I agree about the borders... postage is probably one of the main reasons for low participants... MY MAIN reason is time and I have sooooo many swap items I haven't used yet because of not scrapping as much as I'd like! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE swapping though!

Charity,
I think a lot of us are in the same boat. I have actually been spending time scrapping and not swapping. I am hoping to get a chat going to encourage more of us to swap again.

Another question, one or 2 borders?

I prefer 2 for double page layouts.

I agree about low swapping signups. I'm sure postage is an issue, but I also think so are supplies. I was trying to think of something like "use your stash" or "use your scraps" type swap, but not sure how or what. About a month ago, I took a bunch of same color/theme scraps and adhered them to an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of cardstock and then cut them down to make cards. I think they turned out really cute (check out my blog under the card/page candy tag), maybe something like full sheets of scraps by color or something???

Thanks, keep the ideas coming. I will post a use your scraps swap. And maybe you send in 4 borders and get 4 back or something along those lines.

You gals know me, just a swapping fool...
I know the postage is more for big full pages but on the other hand, then they are done and just ready for me to add things to instead of having to figure out a coordinating background, etc.
I like the sets too, where you make accents and journaling boxes to go with borders/titles. I don't always use the photo mats so I prefer the other pieces myself.

I like the scraps swap you set up... for borders, but also think one with the pieces and borders/titles would be great, just that you don't have to make 4 sets all the same... so you could use scraps to make a set, etc.

I also like the idea of using stamping more in pages/borders, just because I know I have tons of them that I haven't used in a while.
I like themes too, like vintage, male/boys, teens, etc. but seems like we have so few swappers anymore that its hard enough to get them signed up for any, much less categories!!

I also like the 'heavy duty' ones... it seems a lot of swappers may have quit because they felt the quality of items they were getting back were to simple and flimsy, whereas they put more work into theirs.

Susan,
I agree with your high quality swaps, it is disappointing when you get something flimsy in return. But to be honest, I am afraid my stuff might not be good enough for a heavy duty swap.

I am thinking about a swap where you send in unwanted/unloved stuff and then get new stuff back.

Oh I bet it would be, Pia!!! It made me really think and play with my pages, try new ideas, getting 3D flowers in there, and chipboard, things like that when I do those. And I like how it made me use coordinated papers in layers and such too.

I agree with Susan. When there are more "rules", I really go outside of myself and get super creative. Sometimes I get lazy with my own scrapbooks so when I do more involved/hard core swaps, I surprise myself sometimes.

The worst thing in the world is getting something back that smells like cigarette smoke. UGH! I can deal with flimsy, sometimes I just pull stuff apart and use it for other projects, but dealing with smelly stuff is awful!

I agree Dorlene, but I haven't had it happen in awhile. I noticed it more with card swaps. I will check out the more involved swaps and have a little more confidence in myself!

Pia, you crack me up!

Maybe you will get be people swapping again in the scrapbook swap forum. Not sure why the scrapbook swaps have been in decline. It seems like the other forums are still going strong.

I know Cricut has swaps in their forums now. Not sure how many people and how many swaps they have going. I've never checked them out.

I have run out of ideas but I will think about it!

How about a use your swaps swap ... I have about 10 shoe boxes full of scrap items, some are already titles or photo mats, but some are just little embellishments (I've been swapping on the cricut board for about 2 years) ... I've done cards for card swaps using critters I got from a Create-a-Critter swap, and cards for a Kids card swap using paper dolls from a paper doll swap ... you could make 4 2 page LO's using swap items for most of the embellishments and get 4 back ...

Good idea, if we figure out how to word it.

Default just an old idea

I used to do a scrapbook page swap without the page. What you do is put together a great page. you can take a photo of it and send with the swap or post your idea. Then you send all the parts. i.e. photo mats, borders, embellishments, stamped stuff, anything you put on your page, everything except the 12x12 or 8x8 or 6x6 background paper. swap. then you assemble at home using your own background paper.
All your stuff usually fits into a ziplock and a small manilla. this saves on postage, you get new ideas and you can make it your own also.
let me know what you think because i would be interested in joining or hosting something like this if there is any interest. It can even be a monthly club type thing. Just throwing it out here.

Jodi,
Great idea, we have had a few of those recently with just the accent pieces. To save more $$ I think you could do without the photo mats. Put one out there and see if there is any interest.

Hi Pia,
I was also thinking last night maybe a fall/winter or seasons swap and thought of a wide borders/accent pieces school years swap-just making 1 wide border and 2 accent pieces for each grade level prek-12--just a thought.

I was thinking a mini album page swap. Everyone in the group could send in a page and then we'd have a nice mixed medium album. maybe from one paper line or certain colors..

The only swap idea I can think of is to trade 2" border sets from swaps that you can't use. I know I have several I have received but know I will never use.

They have to be good quality borders and their accent pieces. People can post a picture of they are sending. Send in 3 get 3 back or something like that. Not sure what to call the swap. If other people are interested, I would host it.
