Susaanne we will be thinking of you and Patrick in the morning. I know he is going to love those cookies. You are a great Mom and it is hard when they leave home. You and Tom will eventually have a lot more time for yourselves.

Yes, the Minn. address. I can't find Tina's address. It only lists Lena. Joanna if you have it please post it. Under our snow we have ice. We got rain first which is a bummer.

Today we woke up to -4 degrees; brrr. Saturday they are calling for more snow and I'm actually looking forward to it over this bone-chilling cold.

Angela -- my girls and I would love to meet the mini donkeys and those babies should be beyond adorable!

I'm with the rest of the gals -- let us know when Ivy goes in for her surgery so we can shower her with happy mail!

Patti -- so sorry you are feeling so lousy. Hospital sick policy never made sense to me; you think they would be extremely generous to avoid creating more work for everyone!
Loyola is a great school! I can hear my brothers saying it in my head---after all these years!

I just made him a lunch w/ snacks for the bus ride--they stop for a meal--but it's a long bus ride! Banana, Cheezits, Chicken on fancy bread, his own CC cookies, an apple....Diet Coke, Gatorade and water! Ya think that will keep him busy? hahahaha

Susanne, good thing you packed lots of food. First thing I thought was that Patrick might eat the entire batch of cookies on such a long trip, lol. I know I would! Hope he makes it safely back to school.

Strange weather here it's in the 50s and pouring. All the snow disappeared in about an hour. Very odd. Supposed to be 4 degrees tomorrow.

Getting back into a routine today. The kids and I really need it!

Safe travels to Patrick! What a good mom you are, Susanne-- he's well-packed and has essential traveling food. Toll house cookies -- yum!

Loyola is still Andrea's first choice and it really is an awesome school. My two issues are 1) it's a six hour drive with traffic and 2) even with her $14,000 scholarship, it would cost about $39,000 a year. Ouch! When did college get so expensive?? That's really not do-able unless we find more aid.

Good morning friends!

It is -20 today. Ivy is bored and I quipped that she could play outside! LOL Even Paisley didn't want to run today...the cold hurts her feet. Davis, however, does not get bored...he amuses himself making up jokes (off color humor of the 13 year-old-boy variety), singing his own songs, making weird noises, etc. Boys really are different than girls....

We need routine too, Kathleen. Ivy was bored a week into break and wanted to go back to school. This break has gone on far too long...19 days.

What is Andrea interested in, Jessica? Are there more scholarships she has applied for? Someone (can't remember who) was telling me how expensive schools lure you in with good financial aid the first year and then it may or may not be available the next year.

Susanne, wow, that is some lunch! I hope Patrick has a safe trip.

Random number generator (Davis) drew names yesterday; I will get PMs out today and the new thread up and going.

Andrea is interested in Environmental Science which is supposed to be a rapidly growing field.

I wouldn't put it past colleges to do what you said, Angela, but so far our experience is that they offer her whole or half tuition for the year for four years. That sounds great until you factor in room/board/books/fees and the other half tuition! And these are what's available to a kiddo with a 3.97 GPA, 31 ACT, varsity sports experience and volunteer time. I honestly don't remember the competition being so fierce way back when I went!

If she can raise her ACT 2 points, she could get a full ride to SEMO, but statistically that is a huge jump.

Ivy is a junior, right? My biggest advice to her (we learned the hard way) is start taking the ACT as soon as possible and keep taking it through December of her senior year. Also, start touring colleges now. Live and learn, right?

PMs with new S.S. have been sent! So excited for the new round!

I thought up something that could be used for the future.... 1-2-3-4-5; an example would be:
1 flower
2 ribbons
3 pieces of DP
4 images
5 brads

Just a thought...the wheels are turning...it could be a good way to use from our stash and still have inexpensive fun!

Whoa, Jessica, Andrea has had an amazing H.S. career! Good for her; I bet she will attain great accomplishments in the future! How many times has she taken the ACT? Thank you for the good tip; I will share this with Ivy and remember it. I didn't know it was so competitive either....

Ivy is only a sophomore (and a young one at that...barely 15). It is interesting, we were talking GPA a couple of days ago.... It can be misleading because a student can take easy electives and have a great GPA, meanwhile another student can take the hard, honors classes and also have a great GPA...it's not apples to apples though. I'm glad that colleges factor in the classes a student has taken. Also, I hear that they don't just want "book smart" kids...they want them well-rounded with sports, volunteering, etc. under their belt.

Very true about the GPA, Angela! Our high school weights honors classes, so at least they count higher. And they don't have valedictorians, either, but go with the college system of graduating summa, magna, and *** laude.

Definitely true about outside school experience counting, too!

I agree Jess--Patrick's first SAT was crummy and we didn't publish the scores...his second one was over 300 pts higher (those we used)...Yes Angela the competition is way off the charts now--Patrick played baseball/hockey x 4 years...plus, did a bunch of volunteer work (CCHS makes it a mandate to graduate with 25 hours volunteer work)...but there are a lot of smart/unique kids out there to compete against! I am sure Ivy will not have a problem with all that she has accomplished!

You beat me to it Linda. I found the address too.

Angela: I think TJ and Davis would get along like gangbusters! He is CONSTANTLY making up his own songs and singing his little heart out. And weird noises, yeah ... we got those too.

I have more to say, but gotta get dinner on the table!

So did I! I was googling to find word inspiration and I thought we could each pick five projects/pictures to use as inspiration for our kits, kinda like our word list, but visual.
