Need Help - Birthday Calendar - What sets for March-May?

What sets would be good for these months? March and April are both sort of Spring-ish, so what would separate them? And May is the beginning of Summer....June is tough too. Any ideas?

I see everyone stamps with StazOn and colors with Sharpies. Is this because of the larger color selection, better color, or do journalers smear?
