A decent wool blend felt is fine, you don't need 100% wool. Wool blend cuts intricate die shapes much better than acrylic/fake felt (as I've discovered :) )

I can't compare them as I only have the SU one, but I do love it! The only thing I don't like about it is the storage compartment is quite flimsy, but I don't need to use it so it doesn't bother me....
