Default CLOSED - Lose and Keep it Off Weight Loss SS Swap - January - June

I lack control during the holidays and I put on those few pounds I worked so hard to get rid of for months. I really want to loose them, I want 2014 to be a good year in my weight loss journey, but I need help from my weight loss buddies. Come join me in this life changing journey.

I want to keep this simple, but helpful. So here's what we will be swapping and how it will work. This time around, I am picking a theme a month, if you don't like the theme for the month you are welcome to sit out that month. The themes are open to your interpretation, just have fun.
January - send two healthy recipes and a card
February - send a healthy snack and a card
March - send ABAC (anything but a card)
April - send an item that will help your SS relax
May - send a beverage (coffee, tea, drink mix) and a card
June - senders choice

I hate flakers, actually made me cut way back on swaps. So partners will be assigned slightly different, each month on the first of the month I will send each of you your SS name for the month. You will need to send your card with the little something out by the 20th. Once you receive from your SS, please post in the thread it was received. On the last day of the month, if you didn't send your card out, you will sit out the next month, and if you fail to send at all, you will be dropped from the swap. If you were just late, you sit out a month and can participate the following month.

I will be running this swap for six months, you can sign up late, but if you need the help like me, sign up NOW - don't wait. Also, PM me if you need to sit out a month (vacations, etc.) Chatter, encouragement, hints are welcome now!

Survey

1) What type of recipes do you cook - fast & simple, crockpot, healthy, etc..? Any food allergies? Anything you absolutely would never eat? How many people do you cook for daily?

2) What is your go to snack? Any snack you would not like to receive?

3) How do you relax after a long tough day?

4) Favorite beverage? (Remember your SS has to mail it - diet soda might not be the best choice)

5) Why do you want to loose weight? Do you have a goal in mind?

Correct, ABAC stands for Anything But a Card - can be an altered item or an item such as a post note holder, tea holder, etc.

Hi Ladies, I would love to try this swap. I have been working on weightloss and healthful life changes for a year already. I am looking for ways to stay motivated and get out of my "diet fatigue" funk. Group support has been one of the most helpful things for me. Please sign me up!

I'll join, too. Question for the recipes, though: are they supposed to be craftily embellished? Or are we just building their recipe stash? (I promise to at least make them look nice if all I've got to do is print them. )

I'm curious as to the answer to Emily's question as well. Also, from what I understand, we can sit out a month at any time, is that correct?

It can be either, the ones I sent last round for this swap I just wrote out on nice recipe cards. You could print them out, write them out or be fancy dance but it is mainly for the recipes not the art as much.

Hi, Emily's question is answered above and yes you can sit out a month, I usually ask each month prior to assigning names if anyone wishes to sit out for that month or you can just let me know and I will note it on the first page.

I went on a trip and either got food poisoning or a flu bug that my flu shot didn't counter act and have been sick for three days. We were to take the train back from Vermont to BWI and then fly home to MI. I convinced my DH to rent a car and drive me home, 1,000 miles later and we are home. Still sick, calling the dr in the morning. Will work on survey in the next couple of days, once I feel better.

Okay, I think I'll join please. I hope you all don't mind if I'm joining more for the sending fun than the weight loss fun. I'll be gaining for sure, but can use the motivation to not gain as much as I might otherwise.

Survey

1) What type of recipes do you cook - fast & simple, crockpot, healthy, etc..? Any food allergies? Anything you absolutely would never eat? How many people do you cook for daily? I like to cook healthy meals and I use my crockpot often. I am lactose intolerant, but I do use a little milk when cooking. I do not eat beef and I hate broccoli. I cook for two people daily.

2) What is your go to snack? Any snack you would not like to receive? My go to snack is popcorn, a treat for me is pistachios.

3) How do you relax after a long tough day? Climb in bed and read a book, sometimes take a long, hot shower. Surf the internet.

4) Favorite beverage? (Remember your SS has to mail it - diet soda might not be the best choice). Decaf. Hot tea - any kind but plain black or green. I do not drink Lipton tea, love coconut green tea and lemon flavored tea.

5) Why do you want to loose weight? Do you have a goal in mind? To stay healthy. My goal is to improve my overall health and to maintain my current weight, I am a lifetime WW member and want to stay one, so I can attend meetings and not pay a fee.

Hi, for all those who are new to my swaps, please read the guidelines of this swap. I am fair but strict. I check every month, if you are late sending and your partner does not receive your card by the end of the month, you will need to sit out for the next month. If you fail to send at all, you are dropped from the swap. Communication is key, I am willing to help people out if you are ill, family issues, etc. but you fail to ask for help, I won't know there is a problem and you will be dropped from the swap. For my Canadian swappers and to those sending to a Canadian SS - mail can take up to three weeks, I will cut you a little slack as far as due dates, but don't take advantage of it and send late. Last round this swap ran pretty smooth, only had to drop one person due to flaking. You will get a different SS every month - I use a random number program to assign partners. You have the option every month to request to sit the month out, we all lead busy lives, sometimes we don't need to worry about swapping. Questions, please ask and I will try and respond promptly.

Talking Lela Survey

Survey

1) What type of recipes do you cook - fast & simple, crockpot, healthy, etc..? Any food allergies? Anything you absolutely would never eat? How many people do you cook for daily? I used to use my crockpot a lot but now that it's just me and hubby I cook for 2. Fast & Simple is important as I work full-time

2) What is your go to snack? Any snack you would not like to receive? Well, for healthy snack I like the flavored rice cakes or small package of cashews or almonds. I'm in sales so I try to carry something healthy as it's too easy to stop at fast-food!

3) How do you relax after a long tough day? I love to Unwind in my craft space so a fun evening after a tough day is stamping or scrapbooking

4) Favorite beverage? (Remember your SS has to mail it - diet soda might not be the best choice) I love flavored coffees and teas.

5) Why do you want to lose weight? Do you have a goal in mind?
I'm on a journey to eat better and live a healthier lifestyle. I bought a fit media armband to count steps and track sleep. I joined a gym for exercise classes. I realize as I age I need to be more active now to keep fit. I would like to lose inches, LOL.

JadeOnline's Survey

1) What type of recipes do you cook - I struggle with weekday meals. I work full time and have a toddler, so when I get home it's basically all hands on deck to get something ready to eat on time. My husband helps, but he hates timing things, so one-pot meals that have everything ready would be great too. We have a slowcooker, but should use it more. No food allergies in the house. I cook for three - two adults and one child. She's a good eater, but is still working on those teeth, so we don't eat too many "tough" cuts of meat. I'd also love to find healthy "treats" that Claire can eat too. We try not to give her too much sugar.

2) What is your go to snack? Any snack you would not like to receive?
I'm usually a pretzel girl. Lately, I have not been craving the sweets as much. Quite frankly, send anything that's easy to ship!!

3) How do you relax after a long tough day?
After I've played with Claire and put her to bed, I'll usually be found crafting, reading a book on my Kobo, or sometimes doing logic puzzles or sudoku.

4) Favorite beverage? Teas (orange pekoe usually, but I experiment. I like peach herbal herbal tea), hot chocolates, apple cider. Straight coffee is hit or miss with me especially right now, but I do like lattes. I do not do aspartame.

5) Why do you want to loose weight? Do you have a goal in mind?
Well, here's my story...I am gaining weight right now thanks to the joys of pregnancy! But, there are limits as to how much I should gain, so finding ways to cut cravings and stay healthy are important. I haven't gained as much this time around and want to keep it that way. Once baby arrives (mid-April), I'll have to focus on the increased caloric intake for breastfeeding, while still losing as much baby weight as I can before I have to fit into a bridesmaid dress late May.

Olga's Survey

1) What type of recipes do you cook? I have a very demanding job so quick and easy is best. I also get a bi-weekly farm vegetable delivery and am always looking for more ways to cook greens and other veggies. I also like to bake bread and other stuff. I enjoy making nicer meals too, but just dont have time for that on most weeks. It's just me and my husband so recipes that scale, reheat or freeze are great.

2) What is your go to snack? Any snack you would not like to receive? I'm trying to cut down on sweets so would prefer veggie chips or nuts, but I eat almost anything so if you have a favorite snack, I'd love to try it.

3) How do you relax after a long tough day?
In the summer my after work "relaxation" is triathlon trianing . For real relaxation, I love papercrafting - cards, challenges, blogging, etc. I also like to sew.

4) Favorite beverage? Tea. I like green and black the most (plain or flavored). I'm more picky about herbal teas and don't like spiced teas or chais.

5) Why do you want to loose weight? Do you have a goal in mind? In the warmer months I actually work out a lot. I like triathlons and running and I've finished my 2nd Half Ironman this year. However, I hate working out in the winter and despite my best efforts seem to go into a hibernation and eating mode. The holidays this year were especially bad. It's hard to go from having to eat a lot of calories during training to cutting back and so I end up putting on close to 10% extra weight in the winter and even when I loose some of it, I can't seem to get back exactly where i started. So this year I'd like to start loosing some weight earlier so I'm feeling better before my spring training season starts. I need the accountability to someone to keep me in check

Good Morning All. Here are my answers to the survey. Happy New Year!

1) What type of recipes do you cook - fast & simple, crockpot, healthy, etc..? Any food allergies? Anything you absolutely would never eat? How many people do you cook for daily? I prefer healthy or low carb recipes. The fewer processed foods the better. I generally just cook for myself, but sometimes I cook for my husband, too. He tends to not like the healthier foods I prepare for myself. Working on building a recipe base that is still healthy but also appeals to the typical "man" diet.

2) What is your go to snack? Any snack you would not like to receive? Best snacks for me are nuts, healthy grains or veggies. I try to stay away from processed carbs and sugars.

3) How do you relax after a long tough day? Knitting, Crochet, Crafting, Computer Games or watching a movie. I prefer things that are productive or engaging my mind rather than sitting infront of the boobtube, but more often than I like, that can win out too.

4) Favorite beverage? (Remember your SS has to mail it - diet soda might not be the best choice) Tea! I love most kinds of tea (not a fan of chai though). I have a carafe at work to hold hot water so I can make tea at my desk all day long.

5) Why do you want to loose weight? Do you have a goal in mind? I got sick of looking in the mirror and seeing the blob I had become. I started losing weight the beginning of december 2012 when I weighed over 375. I've now lost over 100 pounds and I'm starting to lose steam. Those tasty (but horrible for you foods) that saturate ever menu, grocery store and office party have started to make their way back on my plate again. I need to refocus and get back on track to my goals. I would like to get to 200 pounds by the end of the year. I have been working with a nutritionalist and going to the gym. I want to look like the energetic, excentric person I feel like on the inside.

Thumbs up Good Article

Here's a neat article that was sent to me earlier today. It made me think of our Journey together here on this thread.

Forget Setting Goals. Focus on this Instead
