At the hinge side of the CD case, when you snap out the insert, a small bit of it provide the balance of the lid. Without the insert, there's a gap between the hinge and the lid.

When I snap out the insert, DH takes and cuts off the piece that fits to cover the "hole". Then he uses model glue and glues it to the CD case. No hole.

Works great.

I take the insert and have my DH cut the part that covers the "hole" from the rest of the insert. Then he uses model glue to adhere to the CD case. Voila, no hole. He uses a band saw to cut them....
