sure it dries them out, but to get them looking brand spanking new, i spray it onto the stamp, let it soak a minute, and then wipe and rinse, maybe even use a nail brush to get the grroves.

So, where would you find rosewater glycerin in the store? Is it with medical supplies (like alcohol) or what? Thx!
