Question QOTD {7/5/12} Cheerleaders

In honor of today's Sweet Peek, Cheerleader Cookie, how about a fun question for today....

Were you a cheerleader when you were in school? Did you want to be? Discuss !

I was not. Drama club/the school play was my favorite activity and rehearsals conflicted, so there is no way I could have done both.

When I was in elementary school, I wanted to be a cheerleader when I got older....but when I got older...I didn't have the courage to try out. I had a lot of cheerleader friends, though and I did attend a lot of games where I cheered from the stands .

I tried it in 7th grade and didn't like it. I realized that I preferred doing the sports themselves than cheering for the ones doing it. I also spent a lot of time playing piano when I was in school. And once I got into high school my interests were the cross country team and the school newspaper.

I was too shy to be a cheerleader anyway.

I have very little natural talent for athletics so I never had an urge to try cheerleading (although after the 1976 Olympics, I dreamed of being the next Dorothy Hamill or Nadia Comeneci! LOL). At my high school, the majority of the cheerleaders were the well-to-do, very clique-y types and I would never have fit in with them.

Ever since my older son started participating in our high school's marching band, I've gone to every home football game, and I cheer the team from the bleachers. (Sometimes it seems like I'm the only band mom who shows much interest in the game.)
