Default QOTD {05/11/12} - Ribbon scraps?

Happy Friday!!!

I have a question for you today that has been plaguing me for some time.

Do you save ribbon scraps? If so, how big/small is your cutoff range? What do you do with those scraps?

I confess that I keep a jar of ribbon scraps that are probably too small to really do anything with and they are not organized in any way. They are all shoved into the jar. They LOOK pretty, though! LOL

I have canning jars assorted by color families that hold pieces longer than 2 inches but too short to hang on my Clip It Up ribbon holder. Then I have two tiny jars that sit on my desk that hold all pieces smaller than 3 inches - I save those for threading buttons or making loops behind tiny flowers, or ribbon tabs.

So those little jars are not organized at all -- but I have used pieces from there many times! They have to be at least an inch long! And at an inch, you can really only make a tab or thread a two-hold button (I am thinking of twine mostly).

I love pretty colors though, so even if your jar isn't being used it is PRETTY!!

Yep, I save 'em. If they can be store with the main roll they came from I put them there, but if it is the end of a roll (sniff sniff) or if it is really short I have a ziploc baggies of 'ribbon remnants' that I always look through first before cutting. (Not fancy, I know, but it is not expensive and gets the job done!)

Gosh, I was just thinking what a ribbon junkie I am this week, what with a basket overflowing with ribbon pieces that I paw through every time I'm looking for "that little bit of twill"....." or "the tail end of the gingham..." or "that reject organza bow"!!

Great ideas here! I love the idea of sorting by color family and then down by size in different locations....hmmm, gonna have to give this some thought.

I save snippets intending to use them like Judy does, but I rarely remember to pull that drawer (one of the clear plastic ones) open to see what's in it when I'm working on a project... I think I'm going to devote my next "crafty session" to using ONLY scraps - of dp, ribbon, cardstock, already-colored images, etc. - and see what comes of it. I'm betting it'll be FUN!!!

I've got mine in a tin. It's mostly odds and ends all tossed into one jumble. That jumble of ribbons can be pretty fun to go through though, so I'm okay with that. My only problem is that I hardly ever reach for the tin. It's not see through and I guess it's that "out of sight - out of mind" thing.

A piece of ribbon has to be about 4" or longer for me to save it. Right now, I have only a few scraps and they are in a sandwich bag hooked to an o-ring on my Ribbon Ring. Not pretty, but it works.

I've found that, for me, ribbon much shorter than 4" is too short to use on a card and too hard for me to tie onto a mini album ring.

There is no method to my madness when it comes to organizing ribbon. I have it stored so many different ways!

1) I have my Papertrey Ink ribbons on their spools on the dowels on my Making Memories embellishment center.
2) I have a drawer with seam binding and twine in it.
3) I have gallon-size penny candy jars full of ribbons. I take the ribbons and wind them around a clothespin and secure with a straight pin. They look so pretty in the jars! As for ribbon scraps. I keep them on the clothespins, and I also have a small jar full of random ribbon scraps.
