Default QOTD {8-13-12} Let's Talk Dies

Do you use dies, do you love them? I find that I rarely make a card without using dies (or embossing folders). And I love all of the new dies that are hitting the market...so much variety! Do you love the dies that coordinate with a stamp set? Ohhh...I do!! I really like when it's a die that coordinates with stamps that are acrylic 'cause you can see exactly where you need to stamp!! Tell me what you think...

Dies are - as they say here in the U.K. (I can never remember whether they say it in the U.S. too since I've lived here for 27 years!) - the best thing invented since sliced bread! I love the fact that they last a lifetime (I've ruined one or two punches), they store so flat, they weigh so little and cost little to mail, and they can cut any where on a page.

Singing their priases!!!!

Make a stamp to coordinate with the die and you have a double sale, guaranteed, with me. I love how you can cut through just about any type of material. My newest fascination (after taking a class with Clear Scraps at CKC) is cutting acrylic with my dies and then using alcohol inks on the acrylic. It opened a whole new world of possibilities for decorative stamping. And layering dies together (both before and after cutting).... well the possibilities are endless.

I agree, I rarely make a card without using a die. So far, I only have two stamp set with matching dies and I really like them. Great question!

I LOVE dies but find that some brands work better than others. Memory Box are my favorite and I like Marianne designs too. I like Spellbiders but I find that the more intricate the Spellbinder die is, the more it rips when you remove the cardstock from the die. The new Sizzix sizzlets are wonderful because you can place the die cut edge down so you know exactly where your image will show. SU has some nice new stamps/sizzlets sets with matching templates for piercing around the dies. I can't wait to try those.

LOVE using my dies and almost every card has a die on it. I especially like the nesting dies and the ones that match stamp sets! And my new ART box storage system makes it super easy to find the ones I need.

I love using die cuts. However I don't usually buy the dies to match stamps. For me it is out of my budget to get both. I do like using my digital cutter and like when companies offer cut files to go with their stamps. Much more reasonable price. And I can also make my own cut files with a scanner and the cutter software for those companies that don't offer cut files. I do own some of the basic spellbinders dies and tend to use them often to cut a quick circle or oval without having to leave my stamping desk.

LOVE dies in general but especially coordinating dies! They really add so much to a card.
