If no one else has volunteered, I can hostess VSBN September. Pretty certain I can come up with at least six challenges with samples.

Remember, I can also help you with October. I may be scarce until the 15th, but I can create a challenge or two for y'all.

To help you get even more creative, here's the sketch challenge for August! I know I'm posting it on a random day, but I was having a hard time getting it to come together so I missed last Friday's deadline. Enjoy.

That would be terrific if you could do September. I'd also welcome your help in November for our December Challenge Idea

Layout #2 for this month. I created a sample layout for the sketch challenge. These photos have been on and off my desk for several weeks, but I finally decided to go with my own advice to Jayne: just call it finished and move on!

Hey ladies! Checking in a little bit! My baby will be 11 months old this week and I still can barely get any stamping/crafting done. It's like the opening of an ink pad or a stamp set is a sign that the world is coming to a screeching halt and she needs her mama NOW, haha.....
However, I got a whole digi album done for my brother! It took me since March to finish 51 pages, but I got 'em done last week. I was given a copy of all of their wedding pictures, which totaled well over 1000, but either their photographer was lousy or they are lousy posers because I had a TON of culling to do to find the good shots. I kept the album super simple and I clustered the {digi} embellishments so I could drop them in on multiple pages. I also kept the background a solid shade of purple, and the journaling and titles were kept to a minimum. Hopefully I can load some of the pages Monday for you to see.
My kids have gotten several pages done on their own this summer. It's kind of a "homework" for them so they have sort of a love/hate relationship with the project. Personally, I'm just so happy they're making a dent in their photo boxes and adding new pages. My daughter has gotten more simple with her layouts and my son has gotten more involved, which is so interesting to me. I plan to upload some of those too...
Anyway. That's me for today.

A little slow around here this weekend! I didn't get any scrapping done because I've been out of town, but I plan to get photos printed and scrap some this week. Has anyone used Persnickety Prints for photo developing? I am so tired of the bad results from Costco, so I thought I'd try out some online places.

I loved my first Scrap Retreat and already signed up for another! I can't tell you what fun it was! The meals were all prepared for us by our hostess! Scrumptious! I had lost some weight before I went to Georgia to be with the grands, but don't even want to get on those scales now. Came back from Georgia with new recipes, now new ones from the scrap retreat. There were just 12 of us in three rooms that all open to each other, we all had 6 foot tables , with four of our tables together . I didn't take much, but some of them seem to bring their whole craft rooms! So much enabling! I have a list of things I want! LOL.

The neatest thing was this Cannon selfie wireless photo printer. A little gadget, the lady next to me had. It was hooked to her laptop and she would choose the photo she wanted to scrap and then print it right then and now! So cool! Lela, or any of you have one of those?

It was an old and interesting house in a small town, and I could walk everywhere on my morning walk, to to Main Street in the afternoon to a coffee shop and get my London Fog earl grey tea, or shop in the neatest kitchen shop. We scrapped in our pjs. Oh, it is like a 4 day slumber party! Some scrapped til 4:30 am! And when I got down to the room at 6:30, there were already scrappers working!

I got almost 21 pages done. Two of them still need something. So my 2016 Cruise album is mostly done. Took me all morning to upload it today! Someone did 40 pages, another 60! Holy cow! I thought what I did was good!
Anyway totally relaxing! So, in the last three weeks, I have done at least 35 cards and 21 scrap pages. You would think I would be all crafted out, but- not! LOL

Sharon how fun it must have been at your scrap retreat!! Glad you enjoyed it so and got as many pages done as you did. I think it is wonderful getting 21 pages done. Not everyone can do 40-60 pages, at least I never have if I want titles, journaling, and embellishments on it!!

I can't believe that today is the first time I have checked in this month... and never signed up for the month. It was probably a good thing! After doing 36 pages last month I have gotten only 1 done this month.
BUT I do have a new quit ready for borders!! It is a smallish wall hanging for a challenge due in October. Now to see if I can get if finished in time.

Have papers and embellishments picked for several layouts but nothing started yet!

Going to check out the monthly challenge.

I have a Selphy! I love the ease of printing wirelessly from my phone! The Selphy model I have is NOT compatible with Windows 10. So, once I get tired of the Selphy, I will be getting a PicMate. The Selphy photos are not true 4 x 6, so I trim them down and back them to white 4 x 6 cardstock to look like an old fashioned bordered photo. Another thing I really do like - I like square photos. Great for posting on Facebook. I digress. The Selphy will print the square photos. I have a Samsumg Galaxy S7. Select photo, print. Select next photo, print. The only time it stops is when it's out of paper / ink! I can also print wirelessly to my Canon Pixma - mostly for the big pictures (8 x 10).

I answered the Canon Selphy question in a separate post.

Aaaannndddd! We have two Sharon's!

A quilt challenge sounds interesting. My mom makes quilts and quilts quilts. How's that for our quirky American English. Anyway, I would love to dabble. I think potholders would be a good start. Where to set up? That is the question.

Some catching up for me!
Sunday afternoon and evening I made 2 Wet Bags for my DGD to use in her diaper bag, I had made her one in the beginning but she requested another - so why not make her 2, they can be used even as the kids grow for things like wet swim suites etc.
Also make Tiny Tot a doll dress and panty - stuck the "Back to School" card in the package with all the Box Tops for school in it for her to take in.
Yesterday I pieced, layered and quilted a baby quilt. Just have to finish up on the binding today. My church is collecting "baby shower" items next weekend for Genesis House for homeless pregnant teens. I found a big piece (2 yds, I think) of flannel that I'll make into receiving blankets later as well.
No scrapping for a couple of days!

Cheryl I have heard from trusted sources that Persnickety Prints is good. Haven't personally tried them. I have tried various local places to have those prints I want right away and often the quality isn't there. I've given up on Walgreens. Tired Walmart once and it was beyond awful. I use CVS for those and so far they are perfect, for a year at least, two locations too. I have never had a problem with Snapfish or Shutterfly! Love both of them!

Sounds like you've been busy, Miss Sewing Queen! I would love to hear more about what the "wet bags" are like. Thanks for the feedback on Persnickety. CTMH has a code for 20% off your order with Persnickety, so I wanted to try them. I guess if a big company like CTMH is referring people to them, the quality must be good!

Sharon.....wow you have scrapped a lot and your retreat sounds such fun. There are retreats here but usually just for 2 days. I go to a one day marathon retreat occasionally, and at the last one I watched a fellow scrapper send her photos to her small portable canon printer. She was printing 4x6 and smaller photos. Perfect for scrapping and I have it on my wish list. I usually use our Canon Pixma for one off photos I need in a hurry. Thank you for sharing all your wonderful LOs...awesome.

Sharon (Sewflake).....good to see you online again and would love to see the quilt you made. I can't sew but so like handmade quilts.

Joyce Ann you have also been busy. I'm in awe when I read yours and the other ladies comments as everyone seems to scrap, make cards, sew, maintain blogs or do voluntary work. Some weeks I struggle to create much but do keep busy.

I managed to do one page today for the VSBN challenge...it just needs some journaling and finishing touches and will try and post tomorrow.

Happy day everyone. Love hearing your news and seeing your creations. Hugs jx

This page came together quickly. I had been feeling low, I guess, and as the evening wore on I decided that if I tried to scrap something it would lift my mood. So I picked the next VSBN challenge, picked a page to lift from my favs, headed to the craft room. I told myself - just make it happen, no messing around, no "dilly-dallying". I selected photos to work in the size of elliesmom's photos, knew I wanted girly/floral paper but possibly something with a pattern like hers, and selected them. No going back and forth as to whether these were the best choice or if there was some better - just use them!
I didn't want the look of the rough edges so I simply sponged them, The butterfly was in my bin of unused goodies and the flower I stamped and colored lightly with wc pencils. Everything should be obvious as to what I matched or changed.

Thanks, Sharon, I have "climbed" significantly up. It did help.

This layout has been done for a few days but I've hesitated calling it "done" but decided there isn't anything else I can think of to add. When Debbie Hodge created her class it came at the perfect time for me to write up this story that I did. We learned about breaking traditional rules and still have it work. I would welcome anyone's thoughts about how it works, or doesn't work, if you care to share. You may feel more comfortable relaying those kinds of comments in this forum rather than the normal post.

Joyce Ann - Ali Edwards promotes using our words to tell stories on our layouts in much the same way as your page. Thus her tagline "Craft the Story".

Love your page. You will cherish it. It preserves the details and thoughts that would be less likely to be remembered later.

I'm curious what scrapbook rules did you break in creating that layout? I don't see ANY broken rules. In regards to the "break the rules and make it work", you nailed it - for whatever rules you "broke", it works! Since I don't scrap by traditional rules, I don't know what rules are there to break.

Nice layout and YAY for telling stories with words. Good job!

Thanks bunches Melissa. Yea, it's fun and important when we can, to tell real stories in depth. I do it so rarely.
As for my broke rules I feel the use of a border kinda in the middle is one, the division of the 2 sides is a bit off I think. Tiny Tot looking AWAY from the page is not usually done. And, there is not triangle or points to direct flow of the viewers eye.
I did one of Ali Edwards challenge a few years back. 31 days of words. I never finish actually making the album, do have most of the pages done. All digital, and I wanted to print them as 6x12s and make a physical album to have. Have you enjoyed any of her teaching?
I do encourage all of us to think about expanding our stories when we can.

Yes and no. While I've taken several of her classes, I find I enjoy her blog posts more. Maybe because they are shorter and not so in depth. I suppose that depends on my frame of mind and how much time I have to invest in the class. I do participate in her trademark projects - December Daily, Day in the Life and Week in the Life. One Little Word drove me nuts. It got weird. One assignment was to knead something - dough I think - and repeat your word and think about it. It was a bit much. I had visions of folks standing around moaning their words while kneading playdoh. Um, no.

I began the 31 days of words and have the more days of words class content. The 6 x 12 pages are nice.

I do love her CAS style and her products reflect that. Her projects are not product heavy. I like that - the photos and the stories shine. She has some really good ideas with her projects.

I want to tell more stories, so I am, little by little following along and telling more (and longer) stories. I find if I journal at the end of the day (I don't journal every day!) I have some good stories to go with my photos. They have more detail (and sometime the story of the day is totally different from the photos) than I would remember from just looking at that day's photos a week later.

I know the "looking off the page" rule, but sometimes it's a good thing. Prompts the reader / viewer to turn the page! The off center doesn't bother me - hair parts are off center! Borders in the middle are great separators and containers - it contains your story. Also, pocket pages have "borders" around each pocket. I feel like the visual triangle is more of a design element than a scrapbooking rule.

All interesting. I'm sure this project pushed you out of your comfort zone a little. And that's great. It's how we grow.

Lynn, no mojo is just what Lela addressed with the VSBN! Sometimes when I wait for the inspiration to grab me, it doesn't happen at all. But, I gotta say that just picking something, like a scraplift or a sketch, some photos and make myself pick and stick with some paper it is freeing. So many other aspects of life grab hold of us and we need to reward our selves with a little scrappy time now and then.

Melissa, you are on to something with your daily journaling - just write stuff down. Its a good habit and provides material just in case for your scrapping. As for it not fitting the photo, mine had nothing to do with my story either, but it made me happy to just put a photo in there. I think I'm going to take my granddaughter's text messages more seriously and actually copy them into a word doc so there will be more "stories" for me to scrap maybe. I appreciate you pointing out how the weirdness of the page shows potential anyway. Thanks again for your discussion, it really helps me think more about what is okay in scrapping.

Joyce Ann I also am glad to read that you are feeling brighter. Creativity is great for lifting spirits.

I agree with Melissa's comments about broken rules. I only did a brief scrapbook course and learnt about 1/3rds and having embellishments in uneven numbers. When I put my pages together now I rarely think about all of that, although the uneven embellishments sometimes comes into play. I now just do what makes me happy and if I think it looks ok.

We are all creating something special and with "art" I don't believe there are rules. I love your LO and I never noticed your GGD facing the wrong way. I was wrapped up in the journalling and saw such a special LO. It's wonderful and very special.

TFS. Hugs from Australia jxo

Here's my LO for the VSBN Challenge #1.

Then&Now by Ozpom - Cards and Paper Crafts at Splitcoaststampers

This was the last page for our son's album/s...whoop, whoop. All I have to do now is get out all of the pages, complete journalling where I've got dates to add (this one too needs dates on the left hand side tag) and they are finally done. It's only taken me 7.5 years

Now the fun begins....I have to sort through photos of what to scrap next....mmmm. At least you will see something different than our son's face LOL.

Grandies or holidays....any suggestions, or maybe I just alternate between the 2.

YTD: 57
6/12 for August

Talking Almost Friday!

YES! While I'm only home for (1) night ... it still feels good! Had a great trip to Milwaukee for work, now off to Cincinnati to move my youngest again and help him work on the restaurant. It's such an exciting time in his life

I'm still scrappin'/stampin' every day for a 100 Day challenge I joined ... I have 29 pages and 22 cards done just in August! Let's hope the SCS gallery and I can collaborate this weekend and I can get some in the my gallery as the VSBN was super helpful to me for getting my MOJO goin'

So good to see all the FUN Pages! I've been adding to my Faves like crazy

Thumbs up Small Printers

Sharon .... YES! It' s on my Christmas List. I'm going to a Scrap Retreat in October and the Girls are going to bring Polaroid Zip, Canon Selphy, HP Sprocket and the new one Prynt Pocket so we can compare ....

I have to admit, with all the reviews I looked at, I'm leaning toward the HP Sprocket

As you know, I scrap a lot on the road so this is going to be super fun

Wow Lela you have also been creating a lot. I've just been in my craft room playing with my GD....she was trying out a stencil, gesso and lots of glitter. We are covered in it...lol. She's sleeping now so I can have a little bit of me time before its time to do the school run

I'm interested in also hearing of your reviews in the portable printers for scrapbooking.

Happy weekend everyone. Take care jx
