Question QOTD {02/14/12}: Your First Purchase

Do you remember the very first stamp set you bought? Or maybe what company it was from? Do you still have it?

Yes, I remember the first 2 stamps that I bought. One was a long stemmed rose and the other was a unicorn. Yes, I still have them. I think they were from Ink-a-dink-a-do.

You are asking me to think WAY back - a decade plus! I remember going to a friend's house so she could teach me. We did a lot of dry embossing - the old-fashioned way with a metal template, light box and stylus! I do know she gave me the name of her Stampin' Up rep so I have to believe my first stamp was from Stampin' Up. Having said that, I also distinctly remember that I was only going to get stamps that I could use on scrapbook pages...that resolution didn't last long as I haven't touched a scrapbook in five years!

The first stamps I bought were the Stampin' Up set "Just a Note Mini" right before it retired in June 2002, along with the Stars wheel and Thank You wheel. I still have them even though I rarely use them.

My first purchase was a kit from Michael's. It was pretty cheap - mounted on foam, cheap ink, etc. But gee, what do you expect for $20 when it came with 3 ink pads and 10 stamps. LOL!!! Nope - don't have it anymore. Not even sure what ever happened to it.

My first stamp purchase was in 2003 at a friend's SU party. I bought three sets that night Wild Things, Itty Bitty Bolds, and a Greeting for All Reasons. I still have Wild Things (in fact I loaded something into my gallery made with it just last weekend) and Itty Bitty Bolds, but the other one I sold some time back. I also bought six ink pads that night.

I was only a scrapbooker then, but I bought the Greeting for all Reasons so I could start making cards. I make a lot of cards now, but I still do find the time to scrapbook once in a while too.

It was 1996 or 1997. The set was either "Harvest of Friendship" or "Decorator Shelf" from the Stampin' Up line. I still have them both, and the catalog.

I bought a couple more sets from that catalog and then I gave up stamping. I picked it back up around 2007, after I started scrapbooking. But I didn't use them for making cards again until last year.

Sometimes the old is new again.
