When photographing with a white background it is important to only light the background and not the object so much. I would put my direct light on the white background and then put a lower power...

I am not sure why you are getting a glare, but you might find another way to light up your photo, maybe if you had a desk lamp that you could use to direct the light to the card. A lot of times...
