We eat it for lunch around 2 and then just nibble for dinner. Ugh. Too much food! No black shopping for me. I HATE being in crowds. The thought of getting up early and then standing in ridiculous lines makes me nauseated!

Imke, I agree with you about Lexie's hair. I like it red/blond. The young ladies in our Church change their hair color all the time to so it must just be this generation.

Our Thanksgiving dinner is going to be on Friday at 3:00. We rented a new Civic Center in Caney to hold our 45 that are coming and it wasn't available on Thursday. Our family is grown so much in the last 5 years. All of my 17 Grandkids have kids except 2 of them. One is 13 and Lindsey says no kids until she is 30. This is all without Denise and her family. She will be missed, she always is. She has only got to come home for the holidays twice in all the years she has lived in California. I have 4 pumpkin pies to bake and 2 pecan pies and am making my Mothers Applesauce Gumdrop cake so need to get some of it finished today. I am also trying a recipe Glenda gave me for tonight. In the crockpot put one pork roast, one can of cranberry sauce with cranberries and one package of lipton onion soup. Three ingredients. She says she only used 1/2 can of the cranberry sauce. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Hello friends!

Yes, I agree...where is Lexie's pretty strawberry blond hair? And where are John's curls? Linda, I know the young girls around here color their hair too; they start very young. There was a girl in Davis' class who had highlights in Kindergarten! She also wore high heels...used to call them Candies in my day...my mother called them mules...have no idea what they are called today....

Imke, Ivy and her friend want me to take them Black Friday shopping...a lot of the stores open at 8 p.m. tomorrow...still not sure if I will go or not. I don't really fell up for it, but I do have fun with the girls. We'll see.

Linda, I have done the cranberry sauce and Lipton onion soup on pork chops...it was good!

Ivy and I were picking up a few groceries today and we saw my Aunt and Uncle. My uncle is in his late 80's and has Alzheimer's; it is so sad to see him like this. My aunt was a "ladies who lunch" type...didn't work. I remember always thinking she had life so easy; well, fast forward to now. Her life is no longer easy, as my uncle is very forgetful and confused and gets into a lot of mischief...he requires almost constant supervison. I don't mean to sound mean, but I never knew she had it in her to take good care of him like she has. It has got to be hard and so stressful...and on top of that, she is in her 80's too. I was talking to Lyle and he didn't know that tomorrow was Thanksgiving; he is so very sweet and soft spoken and enjoys chatting. My aunt said that she would tell him who we were later. Situations like this make me so thankful for our health!

JCI to say hello! Wish I could catch up on all the chatter. Where does the time go?!

Patti, hope you are feeling better.

Jessica, adorable cardkit package from Angela.

We are going out for dinner tomorrow! But, on Friday I'm fixing beef and noodles with mashed potatoes, green beans, and a veggie tray; and strawberry shortcake for dessert.

Saturday going shopping with my youngest daughter and her daughter, my 14 year old granddaughter! I could/should insert sometimes "snarky" granddaughter! I think it goes with the age and continues until mid twenties! LOL

I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving tomorrow; even if Thanksgiving is not a holiday for those of you outside the US, have a terrific Thursday!

Happy Thanksgiving to you all !!

Angela- I agree with Joanna. I think itīs totally crazy to go shopping in this crowds But youīre right with the girls it would be fun and you'd be a cool mom
I can imagine with your uncle. Something like that it is with my grandpa (87). He has dementia and Alzheimer's. He still recognizes us and my grandma (luckily) , but he is also very forgetful. For example, he goes to the basement and do not know what he wanted there. It is not easy and very stressful especially for my grandma (85).

Enjoy your food, the family and the holidays !

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

We missed our Thanksgiving meal last night with my family because we got a call that my DBIL had a stroke and we spent all evening in the hospital. It has affected his speech and memory. Doing test today to see if there is any blockage. Guess I will cook a roasted chicken for my DH and myself.

Going to go to our LSS tomorrow for a sale and that is about it. No big plans.

Tracie, so sorry to hear that your DBIL had a stroke; hope he is improving.

Yummy menu, Susanne.

Our dinner was very good, but the downside is no leftovers; upside is no mess or work!

Just want everyone to know I'm thinking of each of you.

Good morning!

Linda, do you have an update on Greg today? I've been thinking of Denise and her family.

Tracie, how is your BIL? Any improvements?

Hope everyone had a great day; we had dinner, then supper so it was too much food.

Imke, your town is beautiful! Did you buy anything at the Christmas market?

Tracie, so sorry to hear about your DBIL. Hoping that he recovers well from the stroke. Will keep him in my thoughts and prayers.

Denise has been posting on f/b. Am really sorry to her her DH is in the ICU. Prayers and good thoughts for him too.

Wow, Imke, that looks gorgeous. Wish I could check it out in person.

Way too much food (and work) yesterday. I was cooking from 8 until 5 to get everything done. Was delicious, but next year I want to go out. LOL! I wish my mom was alive to cook with me. It would have been so much fun to do dinner together. I miss her everyday, but especially around the holidays.

Anyone doing black Friday shopping? I don't brave the crowds, but I know a lot of people are really into it.

Off to have some leftovers for lunch. Thankful this year to have such a nice bunch of cyber friends right here!

Angela- I myself was not there yesterday. I took the picture from our city newspaper. Itīs a great view. The market is open till christmas, so i will have enough time. But since i was a child i know THIS market. So for me itīs nothing new but itīs always nice to go there with friends /DH and enjoy all these yummie things like mulled wine, crepes, roasted almonds.

Kathy- Luckily I have not lost a close relative. Sure, my grandparents, but they were old and since death is a part of life. I can imagine that you are missing your mother on such days ! AND I hope next year someone else cook for you
I give you back the gratitude. You are all wonderful people!

Default Enabler Alert!

Doodle Pantry is having a 40% sale until Dec. 3rd!

Is anybody taking advantage of any of the sales? What are you shopping for?

Happy Black Friday!

Angela, you cracked me up with your "Enabler Alert" in the last post!

And happy post-Thanksgiving day to my American friends...hope you all had a good day. I hosted my very first Thanksgiving ever yesterday. When I was a kid, we always went to my grandma's...when I got married, we always went to the MIL. The last ten years or so, I am usually working on Turkey Day, so don't see the family. My DD goes to her inlaws in Dayton (about 4 hours drive from here), and of course, now DS lives in Phoenix. At the beginning of this year, MIL moved into assisted living, and Tom used to go there with his family to celebrate while I worked. Since she can't host anymore, Tom's brother asked if we could do a small dinner here. Long story short, all food turned out great, on time, and we had a wonderful small gathering here. Had my mom and dad here, too.

I am feeling about 80% better, still having some stomach issues; guess I might have to break down and and go back to see the doc...

Thinking of Denise and Gregg. Sure hope they get his heart rhythm under control so he's better soon. What a way to spend the holiday--in the hospital!

And Tracie, you, too! Sorry to hear about your BIL. Hoping he is recovering well and with little residue effects. My heart goes out to you.

OMGosh, Angela, I know it's a bit delayed, but I wish you patience and serenity in dealing with the adolescent mouth! Like everyone has said, Ivy is a great kid, and it is a development stage we all need to go through if we are to become independent adults. It's hard for mom to endure, but this DOES pass, eventually, and Ivy will recognize (once again) that her mom is pretty smart! I had to laugh at Jo's post in reply to Ivy's wardrobe choice "if it is not life-threatening, I say, let her look like an idiot." So true! It's just like when the kids were toddlers and you had to pick your battles--same here, only they are bigger now!

Imke, what a beautiful Christmas market! How nice to have something like that to look forward to every year to help you celebrate the season.

Sus, I am about to bust just reading yesterday's menu!! You all will be eating for a week! (oh, right, you do have 2 BIG boys to feed!)

Linda, hoping your dinner today is a great one, with lots of family around, and lots of good food, too!

Kathy, I am in awe that you worked on your holiday dinner all day long! Since Chuck also does some cooking, did he give you any help? I really can't imagine how it must be to go on with the holidays without mom!

My 17 year old niece had the opportunity to go to Paris and Amsterdam two weeks ago, and brought back several hundred awesome photos of her trip. We tried putting them on the computer to view, but, boy oh boy, what a mess on this old thing! So we just airdropped them from her phone to my iPad. Lots of fun hearing about her trip and her experiences!

No shopping for me today. Well, I did go online and bought a new computer...this one is five years old, and is soooooo slow that I think I'm gonna pop a cerebral artery, I get so frustrated with it. Only bought the processor, my accessory equipment (monitor, keyboard, sound system) are just fine. We have wanted to buy a whole new Apple system, but can't really afford the whole shebang right now, so Tom suggested we just replace the brains with a regular ol' Windows. Hopefully I will have the new box to work on the Christmas photos (did spend a few extra bucks to get Photoshop pre-installed!)

I've spent much of today trying to finish up a few Christmas gifts here in the craft room. Two of my sisters-in-law, and my sister LOVE getting handmade cards to send to friends as Christmas gifts...saves me $$, and I know it's a gift they truly like to get. So I guess I'll get back to work...

Vickie/Kathy/Imke, I agree with all of you, that one of the many blessings I am thankful for everyday are our friends here! Enjoy your evening!

Hello all!

Patti, it's good to hear you are feeling better! Yes, I liked Joanna's comment too...now when I see Ivy wear her skirt all askew, I will just have a private chuckle and let it go at that! I remember (before I had kids) seeing little ones dressed really goofy and I'd raise my eyebrows. After having kids myself, I totally get it! You are right, you must pick your battles. I'm not sure if I have ever told you ladies about Davis and his pink jammies.... In an effort to save money, I handed down Ivy's pink footie jams to Davis who was probably 2. I told myself it was no big deal, he was at home, etc. Well, it became a big deal when he decided he liked them, wanted to wear them all of the time, and didn't want to get dressed. Finally I just gave up...yep, he looked pretty silly going to pick up his sister at pre-school in pink footie jams!

Kathleen and Vickie, I had intended to get your packages out this week but I have been consumed with getting the Village tree done. It's still not done! Ivy told me she was going to do it herself and that didn't happen (I knew it wouldn't); I did have her help me today though. I thought she could cut felt strips...not. Then she tried die cutting felt with the Cuttlebug; after a bit of practice she was able to do that. Yes, I know it is not hard but she is NOT a crafty kid. She wants to do some hand sewing...I'm a bit scared to see how that turns out.... We will see what she gets done tomorrow while I am at work. Anyway, after I deliver the tree I will finish your packages and hopefully mail them next weekend.

After all was cooked and on the table at Thanksgiving--Tom turned to me and said..."What no creamed onions this year?" I drew a total blank--ooopsy--I must have walked past them 4 times in two days...one of those days I was waiting on regular onions with the produce guy going to the back room! So...guess I'll have to make it up to them and make it with some other dinner this upcoming winter! DUH!

Patti--I don't touch anything but the KUG and the Turkey (for sandwiches) and the rest will eventually get pitched! Kala was in her hay-day with all the veggie sides--she'll work on them for a few days!

Tom's birthday is tomorrow--Shane announced all of us going to "Texas Road House" for dinnah! (Our last few visits there it was disappointing...kinda like old food?) So we'll see!

Catching up on the posts here...

Patti..when my computer "crashed" this year--I did the same thing with PC Wizard--dumped the old tower (PC DELL) kept all the "accrouchamwah" that went with the old tank (wireless mouse, keyboard, screen, speakers) and plugged the 2007 MS Business version right back in and it is fast and has lots more bells and whistles compared to my original DELL 2001...so saved a bundle too! Plus, they transferred all my files-free...and I have enough memory to last another 5+ years! By then, maybe I will spring for new/new? Good for you--you have needed a new computer for some time! Watch how fast and smart it will be!

Vickie--tomorrow I have to go to AE (Ugly Christmas Sweater day + we see who wins the Christmas tag swap) + it's all about you! I promise to finish up your goodie stash and if I am smart...I will work on Angela's at the same time!

Tonight I had Tom hammering my wooden Advent Calendar together to get in the mail to my sister in AZ...he finally finished and I said..."Oh good honey, cuz I made our house one too--I'll buy more Tim Holtz sandpaper tomorrow at AE! " I need to get a small rubber hammer--good thing he didn't split any of the pressed wood pieces I would have cried! Note to self...work on Advent items in Summer!

Good morning!

Susanne and Angela, I welcome crafty goodness anytime!

Going to venture out for some shopping today with my youngest DD and DGD (the snarky 14 year old!)

I have a good start on December cardkit for Angela, just waiting on a little something I ordered.

Hope everyone has a wonderful Saturday!

Angela, no rush on the kit. Take your time! I would love to see a pic of the finished tree.

I think I'm over the leftovers already, lol. So are the kids. I sent some home with my dad and my inlaws, so we don't have that much hanging around.

Patti, Chuck did the turkey so that was helpful. But, otherwise he was entertaining his parents who came Wednesday instead of Thursday and keeping the kids out of the kitchen.
My SIL is Muslim and can't eat any pork products and is allergic to nuts, so I had to do two versions of several of the dishes, too. That made a bit more work. I'm telling you, next year the one thing I will make is a reservation, lol!

I haven't done any shopping yet. Sus and Patti, great idea to just replace the brains of the computer. Saves some money and still you can use the working parts. My laptop is getting a bit slow, hoping it's not on last legs!

Tracie, how is your BIL? Does it seem like it was a major stroke? Keeping fingers crossed that it was not too bad.

Denise, how is your DH? I didn't see anything yet on f/b today. Hope he is getting stabilized and doing OK.

Linda, did you enjoy having all the family around? Bet it was great, especially having all the little ones so near.

I made a really good appetizer recipe for Thanksgiving, it was Ina Garten's stuffed mushrooms. They had spicy turkey sausage, scallions, garlic, panko bread crumbs, parmesan and mascarpone cheese, and parsley. They were amazing. I will definitely make them again.

Have to go to the farm this morning to pick up our CSA share. Will be good to get some fresh veggies after all of the heavy eating the past few days.

Hope you all have a great weekend.

Just popping in to let you all know that I am thinking of you all!

And to give Angela the heads up that the mailman picked up your December card kit this morning, so it should be in your hands midweek....

Started addressing Christmas cards and wrapping gifts this morning. Since I go back to work tomorrow night, won't have as much time, so figured I'd better get on the stick! And it's the Ohio State/Michigan football game today, so I will be dividing my time between Christmas prep and cheering on my beloved Buckeyes!!

Kathy, it's good that Chuck helped with the turkey...but that is kinda the easy part of the whole meal! Keeping the kids and family entertained is priceless though! Those stuffed mushrooms sound delicious--my mouth is watering just thinking about them! Wow, duplicates of some of the sides to accommodate--Kathy, you worked way too hard! No wonder you want to make reservations next year!

Sus and Vickie, have fun shopping today! (Sus, need a pic of you in the ugly sweater!)

Thinking of Denise and Tracie and hoping family members are on the mend. Keep us updated as you are able, girls!

Better get back to work. Trying to decide if I want to venture out today. though most of my shopping is done, I think I need more wrapping paper and tags. And I have a carload of stuff that needs to go to Goodwill since my sis and I cleaned out Mom and Dad's apartment a few weeks back.

Hope you all have a great Saturday!!

Hi everyone!
Our dinner was great. We had 13 little ones playing in the gym. They did everything with basketballs. The bigger ones were on the pool tables and fosball tables so all the kids had a great time and all the food was delicious. We had ham, turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potato caserole, giblet gravy, creamed corn with cream cheese, broccoli & rice, green bean caserole, squash, jello salad and Danielle made some awesome dips. One was a hot and spicy pickle dip and a pickle dip without the hot & spicy and a delicious spicy cheeseball and one not spicy. We had pecan pie, pumpkin pie, choc. pie, coconut cream pie, applesauce gumdrop cake and bananna nutbread muffins. Not much turkey left and just a little ham. Steve gave that to me and the ham bone to make a pot of beans. We divided what was left of all food so no one is stuck with a lot of leftovers. I'm going to post a photo of Scott, Glenn, Kyle and Gunner if I remember to do it.

I talked to Nickie and she said her Dad is a lot better but still in ICU. I then talked to Gregg and he said the new meds he was taking was working pretty good and they were talking about letting him go home tomorrow.

Looks like most everyone had a happy Thanksgiving.

Denise glad that Greg is better and hope he is home soon.

Tracie hope things are better for you now too.

Linda sounds like a wonderful Thanksgiving, what a great idea to move it to a larger place where there is lots of room for the kiddos.

Kathy what a trooper you are...I wish your mom could have been there with you too.

Susanne I want to move in with you...I think I've said that before. Where does all that energy come from??

I've been working on my Christmas cards...went to a Black Friday crop yesterday and got a good start there. I would really like to get them in the mail next week. We'll see.

Imke I always look forward to the photos you post of the Christmas Fair. So beautiful.

Breaks over hope all of you are having a nice Saturday!!
