Well I got my Epic today and couldn't find in the manual where I could use my Spellbinder dies.....so I called and they were pretty fast in calling me back in Canada....it WILL NOT cut the Spellbinder dies....waaahhhhhh!!!!
So if you were going to buy one and expect to use them...no dice!
But it cuts regular QK dies??? The Spellbinder dies are the same thickness and design, I use the same sandwich for both on the Revolution, Big Shot and Cuttlebug...so why would that not work for the Epic??

Just going by what QK said to me on the phone....so I don't know....I am afraid to try it in case it breaks the darn thing and I don't have good luck at the best of times so I am just going to trust what he said unless someone else tries it out.
I've used my Spellbinder dies in my Epic6 just fine. Just follow the same method you would use as if you were using your Revolution. When you do the embossing part, it will feel like nothing is happening but it is embossing. BTW, Quickutz came out with some 4x12 magnetic sheets. I used them to make my cutting platform for the Epic magnetic. Helps to keep the dies from moving around.

I'm sorry, that's crazy (not you, THEM!). Don't they advertise that this machine will use most consumer dies? In my book that should include Spellbinders, since those nesties are so popular. Hopefully someone in support is just really confused (not good).

Is the Epic6 better than the machine offered by SU??? Sorry drawing a blank on the name! I have a cuttlebug and would REALLY like to know if I should upgrade?

Well, I think that's a question you have to answer for yourself. Check out reviews, look at the products/values each one offers, and compare it to how you would personally use the machine. That is what will tell you what's the 'best' machine. Otherwise the answer to your question is only as good as the opinion being offered to you by the person you ask.
Personally, this was the 'best' machine for me. I have been a long time Quickutz customer (since they first came out with their handheld tool). I do not have the space for a BigShot. I like that the Epic6 will accommodate other companies dies while still working with my existing Quickutz/Revolution die collection. But that's only my opinion.
Well, I bought my first Sizzix die today to use with my Epic6. The depth of the Sizzix die is not as deep as the Epic cutting platform. I had to use 3 layers of pretty thick chipboard as shims to get it to cut. This was a Bigz die, I think. It cuts a giftcard holder. Pretty disappointed to discover this. I may have to see if there is some sort of extra shim or adapter that I can purchase.
The Epic6 wouldn't cut my 4x8 dies all the way through, so I returned it. I will say that QK knows this is an issue and is sending shims and whatnot to those who call, and QK is planning to come up with a more permanent fix for those who need it.
The Big Shot/Big Kick (same machine, different colors) is a bigger machine, but it has taken every die and cutting plate I've thrown at it and done an excellent job.
I agree with Novell, though. It'd be best to try both and choose the one you like. If you live near an Archiver's, they sell both and I'm sure would let you test them. The Archiver's near me is wonderful (they've been taking back Epics without giving anyone any grief about it).

Just thought I'd share....guess I'd better look for tutorials on YouTube.
I guess I thought it would come with some sort of platform to accomodate all those other dies? Or at least instructions for making it work. I really like QK, I hope they can work out the issues with this machine.

seems like the big kick/big shot is still the machine to have.

Epic6 was a HUGE disappointment for me! Retailer I ordered from stopped selling them because there was such a difference in all the platforms. I know QK will come up with a permanent fix eventually, but I really did not need to order this because I have the Big Shot. It is a much more reliable, sturdy and versatile machine that cuts just about any die!
There are instructions on the Quickutz website about proper sandwiches for using other manufacturers dies. Looks like I need a 2nd cutting mat, which my LSS does not carry extras of yet. I put myself on the wishlist for the next Quickutz order and suggested they carry a few extra as people will start to figure this out.
I know I can return my Epic but I teach at this LSS and if Quickutz will make a correction, I think I can be patient. I will contact them about shims, though. Hopefully that will help. I really do not have space for a Big Shot. That is my only drawback from purchasing that.
