When my white pen doesn't work, I clean the tip to remove any dried ink and it works again. I've tried a couple of brands and have found this is necessary with any of them.

I think it would show through the ribbon. Try the adhesive recommended for adhereing vellum...Scotch makes one and it does not show through at all. Maybe test it on a scrap before putting it on...

If I need to seal something, I use Kamar Varnish, which is labeled for sealing oil or acrylic artwork. A friend of mine is an artist and recommended it. It's non-yellowing and won't change the look...
