sorry no words of advice here but I can understand how you feel.
My in-laws only have two children (my two) and the much prefer my DD. :(
DD always gets better presents for Bdays, Christmas etc....

I would suggest using two sheets of paper - one for each side. Just in case you need/want to take them out later.

My son's Bday is also in August and we have often had his party at a local park. The kids can play in the park and if there is a field you can organize a couple of simple races or a mini soccor game....
